Chapter 165: Motherfucker... (Part - 2)

"What in the heavens?!" Gu Chen gasped loudly in shock.

How can a demonic beasts use intelligent blocking techniques?

But before his mind could even properly process the anomaly, three of the massive beasts lunged directly at his exposed back from the sides.

sensing the danger, Gu Fan twisted himself and executed a movement art to perfectly blur his himself out of their trajectory. The two hounds missed their target, but one of them whipped its spiked tail right through the air in a sweeping and calculated arc that perfectly predicted Gu Chen’s exact evasion path.

It was a four versus one scenario and despite trying his best the tail smashed directly into Gu Chen’s left shoulder with terrifying, bone-rattling force, ripping completely through the robes and digging deep into her flesh which left bleeding gashes onto his pale body.

"Argh! You filthy animals!" Gu Chen grunted in pain and anger as he mid-air spun around to slash his sword across the attacking beast’s exposed belly.

The violently sharp blade perfectly ripped straight through the thick, muscular hide, tearing the beast’s stomach wide open as thick, dark red blood and hot, steaming intestines spilled out onto the burning ground, instantly killing the creature as it collapsed heavily into a bubbling puddle of its own blood and flesh.

But Gu Chen didn’t stop to admire his work as the remaining beasts were already swarming him with coordinated tactical formations.

One massive beast violently snapped its massive jaws directly at his legs to restrict his movement arts, while another heavy hound aggressively leaped high into the red sky to crush him from above.

But while numbers were against him, Gu Chen was way stronger than those beasts. He jumped up in the air to avoid the first attack on his legs and then swung his sword in a wide arc, parrying the heavy claws of the falling beast before thrusting his sharp blade straight up through the creature’s lower jaw, impaling the beast’s brain and instantly kicking its heavy, dead corpse right off his silver blade.

"Die you ugly thing," Gu Chen arrogantly spit on the dead hound as he prepared to unleash another attack to kill of the next hound closest to him.

But just as he looked around, he found a bizarre scene unfolding in front of him.

The remaining two dozen massive hounds weren’t focused entirely on killing him at all.

Instead, chaos had erupted among the pack as the beasts were suddenly fighting among themselves as if they hated the other to the bone.

Gu Chen stood perfectly frozen in pure confusion as he watched one massive beast bite down onto the thick neck of another hound, tearing a massive chunk of bloody flesh right out of its throat while a third beast violently wrapped its heavy tail completely around the legs of a smaller hound, lifting the screaming creature straight into the air before smashing it headfirst directly against a jagged boulder with a sickening, bone-shattering crunch.

They were sweeping kicks, shoulder bashing, punching and using movement techniques to slaughter their own kind.

"What in the heavens is this place?" Gu Chen whispered to himself as his hand suddenly reached out for his chest, "Is this an illusion array? But this feels so real. where in the world did they transport me? Things that were suppose to kill me are fighting among themselves?"

"How can I get out of here?"

"What is this place?"

Gu Chen rubbed his eyes which were already burning with pain. He did not want to, but he suddenly had a hunch. and putting the pieces together, if his hunch was right...

He completely ignored the heavy, burning pain in his eyes and channelled his Spiritual Qi directly up into his visual nerves, forcing his supreme ’Righteous Eyes’ to activate.

And as the blinding golden light flooded his pupils, the terrifyingly hot, red volcanic wasteland and the ever stretching red sky instantly flickered away and dissolved into a watery mirage.

And the very next second, Gu Fan found himself not standing in that burning realm surrounded by huge beasts at all.

He was still standing right exactly in the wide open area with that tall skeleton like tree in the Miasma Woods, surrounded by the exact same thick green fog and dead trees from before.

As the blood-red fog disappeared, the distorted shadows vanished, the snarling demonic hounds evaporated in thin air.

Everything began to peel apart layer by layer like a painted illusion being scraped away by an invisible hand.

Then Gu Chen saw the truth.

His pupils contracted.

With his supreme Righteous Eyes completely shattering the visual illusion, Gu Chen clearly saw that the massive, drooling demonic hounds tearing each other up to death weren’t actually beasts at all.

They were all Gu Clan disciples slashing their blood-stained weapons at each other like mindless zombies completely lost of their sense of reasoning.

Under the influence of the Slaughter Array, they saw one another as hideous monsters.

Their eyes were bloodshot.

Their expressions twisted with terror.

Their weapons were soaked in blood.

Every person believed they were fighting for survival.

Every person believed they were killing a beast.

"Die!"

Gu Lin roared.

His spear pierced directly through another disciple’s chest.

The wounded man coughed blood.

Yet even as life left his body, he swung his sword with the last of his strength.

Slash!

Gu Lin’s head flew through the crimson mist.

Two bodies collapsed into the mud, dead by each other’s hands.

Gu Chen’s face became pale.

"This..." The Slaughter Array was not merely a killing formation. It was a formation designed to destroy the heart.

Ordinary formations used flames, lightning, sword Qi, poison, or spatial distortions to kill intruders.

This formation was different.

It entered the spiritual sea, twisted their sight and poisoned their thoughts by magnifying fear, anger, and killing intent until the victim could no longer distinguish friend from enemy.

It did not need to kill people itself. It made them kill each other.

Gu Chen slowly lowered his gaze.

Near his feet lay the corpses of the two "demonic beasts" he had personally slain moments earlier.

As the illusion faded, and the grotesque shapes vanished, in the place of the beasts were two familiar faces.

Two Gu Clan disciples who had served him faithfully for years. Now hey lay on the ground with their eyes still wide open.

"Motherfucker..."
