Chapter 40: New Mission

"Seraphim Spear: Second Form—Piercer."

The boy’s spear shot straight at the alpha while six wind blades flew towards the other two.

The duo split up, dodging the attacks, meanwhile the alpha charged at him instead.

’Hm?’

Just before the spear would impale the alpha, it opened its mouth and sent a blast of wind energy at him.

Seraph immediately changed style, using the first form of his technique. The spear spun wildly in his hand, deflecting most of the attack.

Even then, Seraph was pushed back from the force. This left his rear exposed to the other two wolves.

They immediately seized the opportunity, rushing forward with speed and snapping their jaws at him.

Before their canines could successfully penetrate his shoulders, Seraph slipped. His balance was disturbed. He fell to the back, seeing the figures of the two wolves stand above him.

’Unfortunately...’

His spear moved, stabbing straight through the throat of one wolf. It stiffened, then dropped to the ground beside him—dead.

The alpha was once again enraged, howling and charging at him. Seraph rolled to the side at the last second, avoiding being crushed by the alpha’s powerful legs.

Before he could react, he felt the other wolf’s claws rake across his leg, creating a nasty wound on him.

’What a surprise.’

Seraph’s smile didn’t disappear, but it turned colder. Slamming his hands on the ground, he pushed himself back to his feet and faced the two wolves.

Blood dripped from his wound, but he didn’t even pay any attention to it. Lowering himself slightly, he dashed at the alpha.

’You’re going first.’

Seeing him charge at it again, the alpha prepared to send a blast of eat him again. This time, Seraph didn’t allow it. Before it could open its maw, he stretched out his spear and smacked its mouth close.

The wolf stumbled, almost hitting its mouth on the ground.

Seraph closed the distance instantly.

The spear moved once, stabbing through the throat of the alpha and completely skewering it.

Seeing the alpha die, the other wolf immediately turned around and fled. However, how could Seraph allow that?

He didn’t chase after it himself, but let the wind blades do the chasing.

The blades were fast, arriving at the target and slicing into its strong legs. The creature faltered, then fell to the ground. It had been rendered immobile.

Seraph walked up to it, then stabbed his spear through its head. His gaze returned to the paralyzed Initial Advanced Stage wolf still whimpering on the ground as it watched its alpha and pack members get killed.

Seraph didn’t feel any pity for it, simply stabbing his spear through its head.

"Finally..."

He sighed, looking at the terrain wearily. The fight with the pack was exhausting, and he wasn’t sure he could get back to the sect without even resting.

Smiling to himself, he approached the corpses of the Core Advanced Stage wolves and started removing their canines.

In just a few minutes, the wolves had become toothless dogs. Well, dead toothless dogs.

Storing the canines in a sack he had prepared beforehand, he finally paid attention to his injury. The wound wasn’t that deep, but it was nasty enough for blood to flow ceaselessly.

Seraph tore a strip of clothing from his undergarments, wrapping it around his leg like a bandage.

The cloth became stained with blood, but successfully stopped the bleeding—even if temporarily.

Carrying the sack of canines on his shoulder, he began making his way out of the Junlun Forest. Thankfully, he didn’t encounter any spirit beast on his way out, making him breathe a sigh of relief.

"Oi, fellow disciple. What are you doing here covered in ugly blood?"

Hearing that snarky voice, Seraph looked up to see three disciples of the Soul Cross Sect walking toward him.

Judging from their badges and robes, they belonged to the Summer Peak and were outer court disciples.

One of them stepped forward, a slightly concerned expression on his face.

"You look injured. What did you go and kill?"

Perhaps because Seraph was an outer court disciple, they felt some level of connection.

The white-haired boy rolled his eyes and shrugged. "It’s nothing serious. I just took a mission and I’m coming back."

"Ohh." The one in the middle nodded, then leaned forward curiously. "Which Peak are you from? Are you from our Summer Peak? Or are you one of the new disciples?"

Before Seraph could answer, the boy stepped forward and checked his badge.

He froze. He blinked in surprise and confusion, moving his gaze from Seraph’s face to the badge.

"Soul... peak?"

Hearing what he said, the other two reacted immediately.

"Impossible!"

They had never heard of an outer court disciple being a member of the Soul Peak. That section was only reserved for the best disciples of the sect.

"Did you steal that badge from a deceased disciple?"

Their expressions darkened immediately, and they stepped towards him threateningly.

Seraph rolled his eyes. "As you said, I’m a new disciple at the Soul Peak. And yes, I’m an outer court disciple."

"Hmph! You liar!" The one on the left retorted. "I doubt you are actually a disciple at all."

"Yeah. Maybe he’s just some random cultivator trying to sneak into the sect."

"Let’s apprehend him and report him to the senior brothers."

Before they could approach him, a fierce wind blew, making them cover their eyes and step back.

When they looked again, an Inner Court disciple was standing beside Seraph. The girl had sharp eyebrows and an aloof expression on her face.

Glancing at the three outer court disciples, she asked. "What is your business with my junior brother here?"

The three disciples of the Summer Peak were stunned. Their mouths hung open in shock, and they were unable to form coherent words.

"This..." One of them gathered courage and spoke up. "We... we thought he stole the badge from somewhere so we were trying to correct him."

The girl; Sylvia, glared at them with a frown. "Then get lost already. Seraph is a disciple of our Soul Peak."

"Haha. Of course, of course."

Laughing awkwardly, the three boys immediately scattered, disappearing from her view.

Sylvia finally turned her attention back to Seraph. Staring at his blood-soaked clothes, she was astonished.

"You brat. What kind of mission did you go for? You look terrible."

Seraph smiled helplessly and shrugged. "It’s not that bad, right?"

Sylvia clicked her tongue, then dragged him from the base of the Summer Peak, to the base of the Soul Peak.

"Ah, Senior Sister that hurts. Uwah!"

He complained as she dumped him at the base of the peak, causing the disciples nearby to look at them weirdly.

Sylvia’s expression didn’t change, and she immediately turned around and left.

"Ugh."

Seraph picked himself up from the ground, then began climbing up the mountain. In less than an hour, he finally arrived at the Mission Hall.

Looking bloodied and battered, he stepped through the door and went straight to the woman who had given him the mission.

Unlike the previous time he came, she had her head raised.

Noting his robes, she raised an eyebrow as he approached.

"I’ve completed the mission."

Seraph said with a frail smile, dropping the sack onto the counter.

The woman gave him a suspicious glance, then carefully opened the sack. After examining the contents for a while, she took another look at Seraph.

"You killed all these?"

Seraph nodded plainly, his smile unchanging. The woman took a look at the canines again, then shook her head.

"I almost can’t believe it."

She took away the sack from the counter, then gave Seraph 80 silver spirit crystals. This was the reward for completing a mission.

Seraph accepted it, then asked. "I need a few luminous spirit orbs, lightning ores, megan metals and some corrosive spirit fluids. Can you customize a mission for me to earn that?"

The woman frowned, observing his expression keenly. "What do need those materials for?"

They weren’t precious materials or anything, but the familiarity with which he mentioned them made her cautious.

Seraph didn’t give a straight answer.

"Nothing serious. Just some little play."

"Huh..." The woman deadpanned. Still, she decided to accept his request. "For you to obtain these materials, you’ll have to complete three interconnected missions. Is that okay with you?"

Seraph nodded calmly. Suddenly, he remembered something and spoke up.

"Right. Don’t forget that I’m an Initial Advanced Stage cultivator and not a Core Advanced Stage cultivator. Thank you."

The woman looked up in surprise, "You are? How did you complete the first mission then? You stole the canines from their mouths?"

Seraph shook his head. "Forget it. I just know that I don’t like risking my life when it’s not worth it."

The woman frowned and snorted, then brought out three mission slips for him.

"These are the simplest I can offer you right now."

Seraph collected the slips, then checked the missions listed on them.

["Eh? The Soul Cross Sect disciples are escorting a princess?"]
