Chapter 409 409: The Formation So Crazy It Might Just Work
"Izuna, here's what I propose."
At that moment, Tobirama—who had seemed lost in thought but had in fact been silently observing Izuna's every micro-expression—finally spoke in a slow, steady tone: "First, we need to create a grand formation—one capable of linking every living being across the shinobi world, pooling all their chakra together into one place..."
"Moreover, this formation must also amplify dōjutsu. I've already said it—our current chakra supply is far too limited. So, we find a way to force out every drop of their hidden potential!"
Izuna nodded in agreement. "Individually, the combat capabilities of these shinobi—even if we rush their training—won't make them useful in high-tier battles..."
"A transformation through sheer numbers is our best shot."
A flash of satisfaction crossed Tobirama's eyes. As expected, speaking with Uchiha Izuna was never a chore.
Whatever Tobirama said, this guy got it. There was no need to endlessly explain things like he used to with his brother.
"Exactly. It's about quantity transforming into quality… But concentrating the Allied Shinobi Forces into a single focal point still isn't enough. I need each and every one of them to reach their personal limits."
Tobirama slashed his hand through the air with cold resolve. "Shisui—that is, Kazuki's younger brother… His dōjutsu Kagutsuhane can forcibly unlock a person's latent potential. We'll use the formation to connect every shinobi to the effect of Shisui's eyes!"
"And Uchiha Madara—his dōjutsu enhances the power of ninjutsu, doesn't it? He has to be part of this too. If we pull this off, we can achieve something akin to every shinobi opening the Eighth Gate!"
A flicker of madness surged in Tobirama's eyes.
"If we do this… every shinobi will unleash at least a hundred times their normal power! And when those hundredfold increases stack together within the formation, the result won't just be additive—it'll trigger a true transformation through scale!"
Izuna's heart skipped a beat.
He remembered very well what the Eight Gates could do...
Ōtsutsuki Isshiki, who ambushed Uchiha Madara, was nearly kicked to death by Might Duy after opening the Eighth Gate…
If all the shinobi in the world—along with the summon beasts of the Three Great Sage Regions—about a hundred thousand in total… if every single one of them activated the Eighth Gate...
The steam released from all that potential—could probably form a terrifying, blood-red tornado.
"You're... you're insane!"
Uchiha Izuna spoke with difficulty. "You're always saying the Uchiha are twisted and extreme—but look at this plan of yours! You're the one who sounds the most like a demon!"
"After burning through that much potential, how many of the hundred thousand shinobi do you think will still be alive?"
"When you gaze into the abyss... the abyss gazes back into you." Tobirama's scarlet eyes shimmered in the darkness.
"I won't deny this is a gamble—but it's the best option we have... If Kazuki loses, not a single soul in the shinobi world survives. But if he wins, then even if we die, we'll be brought back!"
"You might say, maybe Kazuki can burn himself out and defeat the Ōtsutsuki alone—that there's no need to drag the rest of the shinobi world into this risk."
"And you're right."
"But I disagree. If we wish to enjoy the peace that Kazuki fights for alone, then in the face of an enemy this powerful, I want to see every last person in the shinobi world step forward. I will not allow Kazuki to fight this battle alone!"
Tobirama's tone softened slightly. "That's how I feel, on a personal level... But speaking objectively, pushing Kazuki to become stronger by any means necessary is still the best way for the shinobi world to survive this crisis."
"Unless... you don't trust Kazuki?"
Izuna fell silent.
He wanted to argue back, say he barely knew Kazuki—why should he trust him?
But everything Kazuki had done made it impossible for Izuna to deny the truth: when it came to something of this magnitude, there was no one more reliable.
Not even his own brother, Uchiha Madara—Izuna couldn't in good conscience entrust the future to him. "...You're right. Kazuki truly does carry love for his family, and for the entire shinobi world."
Izuna let out a long sigh. "I still remember… during that battle against the Ōtsutsuki, the very first thing he did after arriving was flood us with massive amounts of Yang Release chakra to heal our wounds."
"Even someone like the Sage of Six Paths was able to revive the dead from the Pure Land... I have to admit, if Kazuki has the power to do it, he will bring back every shinobi who gave him chakra."
"He hasn't lost himself to power. Even as he stands beyond the level of the Sage of Six Paths, his gaze is still fixed far ahead—on the future of the shinobi world..."
Izuna exhaled deeply. "You've convinced me, Senju Tobirama. I agree with your plan—and no, I don't think you're extreme."
"Shinobi are born with the readiness to die. It's disgraceful for the strongest to charge forward while the weak cower behind them praying to survive."
"Tell me, what's the next step?"
Under the pale glow of the moonlight, inside a not-so-spacious bedroom—
This pair of lifelong rivals had, for the first time, reached agreement.
"If Kazuki can defeat the enemy by opening the Eighth Gate... that would be ideal. All we'd have to do is restore his vitality afterward—we wouldn't need to provoke the planetary consciousness at all."
Now that Uchiha Izuna had given his clear support, some of the madness in Tobirama's expression finally began to fade.
"If Kazuki opens the Eighth Gate and still fails to win, there are two possible outcomes—"
"First: if the difference in strength isn't too great, then we'll use the grand formation to collectively unleash everyone's potential and transfer all that power to Kazuki. In short, we stay far away from that unpredictable planetary consciousness."
"Second: if the enemy's strength is far beyond what we imagined, then we'll need to find a way to help Kazuki suppress the planetary consciousness directly..."
Senju Tobirama spoke slowly: "One hundred thousand shinobi opening the Eighth Gate—combined with the Sage of Six Paths and his brother, and the so-called Sages of the Three Great Regions... all that chakra gathered into one place..."
"Kazuki and I share a soul imprint. Our power can be transferred freely… I'll act as his shield and seal the planetary consciousness within myself."
"And at that moment, everyone's strength must first be used to activate Kanrō, in order to seal the planetary consciousness inside me..."
"By then, I'll likely be incapable of fighting. With the planet's power sealed inside me, I won't be able to accept chakra from the Allied Shinobi Forces either—it could push me into complete rampage."
"That's why you have to use Kanrō on me—to protect my consciousness from being instantly devoured."
Tobirama continued in a calm voice: "Do you understand now? Put simply, we'll suppress the planetary consciousness inside me, and I'll transmit pure power to Kazuki..."
"This is the best plan we have."
Uchiha Izuna stared at Tobirama, unblinking. "If you go through with this, you'll most likely die. You could very well be the only shinobi who doesn't make it back after the victory... You realize that, right? If your consciousness is shattered and even your soul is destroyed..."
Izuna's voice was low and steady. "Not even Kazuki would be able to bring you back."
Tobirama actually let out a faint smile. "So what? What's the big deal?"
"Do you think Kazuki, when he sealed Kaguya and transferred his precious life force and ocular power to me—then sank into a coffin at the bottom of the ocean—thought he'd survive?"
"Life and death mean little in the bond between Kazuki and me."
Izuna froze for a moment—then suddenly burst into laughter. "Senju Tobirama… I never thought I'd see the day you'd go this far for an Uchiha! And I never thought an Uchiha would go this far for you!"
Then he straightened his expression, eyes solemn. "Alright. I agree."
"But—one problem. How exactly am I supposed to release Kanrō on you? Do I need to use Rewriting Seal to store the technique inside me ahead of time?"
Without hesitation, Tobirama removed his own eyes and placed them in his palm.
"Give me yours. If we only use Rewriting Seal, the technique's effect will be greatly diminished."
Izuna was stunned.
Wait a minute—what are you, my brother now?! You're seriously asking to swap eyes with me?
But Tobirama had already plucked out his Mangekyō Sharingan.
How could he say no to that?
If he backed down now, Tobirama would never let him live it down—and more importantly, this wasn't the time for pride or hesitation. This was about the fate of the shinobi world.
Gritting his teeth, Uchiha Izuna stared at Tobirama—
And took the Mangekyō he once hated most, fitting them into his own eyes.
Uchiha Izuna watched as Senju Tobirama fitted in his Mangekyō Sharingan, his heart a storm of conflicting emotions.
This man had once been his most hated enemy. How had they come to the point of swapping eyes like brothers?
Perhaps... that was just the strange way life worked.
Damn it. This bastard's eyes are actually pretty good... Why do they feel even stronger than my original dōjutsu?
Izuna grumbled to himself in silence. Could this be the power of "All Things in Nature"? Just like what happened with my brother and Senju Hashirama...
The thought of Uchiha Madara made him feel a little better. At least he hadn't gone so far as to embed Tobirama's face in his chest like Madara had done with Hashirama's.
If Tobirama's face ever ended up on his chest...
Izuna would have no choice but to kill himself. That would be beyond unbearable.
Tobirama was having a similar experience.
Izuna's eyes felt like they were filling some hidden void in his bloodline...
"Let's go. We need to find Mito, Madara, and my brother. I want their help with designing the formation I mentioned. It's no simple jutsu—and we need their full support."
Tobirama patted Izuna on the shoulder. "It's time to act."
...
In the depths of the ocean—
Kazuki was still searching for the remains of the Ōtsutsuki God.
Suddenly, the sound of coins echoed in his mind.
