Chapter 56: Forgotten City [6]
The waves of void energy completely disappeared along with the seven foot monster.
This immediately caught the attention of every creature in this place, both humans and monsters.
They couldn’t believe their eyes, although they had seen it, yet they refused to accept it.
But there was one person who already expected this outcome. They had already known that Aegon was going to be victorious.
"He did it again..." Chrome uttered with a smile on his face.
Hearing him say this, the other two Awakeners who were in the same cage as him looked at him.
They were surprised that Chrome wasn’t surprised by what had just happened, that he says ’that’ like it’s something he sees everyday.
But they had been in the cage for a while now, so how could he possibly see such things?
This prompted one of them to ask him.
"Do you know that dude?"
His voice was hoarse showing they had stayed here for a long time without making a conversation.
But Chrome didn’t answer him. He simply looked at the Awakeners who asked the question, then at the other, and ignored them both.
Then he placed his hands on the rod of the cage and called out.
"Aegon!!"
At this point, Aegon was still holding the dagger in his hands. It was glowing with purple and black energy, which was the only remaining color around him.
Hearing his name being called, he turned his neck to the direction and gazed at the person who was in a cage and waving their hand outside it.
"Oh... that’s true. I was here to save him."
He said this as if he had forgotten the reason he was here and only remembered, after seeing Chrome’s face.
With his current appearance, he looked like a completely different person. The aura around him and the way his eyes glowed made him look otherworldly.
He turned and began to walk towards Chrome’s direction, and Chrome was excited as he saw him coming.
However, while Chrome was excited, the other Awakeners felt something strange coming from Aegon.
They didn’t know what he was, who he was, and for that, didn’t want to have anything to do with him, so they leaned inside their cages in fear.
But, the ones who feared him the most were the remaining guard monsters. Their squad captain had just been erased from existence.
No blood, nor any part of his body was remaining, nothing. So who was going to give them orders now?
How are they going to report this to the commander?
They wanted to go and fight, wanted to avenge their captain, but what was the point? They knew it was sudden death and as monsters it they were holding back?
The monsters were one thing, but the Awakeners? That was something else entirely.
Chrome noticed their sudden hesitation and thought inwardly to himself.
’It looks like they are terrified of Aegon’s power, but can you blame them? Even I myself haven’t fully gotten used to it.’
’If I hadn’t seen him do such things before I wouldn’t also be able to keep up. But, does it look like he has grown a lot since we last saw each other?’
’That monster was at least B-rank and he fought it and killed it with ease. No, he didn’t just kill it...’ Chrome’s expression straightened for a moment.
’He erased it? From existence? Yes, that’s the right way. He didn’t just kill it but made it like it had never been born. That’s truly terrifying.’
Chrome also looked at the monsters, and they, too, were terrified. Afraid of making any sudden move.
"It looks like getting out of here would be easier than I thought..." he uttered.
Aegon, as he was walking saw the Awakeners and their attitude towards him, in his mind he thought.
’I can understand the monsters being scared because their leader was killed and they wouldn’t want to suffer the same fate.’
’But these Awakeners. Why do they all look as if they had seen a ghost? I have come to rescue them but they don’t look like they want to be saved.’
"Were they toyed with?"
As the word left his lips, he landed in front of Chrome’s cage, and their eyes met each other.
Chrome had a pleasing expression that said ’please release me’, while Aegon’s gaze was cold like ice. He looked at the lock which was used to lock the cage and noticed it needed a key to open.
"Key... key... you need to get the key to open it." Chrome whispered.
But Aegon paid no attention to him. He simply raised the dagger and struck it with a great force and the lock broke into two.
After he had done this, he heard a sound and turned his neck, Chrome’s gaze likewise following.
And they saw a couple of monsters about to make a move. But Aegon increased the aura he was emitting, and with his cold gaze they all ran away into the walls.
At this point there were no more monsters around only the humans. Chrome stepped out of the cage holding his wrist, as he said.
"Thanks. But is it wise to let them go? They would only go and report and bring in reinforcement."
He looked at Aegon as he said this, and Aegon turned to him also, saying.
"It doesn’t matter, we are going to meet them anyway."
Hearing this, Chrome was startled.
"Meet them? Shouldn’t we find a way out of here?"
Aegon removed his gaze and stared at the two Awakeners inside the cage Chrome had come out from and asked.
"Do you know how you got here?"
Chrome didn’t know if he was asking him, or asking the two Awakeners inside the cage, because that was where Aegon was facing.
But since the two Awakeners said nothing, he decided to talk.
"I didn’t see the road because we were covered on our way here, but I can tell you how they captured us."
It was a story that Aegon was supposed to want to hear, but how they got captured wasn’t his priority now.
"It seems you don’t know how you came here." He turned to Chrome. "Just for context, we are in a lost forgotten city in the Abyss surrounded by monsters, so there is no way of escaping."
"Now I’d ask, do you have any information you must have gotten during your stay here?"
Chrome was startled at the sudden place he heard they were in. Of course, he had seen the monsters in guard clothes but he wouldn’t have guessed he was in a forgotten city surrounded by monsters.
Only the thought of the number sent chills down his spine, and he remembered his own comrades.
Chrome didn’t immediately answer Aegon’s questions, but asked instead.
"You have the return stone, right? Let’s use it and get out of here."
