Leisurely Farm Life in Beast World

Chapter 1207 - 1206: The Matter of Hunting

Ji Nuan chuckled sheepishly, "Nothing much. Let’s go quickly. Staying in the cave for these past few days has almost suffocated me."

The Orc fixed his deep gaze on her, staring until her smile stiffened. Only then did he chuckle softly and carry her toward the lake.

The closer they got to the lake, the more Orcs they encountered, yet there wasn’t a single female or juvenile to be seen.

Without sufficient beast skin for warmth, only the Orcs who had tasks outside could emerge. The weaker females and juveniles had no choice but to obediently stay in the cave.

The Orcs were busy at the lakefront. Watching them carry blocks of ice away, Ji Nuan realized this was the Sahara Tribe’s method of storing water.

They transported the ice blocks from the lake to areas outside the caves. Due to the cold weather, the ice wouldn’t melt, and if the tribesfolk needed drinking water, they’d knock off a few pieces to nibble on for hydration.

Ji Nuan felt her teeth chatter uncontrollably—her tolerance level was simply far too low.

"Shaman Ji Nuan?" An uncertain voice rang out from behind her.

Ji Nuan struggled to crane her neck from Xiu Yan’s arms to glance backward, "Old Shaman, Harry, Hasa, why did you all come out too?"

The group of Orcs eyed Ji Nuan, who was bundled up like a ball, with envy. Clicking their tongues, they remarked inwardly that Shaman Ji Nuan truly had it good—probably the most comfortable during this cold season.

"We came out to check the thickness of the snow and discuss hunting plans," Hasa answered with a smile.

He was draped in a piece of beast skin, but judging by the look of it, its insulation wasn’t particularly effective; his lips were visibly pale from the cold.

The Old Shaman looked even more pitiful. His rounded figure indicated he was wrapped in so many layers of beast skin that it was hard to count.

After spending only a short while in the snowy outdoors, the warmth remaining on the Old Orc’s aged body seemed to have been completely stripped away.

Ji Nuan followed them into the Old Shaman’s cave. The Orcs residing inside immediately moved their belongings to the edge of the cave.

The cleared area was promptly covered with beast skin mats by some diligent Orcs.

The group sat down separately on the nearest beast skin mats.

"Chief Hasa, when do you plan to set out for the hunt?" Ji Nuan snuggled snugly into Xiu Yan’s fiery embrace, unwilling to emerge.

Hasa’s smile faded, and he sighed with a furrowed brow, "We must act quickly before the snowfall gets too thick. I’ve asked the tribesmen to prepare—we’re leaving today."

"Today?" Ji Nuan exclaimed in surprise, "Isn’t that a bit too rushed?"

Hasa shook his head, "Shaman Ji Nuan, you may not understand, but there’s a very dangerous trap in the desert called flowing sand.

When the desert Orcs go out hunting, they’re typically able to easily identify the hazards of flowing sand traps.

But if it snows, these flowing sand pits become the most significant threat during our hunts. Once the snow covers the desert, we won’t be able to accurately distinguish them, putting the Orcs in danger."

Ji Nuan froze, not expecting such circumstances.

"Is there no way to save someone who falls into flowing sand? If it’s a group operation, couldn’t the others pull them out?"

Hasa shook his head, "It’s not always possible. Sometimes the range of flowing sand is small, and the others can pull the trapped Orcs out. But many flowing sand zones are vast—Orcs can’t grab onto a trapped comrade even when they shift into their beast form."
