Help! I Think We Summoned A Demon King

Chapter 69: The Musical Assassins

"What the hell are you doing, number three ?!. I told you to cripple him!" The boss yelled, seeing the sudden change in Zorat.

The more time passes, the more he realises that number five’s previous concerns must have been valid.

What type of sick person would act so joyously when they are literally having their nerves turned to paste?

And if that wasn’t already concerning, the sudden change in state from behaving like a complete psycho to looking and smiling like a gentleman was even more so.

He had no interest in whatever type of sick game such a person would recommend.

"Number three, are you alright in the head?. I told you to cripple him already!" he commanded agitatedly, his voice trembled in baritone.

"I am trying my best, boss!... but I am almost out of mana." Number three responded as he struggled to maintain the tempo of the violin on his shoulders.

Logically, the young hero in front of them should not just have been crippled with the intensity he was currently playing at; he should have been dead outright.

But instead, Zorat looks perfectly fine.

"You are useless... number four, put him to sleep." The boss barked another order, becoming more agitated and losing his composure.

Number three had never failed an attack; he was their main dealer after all, but he chose to believe there was a reasonable explanation for what was happening.

At the boss’s command, another figure crouching on a branch to the left brought out what looked to be a harp.

The figure balanced the instrument on the branch and began to play a sonorous, dreary rhythm.

"Are you guys perhaps in a band ?" Zorat asked, smiling, with his hands behind his back.

The attack arrived as expected, but it was not a physical attack like the previous one; it went for his mind.

"Another mind-based attack? ...sigh"

"Though I see this one is supposed to... put me to sleep ?" Zorat muttered as he turned his attention to the new assailant.

"But I don’t feel like sleeping, young human... now, why don’t you try something else. You guys are becoming more fun." He added in glee.

"How... how is this possible?" The boss blurted in confusion as a cold sweat dripped down his forehead.

He could see both number four and number three trying their best, but all their attacks weren’t even phasing the young man, who appeared to be only at the adept realm.

"Wait... number five. Are you currently activating your skills on him right now? " The boss muttered wearily as he turned sharply in five’s direction.

"Yes... but..."

"But it’s not working." The boss added in a grave tone, cutting number five off.

"I don’t think it’s actually ever worked...."

"Which would mean.... he came here of his own free will..."

"Shit.... Retreat everyone! Now!!!." The boss yelled as his crew paused their attacks in shock, seeing their leader was already zapping his way through the woods without looking back.

They didn’t need to be told twice; the situation was already not looking right, so they all turned on their heels and ran as fast as the wind could carry them, hopping from one tree to another at insane speeds.

Zorat watched them run in amusement, not moving an inch from his spot. Then his expression transformed into one of unhinged depravity, with a wide smile that stretched all the way to his high cheekbones.

hehehe.

The boss sped through the woods at the full speed of a grandmaster; he didn’t dare to look back.

For a prey that walks into a trap on its own was either foolish... or no prey at all.

The young man back there might have been insane... but he definitely wasn’t foolish.

If he isn’t foolish.... and he isn’t prey....

Then he can only be one thing....

A predator.

And as they have come to hunt him, he now understands that that person had come to hunt them too.

He was probably disguising his level by some means, maybe an artifact, or he possesses an armament strong enough to negate all their lethal moves.

There were too many unknowns, and they seemed incapable of doing any damage whatsoever to him. Rather, if they do manage to wound him, he might even be grateful for the pain.

"What the hell is that freak ?!"

"That piece of shit Aeric..." recalling the person who had placed the mark for their current target, the boss could only curse in his mind in spite.

The boss was going so fast he failed to notice an obstruction on the way, but when he did, it was already too late, as he slammed face-first into a vertical, smooth surface of earth wall.

Shaking his head vigorously to wring out the onsetting vertigo, he noticed not just him, but all other members of his assassination squad at different cardinal directions were now facing an obstruction of earth wall in front of them.

Though it was dark out, the moonlight from the massive moons in the sky cast a decent illumination on the forest. And what the boss was currently seeing before him caused him to shiver in sheer terror.

He and the rest of the assassins had spread out in different directions, just as they had been trained to do in times of retreat. Following multiple escape routes.

But no matter which part either of them followed, there now stood an earth wall obstruction in their way, as some slammed face-first into them, while the more sensitive ones were lucky enough to alter their acceleration before the damage was done.

All of them were wide-eyed in shock, terror, and bewilderment, because they had come through this exact path and scouted this area thoroughly, tabulating every route and point of exit....

There had been no such wall.... And it wasn’t just any wall.

This wall that seemed to have appeared out of nowhere was at least a kilometer high, reaching into the sky, and was currently surrounding a radius of nearly two kilometers in all directions.

The boss staggered back, petrified as he got a proper view of the situation.

"By the goddess!... We’re so fucked."
