Chapter 408 408: Everybody's Crazy Except Me (Probably)
Kazuki's intelligence—the threat of pursuing Ōtsutsuki, the God of the Ōtsutsuki, the planetary consciousness, and his plan to sacrifice himself—was all transmitted directly into Uchiha Izuna's mind.
"Wh-What the…?"
Izuna's eyes flew wide open.
The sheer amount of information was staggering—and the importance of each detail forced him to analyze them one by one.
"Take your time. Sort through it," Tobirama said with a sigh.
A few moments later, Izuna snapped, "That damned Sage of Six Paths! Does that bastard think we're playing house? It's revolting!"
"You know what? His worldview, his 'grand strategy'—it reminds me of your disciple, Shimura Danzō. Strip away the power, and they're practically the same damn person!"
"One thinks becoming Hokage makes him the savior of everything; the other thinks the world will find peace if everyone just follows his blueprint. Neither of them has the self-awareness to know their own damn limits!"
Izuna might not have been familiar with Sarutobi Hiruzen, but after capturing the soul of Shimura Danzō, he knew Tobirama's disciple all too well…
The Sage of Six Paths—foolish and arrogant—even if he was finally doing something useful under Kazuki's oppressive pressure, just watching him drag the shinobi world through a thousand years of wasted ideology and half-baked actions…
Uchiha Izuna could feel his blood pressure skyrocket on the spot.
Senju Tobirama gave him a puzzled glance.
He had every reason to suspect that Izuna was actually insulting him.
Tobirama sighed helplessly and shook his head, choosing not to comment on it further.
After all, he himself thought the Sage of Six Paths wasn't even as competent as Sarutobi Hiruzen. So comparing him to Shimura Danzō as well wasn't entirely unreasonable…
Left Danzō, right Hiruzen… the Sage might as well start calling them "Sensei."
"What about Kazuki?"
After cursing the Sage to his heart's content, Izuna locked eyes with Tobirama and asked slowly, "Earlier, when you asked whether I could seal consciousness—what exactly are you planning?"
"You're worried that after Kazuki sacrifices himself, the planetary consciousness and the God of the Ōtsutsuki won't be destroyed with him—that some part of them might remain?"
"Senju Tobirama…"
Izuna narrowed his eyes, his tone slightly heated.
"Are you really planning to let Kazuki shoulder this entire burden for the shinobi world alone?"
Granted, Izuna hadn't had much personal interaction with Kazuki…
But he knew—it was Kazuki who had protected the Uchiha clan. Without him, the Uchiha might've withered away within Konoha long ago… or worse, been completely wiped out by Tobirama's two monstrous disciples.
That debt alone was enough for Izuna to feel a deep sense of gratitude.
If Kazuki were to sacrifice himself on top of everything else…
Then as a Uchiha—and as a man—Izuna would find continuing to live nothing short of disgraceful, shameful, utterly contemptible.
The honor of the Uchiha clan was real. It meant something.
"What the hell are you thinking?" Tobirama suddenly said, his words striking like lightning.
"Kazuki's already done more than enough for the shinobi world. The sheer ugliness of human nature… it's gotten to the point where the only way for this world to unite was for him to become the villain."
"If Kazuki even dares try to sacrifice himself for the shinobi world—I won't allow it!"
"When I asked whether Kanrō could seal consciousness, what I was really planning… was to set up a large-scale sealing formation in advance—one powerful enough to fight the planetary consciousness head-on!"
Senju Tobirama spoke slowly: "Although Ōtsutsuki Kaguya agreed to use heavy particle mode to weaken the consciousness of the Ōtsutsuki God… she's still the mother of the Sage of Six Paths. We can't place our hopes on her."
"That entire family is untrustworthy."
Uchiha Izuna nodded slightly.
"Agreed… I don't know how Kazuki managed to convince Kaguya, but even if she truly means to help…"
"I still agree with you—anyone related to the Sage of Six Paths is a risk."
"If we're going to fight against a consciousness, the first component we need is your dōjutsu—Kanrō—to seal it. The second is my Ame-no-Iwato and Wakatsuki, which can resist mental influence and strike at consciousness within a seal."
Tobirama pressed his fingers to his temple.
"What about your brother's dōjutsu? If I'm not mistaken, it boosts the power of ninjutsu, right? That might be useful as well…"
"Oh, and there's Shisui… Kagutsuhane can draw out a person's full potential—could work as a substitute for the Eight Gates in forced activation."
Izuna paused for a moment, caught off guard.
Why was Tobirama suddenly bringing up Uchiha Madara's dōjutsu?
"…Seriously, you really do know everything, don't you?"
Izuna shook his head helplessly, then said in a deep voice: "Senju Tobirama… you're not actually thinking of fighting the planetary consciousness, are you? No matter how strong we are, none of us has reached the Six Path-level yet…"
"What exactly are you planning?"
Tobirama gave a cold smile.
"Our dōjutsu alone obviously isn't enough. But this world still has its shinobi… its summoning beasts… its plants and trees, doesn't it?"
"If you want to enjoy what the world offers, then you must also be willing to give back. That's the fairest truth there is."
At that moment, Uchiha Izuna felt a wave of energy radiate from Senju Tobirama—an aura so intense it could only be described as… wicked.
It made his skin crawl.
"You... what are you trying to do?!"
Uchiha Izuna narrowed his eyes uneasily. He had originally assumed that Senju Tobirama's descent into madness was because he was struggling with the idea of sacrificing Kazuki...
But now it seemed—
This wasn't about sacrificing Kazuki at all. It was about sacrificing the entire shinobi world for Kazuki!
At that realization—
Uchiha Izuna felt a pounding headache.
He couldn't understand why he was always surrounded by lunatics intent on destroying the world... From his elder brother Uchiha Madara, to the successor he raised, Uchiha Obito, and now even his greatest rival had turned out like this...
Izuna began to doubt—
Was his dōjutsu really Kanrō? Maybe it was actually some technique that drove people insane…
"You want to use all the living beings in the shinobi world as energy to fuel the planetary consciousness? Are you trying to activate the Infinite Tsukuyomi?!"
Izuna rubbed his temples. "I get it, I get how much Kazuki means to you... but calm down first. Kazuki is trying to protect the shinobi world, not pillage it like the Ōtsutsuki!"
"Of course I'm not doing that," Tobirama shook his head.
Izuna's expression eased slightly—"That'd be far too simple. There's not nearly enough chakra..."
Tobirama said coldly, "With the current quality of shinobi, how much chakra could they possibly provide even if you lumped them all together?"
"A hundred thousand shinobi sounds like a lot, but how many Tailed Beasts does that amount to? Would that even be close to one Ten-Tails?"
Izuna opened his mouth to speak but held back.
It sounded like Tobirama wasn't planning to sacrifice the shinobi world after all… though not because it was wrong, but because the chakra yield wasn't worth the trouble.
This bastard… might actually be too extreme!
"Then… what exactly do you want to do?" Izuna asked impatiently, waving a hand as he stared at Tobirama—who now had the exact same Mangekyō Sharingan as him.
"Stop being so damn cryptic. Since you've already told me all this about Kazuki, it means you want my help."
"So just say it straight, Senju Tobirama..."
But at that moment, Tobirama fell silent. "Let me think..."
Izuna gave a slight nod, not pressing him.
He understood.
After all, Tobirama had only just learned about Kazuki's situation—practically at the same time as Izuna, mere moments before he pushed the door open…
It was understandable that, under such an emotional shock, Tobirama would temporarily fall into such extremes.
Back during the Warring States Era, whenever someone close to him was killed in battle, Izuna too would have terrifying thoughts arise...
But all it took was a bit of calm to bring himself back.
Tobirama just needed some time to collect himself—to let his emotions and reasoning settle back into balance.
Kazuki can't be sacrificed… But if the enemy really is that strong… are we really going to let a single Uchiha descendant bear the burden of the entire shinobi world alone?
Tobirama was deep in thought—and so was Izuna, trying to figure out what could be done...
But the more he thought about it, the heavier Izuna's heart grew. A quiet despair began to take root.
He realized that Kazuki's reckless ambition to claim two supreme powers wasn't just a reckless whim—it was a desperate move made after considering everything.
There's Nowhere Left to Go.
The shinobi world had run out of options.
The resources that existed within it were no longer enough for Kazuki to ascend—to reach a higher tier of power.
If even the Eighth Gate couldn't bring victory, then the only path left was to turn toward those terrifying forces: the planetary consciousness, or the discarded shell of the Ōtsutsuki God.
There was no road forward!
So what else could they do?
They had no choice but to gamble it all!
With that thought, a wave of bitter frustration and helpless rage welled up in Uchiha Izuna's heart.
He was no longer that fierce warrior who once commanded the winds of the shinobi world. Now, he felt like nothing more than a helpless child, hiding behind Kazuki and watching him charge onto the battlefield alone—praying in silence for his victory...
'I'm not a child. I'm not a woman!'
Killing intent slowly surged in Izuna's eyes. Just like Senju Tobirama, whose blood-soaked eyes brimmed with anguish, his heart burned with fury.
If he really ended up cowering behind a younger shinobi—watching Kazuki carry the weight of peace alone...
Then what right did he have, as a senior member of the Uchiha clan and the lifelong critic of Tobirama's corrupted Will of Fire, to keep living in shame?
