Chapter 166: The Lucky Bastard
"Motherfucker," Gu Chen cursed through his clenched teeth, as he realized the annoying political nightmare this disaster would cause back at the Gu Clan.
How was he supposed to stand before the elders and say that , ’I led twenty elite disciples into the Miasma Woods, triggered an Earth-Grade Slaughter Array, personally killed two of the loyal Gu Clan disciples, and then watched the rest begin slaughtering one another?’
The First Elder would probably spit blood on the spot.
The Third Elder would demand an investigation.
And the Matriarch? Fuck this was something she would love to have it served to her on platter.
’Who could I possibly blame this massive disaster upon?’ Gu Chen quickly ran through all the scenarios, but nothing seemed to be of any help.
"Damn it..."
Gu Chen gripped his sword so tightly that his knuckles turned white.
But around him, the Slaughter Array continued its work.
A disciple with a broken arm charged toward another while screaming, "Die demonic beast! Die!"
The other disciple screamed back, "You think you can dare stand in Young Master Gu Chen’s way? I will personally slaughter you!"
Their weapons collided as sparks flew.
Then both of them stabbed forward at the same time.
Puchi!
Two spearheads pierced two chests as the men stared at each other and for a brief moment, the illusion flickered as their eyes widened. They finally saw the truth.
They were like possessed demons, tearing throats out with their bare teeth or driving their weapons through the chests of their own sworn brothers, completely lost in the mind-warping madness of the Earth-Grade Slaughter Array.
Gu Chen’s gaze swept through the crimson fog. He needed to find the array core. That too immediately.
Otherwise, every last disciple would die here.
But as he scanned the glowing crimson perimeter with his bleeding eyes, his gaze suddenly locked onto a deeply infuriating sight.
Gu Fan was currently sitting comfortably on a massive boulder completely outside the glowing crimson perimeter of the massive array, his sword casually resting on his lap while he happily watched the brutal bloodbath with an entertained smirk on his face.
His one leg was casually crossed over the other, and he looked completely relaxed.
Gu Chen stared.
His eye twitched.
Then it twitched again.
"This bastard!" Gu Chen almost coughed up blood looking at Gu Fan.
’How is this possible?’ His jaw tightly clenched as he realized that the ’trash’ was the only person who hadn’t taken that final step into the trap.
’Can anyone be this lucky?’ Was he just insanely lucky? Gu Chen started having serious doubts, ’Nobody could possibly be this heaven-defyingly lucky right?’
’First he complains about a thorn, and then avoids an Earth-Grade trap without advanced warning?’
But before Gu Chen could properly calculate his bastard brother’s luck, a violently screaming Gu Clan disciple lunged directly at him with a blood-stained spear.
"Die, you hideous demon!" the possessed disciple roared at the top of his lungs, violently thrusting the sharp weapon directly at Gu Chen’s throat with sheer, unadulterated killing intent.
"Go to sleep!" Gu Chen scoffed as he effortlessly stepped to the side, dodging the lethal thrust before he chopped his hand onto the back of the disciple’s neck.
BANG!
The blunt force knocked the screaming youth unconscious, as his eyes rolled back and he dropped into the bloody mud like a puppet with its strings cut.
"Gu Fan?!" Gu Chen roared aggressively, his lungs violently burning with pure frustration as he raised his sword to block another heavy, incoming strike from a different crazed disciple.
"Brother Chen?" Gu Fan looked at him confused, "You are awake?!"
"You useless trash, why are you just sitting there?" Gu Chen yelled at Gu Fan from inside the Slaughter Array, "Come here and help me!"
"What?" Gu Fan dramatically widened his green eyes, "Brother Chen I can’t!"
"What the hell? Why?" Gu Chen frowned as he clutched his chest in pain.
"Because I am injured?"
Gu Chen’s face darkened.
"Injured?"
"Yes."
Gu Fan nodded solemnly.
"Did you forget? A thorn pierced My foot." He lifted his boot slightly, showing it to Gu Chen, "Look."
Gu Chen stared at the boot. There was not even a hole, "What the fuck? There is nothing there."
Gu Fan sighed, "Brother Chen, you are truly heartless."
"Just because the wound is small does not mean the pain is small."
"You..." Gu Chen’s sword nearly snapped in his hand, "Gu Fan it is not time to joke. Help me save our clan brothers! Think of them!"
Gu Fan blinked as he stared at Gu Chen with an innocent expression, "Brother Chen you truly think highly of me."
’Like hell I do!’ Gu Chen almost shouted.
"You are the only person outside the formation!" Gu Chen tried to reason instead.
Gu Fan sighed deeply, then he placed a hand against his chest, "Brother Chen..." His expression became tragic.
"I am in unimaginable pain... Pain that not you, nor they can imagine," Gu Fan said with a sorrowful expression pointing at the Gu Clan disciples fighting with their lives on the line.
Gu Fan continued with a pained expression, "If I swing my sword now, I fear I may suffer Qi deviation."
He paused as he looked Gu Chen straight in the eye with a serious expression, "I may even die."
"And the youngest son of Gu Clan’s patriarch cannot die... He can never die."
Gu Chen’s face turned green. Inside the formation, disciples were literally killing one another, and this bastard was worried about a thorn prick.
"You..." Gu Chen’s breathing became heavy, "You useless trash!"
Gu Fan’s eyes widened in shock. He could never believe his big brother could actually say something like that.
"Brother Chen!" Gu Fan cried out in absolute horror at his big brother’s words, "How can you say such cruel words?"
"I have always admired you."
"I have always believed you could save everyone with your heaven-defying swordsmanship."
"And for you to say such a thing!"
"I can’t believe it!"
"Tell me I am dreaming. This is all a dream! This has to be!"
Gu Fan looked at Gu Chen as if his brother has done blasphemy. He then looked at his hand and gently pinches himself.
"Ouch! Heavens!" Gu Fan cried out in exaggerated pain, "Heavens it is not a dream!"
"What do I do? What do I do?!" Gu Fan shook his head deeply hurt, "Why did I not become dead before I heard such a thing?! Why Heavens? Why? Why did you have to be so cruel and make Brother Gu Chen hate me?"
"You... Wha... I am..." Meanwhile Gu Chen’ stared at Gu Fan’s exaggerated performance and his lips trembled.
This was mockery. The Clan’s trash was blatantly mocking him.
Yet he could not refute him.
"Heavens Fuck Me!" Gu Chem cursed as he gave up and looked away, clenching his teeth.
"If I survive this..." He paused as he looked over his shoulder, "...I will settle accounts with you later."
Gu Fan smiled warmly hearing Gu Chen and clapped in delight, "Brother Chen, I believe in you."
Gu Chen almost tripped onto his steps. The bastard wasn’t scared of him one bit.
But with no other choice left, Gu Chen had to do something on his own.
A mess had already been made and he could not spill it further.
For a moment, he had a thought. Should he knock out every disciple one by one?
But he quickly gave up on the thought. From the moment he had stopped fighting, Gu Chen had felt his strength slowly and steadily seep away from his body. And right now, he was starting to feel exhausted.
Meanwhile, the Gu Clan disciples seem to be growing stronger and stronger with every punch they threw.
Having absolutely no other choice, Gu Chen forced his meridians to circulate his Spiritual Qi through his eyes, as he activated the ’Righteous Eyes’ again for a third consecutive time to perfectly locate the array’s hidden core.
But using the heaven-defying visual technique so frequently instantly placed a terrifying strain directly onto his spiritual sense.
The second his blue eyes flashed with golden light, Gu Chen coughed up a mouthful of black blood as intense dizziness and skull-cracking headaches slammed hum.
The backlash of overdrawing his spiritual energy to use the Righteous Eyes blurred his vision into absolute darkness before his knees buckled up in the pressure causing Gu Chen to collapse entirely unconscious directly onto the bloody ground.
Gu Fan looked at the unconscious Gu Chen.
Then looked at the bloodstained mud covering his handsome face.
A faint smile appeared on Gu Fan’s lips.
"Brother Chen... Oh Brother Chen." He shook his head helplessly, "Your performance was very impressive."
"Unfortunately..."
"You fainted before the final act."
"Now I have to enjoy the slaughter all alone!"
Gu Fan streched himself, ready to simply sit back and let the slaughter array completely wipe out the remaining Gu Clan disciples.
But just as he comfortably leaned back against the boulder, a translucent blue screen violently materialized directly in his vision.
