Chapter 60: Ch-60: Call me Miss Litlih
[Earth Server Announcement]
Every player who was in the game paused upon seeing this sudden notification.
"Could it be?" Victor’s eyes narrowed when he thought of something, and his expression instantly turned serious
.
[First World Event Announcement]
"It really is?" Victor mumbled as he was hit by a wave of nostalgia. At the beginning of the game, there were world events, which were a special type of quest where all the players unite to complete the objective—for example, teaming up to kill a boss or defend a territory against waves of enemies, and those with the highest contribution would receive rewards from the Akashic Records.
"I wonder what the event—...What?" Victor’s eyes nearly popped out of their sockets when he saw the next text that had appeared, and his eyebrows started twitching.
[Event Details: In a week, the members of the criminal organization, the Black Church, will attack the Silvernum Barony. Go to the Silvernum Barony and meet the Baron to receive the special defense quest. Players can team up with other players and form a group or enter as part of a guild; in this case, the total contribution will be counted as a group, and the leader will receive the reward. Hence, it is recommended to form a team, as members will also receive a huge amount of experience for their efforts from the Akashic Records. Note: You could receive additional rewards from the NPC Baron.]
"Damn, the event is to defend my territory!!!" Victor exclaimed in shock as he read the description. He was silent for a moment and then said, while rubbing his chin, "Maybe it’s not a bad thing. Even though they are not strong enough, they can surely serve as cannon fodder, and maybe I will add some juicy rewards to motivate them."
Victor was already planning rewards to motivate them, as without proper incentives, even a cat won’t chase a mouse properly.
Victor then opened the global player chat, and sure enough, the internet and player forums were in a frenzy, with everyone discussing the event that would take place in his territory.
Victor saw many players posting advertisements to join their party, where they were the leader, and in exchange would offer millions of dollars in real life.
Victor then closed the player forum and stopped reading the comments. Then he frowned as a new problem arose which he had completely overlooked. "If I use my Primordial Lightning powers, wouldn’t the players discover that I and Frost Eye are the same person?"
Victor wanted to keep these two identities separate for the time being, and for as long as he could, as he wanted his Frost Eye persona to cause trouble for players and other NPCs of the kingdom.
Then he thought of two ways he could keep it a secret. First of all, he could use the players and have them killed while using them as cannon fodder to probe the enemy, and second, he could build the defense system within 7 days, which he was confident about thanks to Lilith, and weaken and injure the members of the Black Church first, then end their lives using just normal lightning. If he used normal lightning, no one would suspect a thing, as lightning compared to his Primordial Lightning is not unique, and other NPCs also have lightning Warlock bloodlines.
"I will do both," Victor mumbled as he then turned to look at Lilith, who was zooming around the room like a child. He sighed in relief—even though she was playing, she did not neglect her work.
"Lilith," Victor said. The cat stopped and walked toward him.
"Yes, sir, Victor," Lilith said as she looked at him with a tilted head.
"I want you to quickly start building the defense system around the Silvernum Barony, and how long do you think it will take for you to complete it?" Victor asked curiously, which caused Lilith to frown a bit.
"One defense system should be able to cover the entire Silvernum Territory, so I think I could finish it within 5 days," Lilith said after calculating it in her head.
"Good," Victor said and looked at Lilith, who seemed to want to say something but was hesitating. "Do you want something, Lilith?"
"Sir Victor, may I have permission to roam the territory? Even if I am far away, I can still control the robots," Lilith said, looking at Victor with expectation.
"..." Victor was speechless for a moment, then nodded his head, and Lilith followed Victor to the training grounds. Her eyes darted everywhere as, being a newborn AI, she was curious about everything.
------
"Young Lord Victor, when did you get a pet?" Edward, who saw Victor coming to the training grounds, was surprised when he saw a black cat walking by his side.
"How rude, I am not a mere cat," Lilith said, feeling a bit offended.
"What the... the cat talked?" Edward was so surprised that he fell down on his buttocks as he looked at Lilith with bulging eyes. He knew some monsters could speak the human tongue, but this was the first time he had seen a talking cat.
"Lord Victor, how can this black cat talk?" Edward said, as Victor’s lips twitched. He looked at Lilith, who seemed more annoyed at Edward, and she walked toward him and said, "I am not a cat, but a highly intelligent AI cat, and my name is Lilith."
Edward’s eyes bulged out, and he looked at Victor for confirmation, who just nodded. ’Incredible, such an advanced AI.’
Edward stood up and regained his composure and introduced himself, "I am Butler Edward, nice to meet you, Lilith."
"Call me Miss Lilith. Only Sir Victor can call me Lilith—you are a butler; where are your manners?"
"..." Edward
"..." Victor
Veins bulged on Edward’s forehead, and he had the urge to smash the robot into pieces. Even Victor was speechless at her behavior but did not stop her, as he was too curious.
"Miss Lilith," Edward said with a forced smile.
"Good, a mid-tier butler—you need to improve," Lilith said as she walked back to Victor.
’Improve your head, I am a top-tier butler,’ Edward hated it when someone doubted his butler skills, and he had to remind himself this was just an AI—not to get angry with a machine.
