Chapter 169: So close to the truth
The things kept not making sense. No matter how much Mira and Ming Tao went over them over and over again, it made little to no sense.
What were these leaves? They looked so different from the ones that normally grew within the parts the five beast rulers governed yet it was obvious that they were leaves. To top it all, they were not dead. If Mira had not transmigrated into the beast world, she would have thought she was running mad and that maybe she was hallucinating because this could not be real.
Different kind of leaves, or possibly herbs had been cut out of the source plant for so long yet they looked fresh and healthy like it had never been severed. To top it all, the vein like markings leaves typically had were gone from these, so it looked like blank paper.
It also seemed like there were some scribbling on the leaves pamphlets yet at the same time, it looked like she was just seeing stuff.
Could this be magic?
Was Hye Yang really that hateful to tap into hidden and forbidden magic to do her dirty works? Mira questioned in her mind. There was no other possible explanation for this, everything seemed way too stupid. Before now, she never would have imagined herself going through leaves and trying to make sense of it other than seeing what they were for what they were which was just plant.
Mira let out a sigh and stretched her hand to reach for her forehead. Her fingers squeezed her forehead and massaged gently as she was deep in thought. She would rather have a tongue railing her insides right now than doing this, anything but this would suffice.
[ In case you have forgotten, I can do a quick scan and help you get to the source with every single detail you need, host! ] system chimed.
This made Mira look up, she had completely forgotten that system could do that.
"That would be nice, thank you." Mira stated under her breath.
Ming Tao looked up from the other end of the table when Mira spoke. He was sat opposite her on a wooden stool as they went through Hye Yang’s belongings together and this was the first time Mira said something. He had not spoken either so he knew that she did not respond to him.
Ming Tao tilted his head to the side then around the room they were both in before returning his gaze back to his wife. A worried look immediately plastered his face.
It must be her pregnancy at work, Ming Tao thought as he processed the right words to say that would not end up with her wanting to severe his head. "Are you. . . ." Ming Tao swallowed. He shifted his wooden stool back a bit so his body was far from a hand’s length away from Mira. "Are you okay, my darling? You just spoke to yourself." Ming Tao stated. He did not want to believe his beloved was going crazy. She could not possibly be going crazy. Not yet at least. They had barely begun any work.
Mira raised her head slightly to face him, a perplexed look on her face. She blinked, trying to understand what Ming Tao was talking about till it clicked in her head that she spoke to system out loud. Shit. She completely forgot about that part.
And her husband was now looking at her like she needed to visit a psychiatrist. A wavy grin formed on Mira’s lips. Now she understood why he shifted his stool backwards before asking her that. That was some good thinking, she had to admit.
"I am fine," Mira stated then let out a hefty sigh. "I am just way too tired and need some water." Mira added. "Could you get some for me?" She asked politely. To be honest, she did not need water but she wanted system to scan whatever these jumbo mumbo was before her so she could start getting the clues clearly and stop putting her brain to work. Mira had been in the beast world for a long time now and she did not want to remember what it was like working a nine to five. She did not want to have to use her head at all, not when everything came to her as freely as it did.
Ming Tao stood up. "Your way of sending me on an errand is fancy, I must give you that." He said to her. Mira could have just asked but she thanked him instead, leaving him no room to contend, if he ever wanted to. "Would you prefer your water warm or cool?" Ming Tao asked.
"A little mix of both." Mira said to him. She loved how he did not read too deep and just accepted whatever came out from her mouth. Mira was convinced that she could jump into fire and say ’the wind whispered into my ears and told me it was blazing water’ and Ming Tao would accept her words. She was tempted to try it, after all, she had the pregnancy rejuvenation.
[ I pity you, host! ] System chimed. This made Mira’s face flatten. Nothing good could ever come out from that statement.
"I will be back in a short while, darling." Ming Tao said before heading to the door. The moment his presence left the room and the door came shut, Mira immediately looked up.
"System, scan these leaves and tell me every single thing I need to know about them along with its uses and any hidden information scribbled on them. I want to say that I am just seeing things as the beast world is not advanced but coming from an era where I have seen AI and art drawn on leaves, it would be stupid for me not to imagine something can be done on leaves here too with some sort of magic." Especially when the one who had these things was her sister and Hye Yang had gotten a concoction mix that was banned before. In fact, she had multiple and this same Hye Yang had also gotten Ming Tao hypnotised. Mira did not know how Hye Yang was able to do hypnosis but she hoped to find out soon enough.
[Scanning the requested data.
This may take a while, host! ]
Mira looked at the loading icon on the blue screen and the checked lines that shone out of the screen before her onto the items laid before her. Now she would wait. Ming Tao was not in the room so Mira did not what to do while she was waiting, she let her eyes roam around the leaves a little longer when a thought came to her mind.
If Hye Yang could indeed do black magic, then how on earth was she able to work her way into it? Did she have a master? And was the master someone from this region of the beast world or not? Mira could not tell but it was worth a thought. It made Mira wonder if Hye Yang herself could be under a spell without her knowledge and the one who was indeed against the old owner of this body was someone other than her sister.
It would be a much bigger issue is these thoughts happened to be proved true, maybe I should not think about this, my life is not some soap opera or reincarnation kdrama, Mira said to herself.
Now that she thought about it, her life was so close to being a drama that it bugged her. Mira trailed her eyes back to to the screen and saw the scan was still being done, this would surely take a while as system stated.
Mira let out a sigh. She wanted to get out of this place and meet with somebody. She wanted to speak with Shu Hua and get Mu Yang drunk enough that he would spill out all he knew from working with Hye Yang. After all, the way to that nasty fox’s heart was through women and Mira had him surrounded with just a good number of women to make him give in to her every desire and speak. But she needed him drunk first.
Mira felt something in her belly move and it made her eyes widen. She lowered her head to face her stomach when she noticed her stomach still moving. Mira’s heart skipped a beat. This seemed pretty fast, were cheetah babies born at a shorter time than lion babies or was this all in Mira’s mind?
Mira paid close attention to her stomach but she felt it move again. She did not imagine it, her baby was moving in her stomach. And her bump was barely even defined yet.
Ming Tao walked into the room with two wooden cups in his hand. Mira stared up to look at him. "Ming Tao, I think I just felt our baby!"
