Chapter 77: Coven of Witches
Beatrice entered Carter’s office. She had gray hair. She smelled of jasmine, mild incense, and a soft sense of natural aroma. Carter couldn’t help but be entrance because of her smell.
Because of her smell, he also knew that she wasn’t human. Because his only Elite ability, Will of Steel, just pushed back the influence of her smell.
’A witch?’
"Miss Cavendish. I heard you’re looking for me. May I ask why?" Carter feigned ignorant. He smiled and asked.
"I think you know exactly why." Beatrice walked alongside his shelf and ran her fingers on the books and vials. "And please, call me Trix. Miss Cavendish feels so unfamiliar."
"We are unfamiliar to each other after all." Carter kept his idiotic smile.
"Oh?" Trix squinted her eyes briefly. "We actually met before you know."
"Where? I can’t possibly remember meeting a beauty like you."
"Pretend all you want, Victor. You can’t hide your true self behind that slick tongue." Trix said.
"I think you might mistaking me for someone else."
"Really? Aren’t you the one that saved that drunkard in the inn? Your potion saved him."
Carter rubbed his chin, pretending to recall his memory.
"Oh? That inn on the way to Luandon. I did save someone with Black Blood there. Luckily he was still in the early states so I was able to cure him. And no, it wasn’t a ’Potion’." Carter made an air quote. "It was just simple medicine."
"No amount of medicine can cure Black Blood, Dr. Frankenstein. There can only potion. Witch Potion to be precise."
’Heh. Revealing yourself already? What are you planning?’
Suddenly, Trix’s shadow rose up. It formed a shadow knife in its hand and thrust at Carter.
The knife stopped centimeters away from Carter’s eyes. His own shadow reached its hand up from below and had caught Trix’s shadow.
"Shadow Manipulation..." Trix chuckled. "You aren’t just a rare male Witch. You’re a powerful one as well."
Trix waved her hand. Her shadow disappeared and returned to her. Carter’s shadow did the same.
"I am no Witch, Miss Cavendish." Carter grunted his voice.
"Sure, sure. None of us are witches. We’re just human. You’re at least smart enough to understand that."
"Understand what?"
"Please. We already show our cards on the table. Pretending isn’t fun anymore. I, obviously, am saying about keeping our identity a secret. Witches are very hard to be born. We have maybe one or two successful births in the last decades. Most witches knew each other. You are one of the rare cases that were able to hide from the Coven."
’The Coven? So Witches have their own organization as well. Maybe there is a way for me to infiltrate. But I must keep the character align with its personality. Can’t be too obvious now.’
Carter sighed. "I already told you. I am no witch. I have certain power yet. But they weren’t natural. I gain it from selling my soul."
For the first time, Beatrice seemed surprise.
"What do you mean?"
"Do you know about the Princes of Darkness?" Carter said.
Beatrice shook her head.
"Let’s just say they are a group of very powerful beings. I don’t know if they’re demons or gods or whatever. I only know that they are incredibly powerful.
I have met two of them. Prince of Blood. A vampire that could easily wipe an entire city of humans if he wants to. We barely escape him."
"From your tone, I guest he isn’t the one that buy your soul?" Trix said.
Carter shook his head, "No. The second prince is the Prince of Soul. He helped us escape from Dracula. He promised me knowledge and power. Power to escape the Prince of Blood and knowledge to further my medical research. I have no other choice.
I sold my soul to save myself. In return, I have him."
The shadow rose up from the ground and stood next to Carter.
"It’s the only thing I can do. So no, I am not a witch. I am just a soulless man."
Why did Carter say so much? He was fishing. By introducing something the witches didn’t know. They would want to interact with him more. More interactions would allow Carter to have more Cursed Blood for his research.
Everything he said was made up anyway so he lost nothing at all.
Trix breathed in deeply. She took out a charcoal and drew a pentagram on her palm. She then pointed it at Carter.
"I don’t believe this. You must have a soul. No being can live without one."

Beatrice widened her eyes again. "You really have no soul. Unbelievable. This means that... There are Princes of Darkness."
Carter pretended like he didn’t panic just now. His cover was almost blown. The actor was thinking of killing Beatrice right here to save his identity.
But it was unnecessary. The Infinite Skin System already solved the problem.
He shrugged nonchalantly, "I told you so."
"The Coven would like to meet you. They need to know about these dangerous entities. Who knows what they would do." Beatrice said.
"I can’t go with you, Miss Cavendish. I need to go somewhere. Someone is waiting for me."
He was, of course, bullshitting again.
"A woman?"
Carter only smiled.
Beatrice shook her head. "Is she really worth it?"
"She is worth every second."
"Fine. I will go to the Coven first. When you will be back?"
"I don’t know. I can find you when I get back."
"Don’t bother. I will come to you."
Beatrice went as quickly as she came, leaving Carter with his thoughts.
’The Coven, huh? I will check it the next time I return to Corrupted Corps. Now, I need to prepare the meeting in the City of Ghosts.’
Thomas and Eleanor would invite their friends over. Influential and powerful friends. Carter intended to turn all of them into First Generation Vampire and filled the seats of the First Generation club.
’I heard there is also the Mayor of Luandon. If I have him, this city is mine.’
Carter finished his shift at the Enthrall Institute and went home. He didn’t expect that a brief exchange from before had invited some trouble over his way.
