Chapter 49- The Rise (Part 7)

Chapter 49- The Rise (Part 7)

"You’re not who you think you are, Virgo. You’re just a pathetic man, drowning in his own foolishness, thinking he is the center of the world." Rein said as he pushed Virgo back, slamming him against the container as he aimed his sword at his neck. "You are nothing short of a miserable freak. One so unfortunate to come across me."

Virgo clenched his teeth as he felt a cold sweat run down his spine. He tried to move out of the way, to resist, or do anything to stop the inevitable.

However, Rein immediately stopped him, as he grabbed him by the neck and lifted him up. "Curse your luck for being the pathetic man you are."

"Y-You... won’t...dare!!"

Seeing him struggle and throw his hands around, Rein shook his head with a disappointed look before he stabbed with his sword. The blade clinged as it hit the invisible barrier. However, Rein had already predicted that would happen.

He slashed again, and again, and again. Each hit was stronger than the other until...

*CRACK*

The barrier snapped under the immense and relentless damage. ’It isn’t that strong after all.’ Rein thought to himself as he stabbed again... Aiming for a deadly blow.

However, at that moment, out of nowhere, a large chunk of rock fell down on him. Rein felt the threat coming toward him as he looked up quickly before he clenched his teeth and threw Virgo to the side.

Then, with insane movement speed, he dashed to the side, barely dodging the falling rock as it exploded into countless pieces.

"Cough! Cough! Cough!!" Virgo coughed violently as he looked up with teary eyes. His gun was close by, and the ceiling was collapsing as they were speaking. So, he clenched his teeth and stood up as he ran to the gun.

Rein, on the other hand, took a detour as the rubble and destruction were piling up everywhere. Through the dust, he could see Virgo running to the stairs.

’No. You won’t.’ His eyes grew colder as he rushed after him. The two ran through the stairs, going up the floors.

The entire building around them was submerged in chaos. Rocks, rubble, metal rails, and all kinds of things fell into their hands. Rein used his reaction speed to dodge and cut his way through, closing the distance between them.

*BANG*

Virgo tried to shoot him down as he ran up ahead.

"You won’t get anything, Rein Silversoul! You’re never seeing the light of day again! You hear me?!" He yelled as he emptied the bullets on Rein. The latter moved nimbly, jumping on the handrails and sliding smoothly as he dodged every bullet, with some grazing skin and leaving small bloody marks.

His eyes were intently focused on Virgo as if he were a hunter and Virgo was the prey. The man certainly felt that dynamic, and he knew that the moment Rein got his hands on him, he was completely dead.

However, where could he even go? The building was crumbling before his eyes. The only way these stairs led to was... The rooftop.

And as he expected, soon after, the doors to the rooftop appeared before his eyes. Clenching his teeth, Virgo kicked them open with his foot as he ran out. Almost immediately, he stopped as his foot barely dodged a large hole that led all the way down to the bottom floor.

The entire rooftop was crumbling quickly, with barely any spots to stand.

"Fuck! Fuck! Fuck!!" He cursed as he started jumping from one place to another. At the same time, Rein reached the rooftop as he looked at Virgo.

’I need to escape! I need to escape somehow! He can’t get me!!’ The fear appeared in Virgo’s eyes as he paled visibly. Reaching the edge of the rooftop, he looked down at the fall. It was long and dangerous... He couldn’t really survive it, and even if he did, he would be heavily injured.

The torrent of rain and the storm above his head raged wildly. His face, covered in water, as his hair rustled left and right

"We are stuck here now," Rein said as he stopped a few meters away from Virgo. "Are you going to put on a fight or what? You’ve been yelling in my ear this entire time. Come on, man up and do what you said."

Virgo turned around and looked at Rein, his eyes angry and hateful. "You can pretend like you’re in control. The truth is, my bullet had hurt you greatly... You have been bleeding non-stop, and you’ve been getting slower. You must be in great pain."

Rein didn’t reply as he stared coldly at him.

"Why wouldn’t you see what I’m seeing, Rein? Why would you go so far as to kill an ambitious man because of his dreams? Have you lost your soul that much?"

"..."

"We are all indeed rotten. But some of us deserve death more than others. Why didn’t you kill those bastards from the agency, even though countless innocent lives perished at their hands, huh? Why didn’t you bat an eye at that, Rein?"

"..."

"The truth is, your hands are covered in blood as much as mine, and as much as those people in suits and glasses. You think by killing me, you’re ridding the world of a bad person? Why not do that to yourself, too, huh?"

Rein looked at Virgo silently for a second, Rein dripping down his face.

"I know," Rein replied after a moment. "We are no better than each other."

"Then why-"

"But, I won’t kill myself. Simply because nobody can kill me. Who told you that I care about morals? Or innocent lives? Or anyone for that matter?" Rein asked. His eyes shifted to something Virgo had never seen before. A look that sent terror into his mind. He couldn’t even describe it, and he certainly couldn’t understand it.

It wasn’t human. It didn’t feel human. It didn’t even feel merciless or terrifying... It just felt empty.

"If you want a rotten man like me dead, then you will have to do it yourself," Rein said as he looked down. "Until then, I will live. This world is no longer ruled by men, and nobody can deliver the punishment except for those who are strong enough."

Slowly, two arrows started forming around Rein.

"..." Virgo blinked before he gripped his gun tightly and aimed it at Rein. "Then so be it."

Suddenly, his gun was illuminated with a bright energy... It was Life Essence. The barrel of the gun absorbed that energy instantly like a hungry beast, before it blasted a single bullet at full force.

It was extremely fast and filled with so much energy that it almost distorted the space around it. Rein’s eyes flashed with a sharp glint as he moved with his sword, slashing at the bullet. The moment his sword made contact with it, it exploded violently, sending a shockwave everywhere.

"Agh!" Rein groaned as he fell back several feet away, rolling on the ground until he stopped near the edge of the fall.

Quickly, he stood up as Virgo aimed his gun again and shot. The bullet hit the ground... Right where the crack was, causing it to spread even faster. A large chunk of the rooftop collapsed instantly.

But the rain of bullets didn’t stop as Virgo kept shooting... That was when Rein noticed it.

’He is shooting at the cracks, trying to make the building collapse faster!’
