Chapter 64: She likes fish now
"Okay, okay, let go!" Feng Yiren snapped, because Mu Qingyi was truly pulling his hair as if he wanted to rip his whole fox dignity straight off his head.
Lin Huahua, who had only just been freed, stumbled back and stared at them with wide eyes. She had never expected the sweet gentle deer beastman to get this angry, and that alone was enough to tell her how serious he was.
Mu Qingyi looked ready to beat Feng Yiren right there.
The sight was so shocking that even Feng Yiren’s tail had stopped moving from pain and alarm.
And he was so scared because although Mu Qingyi was a buck beastman, he was also a three striped beastman while Feng Yiren was just two!
The difference was far too great!
Lin Huahua immediately felt that this was very bad.
Very, very bad.
If these two actually started fighting, then this cave might not survive the morning.
So she rushed forward at once and grabbed Mu Qingyi’s arm with both hands, her voice soft and pleading. "Please let go of him."
That one sentence worked better than anything else.
The moment Mu Qingyi heard her begging him so sweetly, his whole body stiffened, and the terrifying anger in his eyes wavered.
Lin Huahua looked up at him with those wide brown eyes of hers and repeated, "Please. Let go."
Mu Qingyi’s jaw tightened, but in the end he listened.
He released Feng Yiren.
Well.
Released was one word for it.
Another word was threw.
Because the next second, Mu Qingyi flung him away with enough force that Feng Yiren actually crashed into the stone wall across the cave, and some loose bits of stone shook free and fell with little dry sounds.
Feng Yiren groaned. "Ow."
Lin Huahua’s eyes nearly popped out of her face.
This deer beastman was actually terrifying when angry.
Feng Yiren pushed himself up from where he had hit the wall and glared at them. His fox ears were crooked, his red hair was messy, and his pride had clearly been injured almost as badly as his scalp.
"I swear this is not our female," he said stubbornly.
Mu Qingyi looked at him with such cold warning that even the air seemed to tighten. "If you say that one more time, I am casting you out of this cave."
Feng Yiren immediately shut his mouth.
Mostly because he could tell Mu Qingyi was not joking at all.
Lin Huahua looked from one male to the other and then decided she had already had enough nonsense for one morning.
So without saying anything else, she turned and marched toward the cave entrance, her face still red, her ears twitching with anger, and her little white tail flicking so sharply behind her that it looked as if it too wanted to curse somebody.
Mu Qingyi saw her leave and instantly hurried after her.
By the time he caught up, Lin Huahua had reached the entrance and was standing there in the morning light looking like a tiny furious spirit. Her pale cheeks were flushed from anger and from what had just happened, her breathing was a little fast, and because she was so small compared to him, the sight of her standing there all red and upset made Mu Qingyi’s heart ache.
He lowered himself slightly, his voice returning to its usual sweetness at once. "Are you okay? Did he hurt you? Let me see."
Even while asking, he was already checking her properly with his eyes. He looked at her wrists, her arms, her shoulders, her face, and when he saw how red her cheeks were, his expression softened further because he thought she had been frightened badly.
Lin Huahua met his eyes and, against her will, nearly smiled.
This deer beastman was too sweet and caring.
She quickly shook her head. "I am fine."
Mu Qingyi still looked unconvinced, but when she repeated that she was really fine, he finally relaxed a little.
Then he asked again, in a gentler tone this time, "You still want to eat fish?"
Lin Huahua nodded at once.
Very firmly too.
Mu Qingyi hesitated. "But you never liked fish before."
It was only then that Lin Huahua realized why Feng Yiren had reacted the way he did. He had not only been acting crazy for no reason. He had noticed all the little differences, and the fish had only pushed him over the edge.
Still, she did not let that show.
She simply lifted her chin and said with full confidence, "From today I like fish."
That was all.
What could anyone do with such a statement?
Mu Qingyi stared at her for one second and then, to Lin Huahua’s relief, he smiled. It was the kind of smile that said he had decided to accept whatever explanation his female gave him, no matter how strange it sounded.
"Alright," he said. "Then I will hunt fish for you."
Lin Huahua’s mood immediately improved, and she smiled back at him happily.
Then, because the system’s earlier warning was still fresh in her mind, another thought hit her.
If she really wanted to complete this simulation and prove to her father that she was capable of doing things herself, then maybe she should actually start doing things herself.
So she looked at Mu Qingyi and said, "I want to come with you."
This time, Mu Qingyi really looked confused.
In the past, Lin Huahua had always stayed at home while the males did the hunting and gathering and everything else around it. Yesterday had already been strange enough with her following Feng Yiren around and picking random herbs, but now she wanted to come hunting fish too?
Still, if their female wanted to come, then who was he to stop her?
So after only a brief pause, Mu Qingyi nodded. "Alright."
Lin Huahua brightened instantly and stepped outside with him, but the moment her bare feet touched the rough ground, she immediately remembered something terrible.
She had no slippers, sandals or shoes in this world.
Her face twisted at once.
