Chapter 1227 - 1226: The Twin Peak Beast’s Food
Just as he was feeling a bit awkward about apologizing to the old Shaman, his attention was caught by something under the beast skin.
He squatted down excitedly and pulled out a handful of hay from beneath the old Shaman’s beast skin mat. "Shaman, does your tribe have more of this hay?"
The old Shaman raised an eyebrow as he looked at the item in the young Orc’s hand, then glanced at him. "Are you saying this can be used as food for the twin-humped beast?"
The young Orc nodded vigorously with excitement. "Yes! This type of hay is one of the foods that the twin-humped beasts really enjoy.
If we feed them some of this, they won’t keep making noises."
Since he’d put it this way, there was no reason for the old Shaman to refuse, especially since this concerned the safety of the tribe members’ lives.
One of the Orcs nearby came over to lift the old Shaman’s beast skin mat, while the young Orc crouched down and gathered the hay scattered on the ground.
Perhaps for warmth, there was indeed quite a bit of hay beneath the old Shaman’s beast skin mat.
However, it would hardly be enough to feed all the twin-humped beasts. The young Orc’s dark eyes looked toward the old Shaman, silently pleading for help.
The old Shaman twitched the corner of his mouth. "This is all there is. This hay was brought over last time by Shaman Ji Nuan. Since it was a hassle to take it back, I ended up using it.
Our tribe doesn’t have the habit of laying hay as mats."
After all, nobody had known that putting hay underneath the beast skin mat could be this warm.
By next year, using this type of hay for bedding would probably become commonplace.
"Shaman Ji Nuan? The one Chief Hasa mentioned, the traveling Shaman staying at your tribe?"
The old Shaman nodded. "Yes, using hay for warmth must be a common practice where Ji Nuan is from. Shaman Ji Nuan probably has a lot of hay."
The young Orc’s expression turned a bit uneasy. Did he really have to ask that Shaman for hay? Just thinking about it made his legs tremble.
The cave suddenly fell silent, and the twin-humped beasts’ cries became increasingly loud.
The old Shaman let out a sigh. "Orcs, get up and come outside with me. Bring your weapons along."
The Orcs in the cave responded in unison, grabbing their weapons and standing up.
"Let’s go. We’re heading to Shaman Ji Nuan’s place to see if we can borrow some hay. But afterward, you’ll need to repay Shaman Ji Nuan with equivalent goods, understand?"
The young Orc was overjoyed upon hearing this and nodded excitedly. "Don’t worry. Tomorrow, the tribesmen and I will go hunting and look for food for the twin-humped beasts. This kind of situation won’t happen again!"
The old Shaman nodded and, surrounded by the Orcs’ protection, headed out of the cave.
The young Orc quickly grabbed the hay at his feet and followed. Even the tiniest amount counts; no food can be wasted.
At this moment, the old Shaman turned back to look at the young Orc clutching the hay. "Leave that hay here for this old bag of bones as padding. The cold season is quite harsh."
The young Orc’s handsome face turned red at those words, though it couldn’t be seen in the dark cave given his dark skin.
He chuckled awkwardly, quickly returning the hay to the old Shaman’s usual resting spot.
The old Shaman looked at one of the Orcs staying behind. "Make sure to spread out my beast skin mat properly later."
The Orc nodded affirmatively.
