Chapter 184: Let the truth be easy
Mira nearly lost her mind. She sure had thought about this but she cannot remember if she acted on it or not. It seemed like stress and pregnancy had made her forget but hearing this now made her panic.
She did not know what to say. She had so many words in her head but none of them left her lips. She wanted to ask how close the people he sent were to finding Jia Hao. She wanted to ask if he was going to be okay but even she knew that he would not know the answer to that. It made her hyperventilate.
"Of course, pretend like you do not know." Wei Jie said in a firm tone, again.
Ming Tao wanted to jump right at him and punch him but he did not want to fight in front of Mira, he knew this was the last thing she needed right now.
"The least you can do as the better person you try so hard to be among us is be sympathetic towards me." Mira said to Wei Jie. She darted her head up to face him and for a moment, he felt his eyes soften as he returned her gaze. Her eyes were red and watery.
This demon was about to cry. . . There was no way she cared about Jia Hao that much. . . There was absolutely no way she had no hand in this. . . right? Wei Jie thought to himself, of course there was no way! It was not her first time being full of pretense.
Wei Jie’s eyes hardened. "Someone like you does not deserve sympathy." He stated.
Mira’s lips parted as she sobbed. "Please, take me away from him. It’s not good for my baby and me." Mira said to Ming Tao. She did not want to be anywhere near a man who would only make her feel bad about herself. Yes, the old owner of this body was detestable and evil, but the least he could do was show a pregnant beast woman some love, even if she did not deserve it. "If you need anything else from me, I will pass it on but only from a distance from him." Mira said. Ming Tao helped Mira up, clutching onto her gently.
Alpha Wolf Wei Jie stared at the two of them. He was ridden with anger and shock. This was what he meant by the demon of the forest can easily manipulate Ming Tao into doing her hidden because she was carrying his child. The Leading Cheetah who was also his friend was being defensive towards him because of her! That made his blood boil but he tried to suppress it. If not for her, for Ming Tao’s sake and for the sake of Jia Hao.
He would not just listen blindly to what Mira had done say about Hye Yang but he would surely help out the way he could while also keeping an eye on Hye Yang from the shadows. He was not stupid enough to blow his cover but he wanted to see for himself if she was indeed as bad as the two of them proclaimed.
The door shut behind Wei Jie and he was left alone in the room. He ran his hands throughout the leaves on the table and let his eyes scan them. He could not read anything from them. They looked blank although he knew that things could be inscribed in them.
Wei Jie let out a sigh. He would have his shaman brought to aid with this. He would believe his shaman over what that demon of the forest had said.
And what if she was right and Hye Yang truly is behind all of these things, what would I do then? Alpha Wolf Wei Jie asked himself. He raise his hand up his face and pinched the bridge of his nose.
If this was the case, then he owed Mira Yang an apology but that was as far as it would go.
The door slid open and someone made his way into the room. It was Ming Tao.
"You told me you would control yourself in front of her.." Were the words Ming Tao used to welcome Wei Jie the moment he stood before him.
"I am trying my hardest." Wei Jie said to Ming Tao.
"Try harder." Ming Tao stated. "I know she has done a lot of things to you,"
"Terrible things. A lot of terrible things." Wei Jie interrupted with a correction to Ming Tao’s statement.
Ming Tao sighed. "I know she has done a lot of terrible things to you, but please, as long as you are here, even if you cannot not hate her, tolerate her. For my sake. I do not want anything happening to my wife or my baby."
Wei Jie’s hand clenched into a fist. He took his other hand from the bridge of his nose then stood up straight from his bent position towards the table to face Ming Tao. "I give you my word." He said.
"Thank you." Ming Tao responded.
Wei Jie returned his attention to the leaves. "I will have my shaman come in a disguise to validate these things. Till then, I will keep an eye on Hye Yang myself and have my people search throughout the forest for Jia Hao. I will also send word to Mighty Eagle Tian Yu since we need eyes in the sky as well. Just in case you are being monitored."
"Thank you." Ming Tao stated.
"Please, anything for a beloved friend." Wei Jie said to him. He eased his face and looked at the leaves once more. "Do you really think Hye Yang is that evil? She. . ." Wei Jie swallowed. "Was the one who helped us get over our unjust treatment with Mira. Could she really be as evil as you say?" Wei Jie did not want to believe that the one woman he had let come close to him who did not belong to his clan was a terrible woman who had kept her true self hidden for so long. Wei Jie understood how dire this situation was and he knew the punishment for it was death. This was a hard thing to swallow especially because he had grown so attached to Hye Yang.
Ming Tao walked to Wei Jie’s side and placed a hand on his shoulder. "I know it is difficult. It was for me too."
Wei Jie shut his eyes tight. If Hye Yang was truly evil, then the one he got to know was nothing but a lie and he could not let himself be drawn to a lie. "What has to be done must be done. No matter the cost. . . I am sure she was aware of the consequences to her actions." These words were hard to say. Wei Jie took a deep breath and let out an exhale, never in his life did he expect that he would want a woman to be free of so many bad things and prefer them to be blamed on the demon of the forest instead, after all, everyone already knew Mira was evil.
