Chapter 126: I’ll keep searching until I find him.
But then again... I kind of have the same story as you, Fred thought inwardly, his fingers tightening slightly around his glass.
I mean, my mother was an omega who gave birth to an omega son like me considered useless in my father’s eyes. He brought another omega woman into our home and impregnated her. She gave birth to an alpha son... the kind of son my father actually wanted.
Fred’s chest tightened at the memory.
I grew up in an orphanage too since I ran away as I couldn’t take it anymore, Damien. I struggled all my life. But I never hated omegas... and I never hated alphas either. Maybe I didn’t hate omegas because I am one. Because my mother was one. But then shouldn’t I hate alphas since my father is one? And yet... I don’t.
Rather than hate anyone, I just left. I left that house the moment they started treating me, my mom and brother like trash. I rather leave than wasting my time with useless people or staining my hands to take revenge when I know they’ll eventually be purnished.
I only went back home when I was chased out of the orphanage and just when I thought everything was going to be fine since my father mistress was gone, my father, mother and brother got into an accident and died.
"There’s nothing for you to be sorry about, Fred," Damien replied with a heavy sigh, pulling Fred out of his thoughts. "I just... I can’t forget everything. Not when that man and his daughter are still alive, still breathing comfortably somewhere."
His jaw tightened.
"So I hope you understand me now? Do you understand the reason why I’m like this?"
"I do understand you Damien," Fred replied seriously, lifting his gaze to meet Damien’s. "But that’s still not enough reason to hate all omegas."
Damien’s brows drew together slightly.
"Yes, your stepfather treated you like trash," Fred continued firmly, his tone steady despite the alcohol slowly warming his blood. "But that was your stepfather not every other innocent omega in this world who knows nothing about what happened to you. They’re innocent, Damien."
He leaned forward slightly, eyes intent.
"If you want to punish someone, then it should be the one who hurt you. Your stepfather. Not people who had nothing to do with it. And besides I don’t really support you punishing anyone with your own hands. I don’t know for other people but I always believe karma always catch up with the evil ones. It might be late but it always does and if it doesn’t catch up with them, it always catch up with their loved ones. That even stings more badly."
Fred paused before adding more quietly but pointedly, "To me... it feels like you’re attacking the weaker omegas instead of going after the one who’s actually strong....the one who treated you badly."
The words lingered heavily between them.
Damien exhaled slowly, staring into his glass as though searching for answers in the cloudy mixture.
"Maybe you’re right," he admitted after a moment, his voice lower now. "I’ve thought about it before. Especially after that night... when I had sex with that omega."
"Huh?" Fred raised an eyebrow, despite the slight haze forming in his head. Even tipsy, his interest sharpened immediately.
Now what is he talking about? Fred thought inwardly as he swallowed hard.
The alcohol shouldn’t have hit them this hard. Damien had mixed yogurt into the wine, after all. But neither of them had stopped at one glass. They kept refilling, talking, pouring, drinking until the warmth had settled deeply into their veins and blurred the edges of their restraint.
"That night changed something in me, Fred," Damien continued with a light, self-deprecating chuckle. "I thought that omega was weak. I drugged him to lure him out."
Fred’s fingers tightened around his glass.
"And yet... he still came to save me. He saved me by sleeping with me," Damien went on, his voice quieter now. "To me... it felt like I was the omega and he was the alpha."
He gave a small, bitter smile.
"I felt like the weak one. And he was the strong one."
Damien swallowed.
"Despite what I did to him... despite how I drugged him and other omegas too and he knew about it... he still didn’t despise me. He didn’t curse me for being an alpha. He didn’t leave me there to suffer."
Fred swallowed hard.
"Oh..." he murmured. "Maybe he just didn’t want you to die. Not everyone love to see people die before them."
"He could have left me," Damien insisted, his voice thick with emotion. "He could have walked away and let me die. No one would have caught him. No one would have blamed him either."
He shook his head slowly.
"But he didn’t."
Damien looked almost lost now.
"That one act of kindness made him the strong one... and me the weak one Fred."
He turned fully toward Fred, his movements slightly unsteady from the alcohol. His hands reached out, gently cradling Fred’s face between his palms.
Fred froze.
"I really want to see that omega again," Damien murmured, his eyes glistening faintly. "I want to know what he looks like. I want to thank him. I want to make it up to him."
His thumb brushed faintly against Fred’s cheek.
"Because truth be told... he changed me."
"Oh... I see..." Fred replied, his throat suddenly dry. He swallowed hard, heart pounding against his ribs. "And what if he never shows up?"
Damien blinked slowly.
"I mean," Fred continued carefully, forcing himself to sound logical, "just because he showed you kindness doesn’t mean he’d want to stay by your side. It doesn’t mean he’d want you to know him... or let you thank him. He might not need that."
"If he doesn’t show up," Damien replied, his tone turning firm despite the alcohol clouding his senses, "then I’ll keep searching until I find him."
His gaze dropped to Fred’s lips briefly before returning to his eyes.
"And when I see him..." Damien added softly, a faint smile curving at the corner of his mouth, "I’ll kiss him."
Fred’s breath hitched.
"Like this."
Before Fred could react, Damien leaned forward and pressed his lips against Fred’s.
