Chapter 125: A reason I hate Omegas.
Fred watched silently as Damien poured the red wine into two glasses. Without a word, Damien opened a small container of yogurt and added a portion into each glass, stirring gently until the mixture blended smoothly.
He handed one of the glasses to Fred.
Fred hesitated for only a second before accepting it. The glass felt cold against his palm. He studied the drink briefly before bringing it to his lips.
"Did you know about Alex’s proposal?" Fred asked after taking a cautious sip. The wine, mixed with yogurt, tasted surprisingly smooth....tangy yet rich.
Damien chuckled softly and shook his head.
"I didn’t," he admitted, leaning back into his seat. "Alex has always been full of surprises. But even I didn’t expect something that grand. Who would have thought he’d actually propose to Gabe like that?"
He swirled the glass in his hand, watching the liquid move in slow circles.
"And it wasn’t just some private confession either," Damien continued. "It was written across giant billboards. Digital screens. It even made it onto several news channels. The entire city probably knows by now."
Fred raised a curious eyebrow, clearly intrigued.
"Just how rich is Alex exactly?" he asked, tilting his head slightly. "To be able to pull off something like that overnight... that’s not just wealth. That’s influence."
Damien’s lips curved into a faint smile, though his gaze drifted somewhere distant, as if lost in thought.
"When you truly love someone," he said quietly, "you’ll go through miles just to prove it. Money just makes the process louder. But even if you’re poor, if your heart is set on someone, you’ll still find a way to show it. Love makes people do unimaginable things."
He lifted his glass and took a slow sip before releasing a soft, wistful chuckle.
"I wish I could propose to someone like that someday," Damien added, his tone growing lighter, almost dreamy. "Imagine standing before the person you love and showing them, in front of the whole world, that you choose them... and only them. It would be beautiful."
He paused briefly, staring into his glass.
"Alex has already found his true love, after all," he murmured. "It’s only right that I find mine too."
Fred snorted softly, breaking the fragile softness in the air.
"But you hate omegas, don’t you?" he asked bluntly, arching a brow. "Or has that changed overnight?"
The atmosphere shifted instantly.
Damien’s fingers tightened around the stem of his glass. His knuckles turned pale as something darker replaced the warmth in his expression.
"There’s a reason," Damien said after a long silence, his voice lower now. He swallowed before continuing. "A reason I hate omegas."
Fred straightened slightly in his seat, his earlier teasing gone. Curiosity and concern flashed across his face as he took another slow sip, eyes never leaving Damien’s.
"And what exactly is that reason?" he asked quietly, his tone serious now.
"Uh... well..." Damien began, only to falter. He let out a heavy sigh and rubbed a hand over his face. "I don’t even know where to start."
"Start anywhere," Fred replied gently but firmly. He leaned forward slightly, elbows resting on his knees. "I’m here. I’m listening."
Damien stared at the drink in his hand for several seconds before finally speaking.
"I suppose... I see omegas as home destroyers," he said slowly, his voice steady but strained. "And before you say anything, I know how that sounds."
He inhaled deeply.
"My birth father...the one who gave birth to me was an omega," Damien continued. "He was my entire world. Gentle. Kind. He loved me more than anything. But he died... because of another omega."
Fred’s eyes widened slightly, but he remained silent.
"My alpha father brought another omega into our home," Damien went on, his jaw tightening. "He bought him home like he was some kind of possession. That omega came with a daughter... a bastard child."
He let out a bitter laugh that held no humor.
"I watched as my stepfather tortured my birth father. Day after day. Right in front of me. I was just a child, Fred. A child who couldn’t do anything but watch."
His voice cracked slightly, and he quickly looked away.
"They tortured us both," he continued more quietly. "But my birth father endured the worst of it. And despite everything... my alpha father turned a blind eye. He pretended not to see. He chose that omega over us. Over his own mate. Over his own child."
The room felt suffocatingly silent.
"I had to run away eventually," Damien said, blinking rapidly as he fought back tears. "I couldn’t survive there anymore. I ended up in an orphanage. And the moment I turned eighteen, they kicked me out. Just like that. No support. No family. Nothing."
He laughed again, but this time it trembled.
"Life has been hell for me, Fred. I had to build everything from scratch with the help of Alex who I eventually met at one point in life. I had to survive on my own because my father chose someone else over me. When my birth father died, that omega and his daughter took everything....the properties, the inheritance. Everything that should have been mine."
Damien’s grip on the glass tightened so much it seemed it might shatter.
"I haven’t even gotten justice for my birth father yet," he whispered. "So tell me... how am I supposed to like omegas? When the only memories I have of them are pain, betrayal, and destruction?"
His eyes were glossy now, tears clinging stubbornly to his lashes as he fought to maintain composure.
"I know it’s not logical," he admitted hoarsely. "I know not all omegas are the same. But every time I see one... I remember my father dying. I remember being helpless. I remember being abandoned. I just can’t help but to despise them all."
"Oh... I’m so sorry about that, Damien," Fred began softly, swallowing hard as he tried to process everything he had just heard.
