I Returned to the Day He Brought His First Love Home

Chapter 161: She Doesn’t Seem to Be Into You

"What... what did you say?" Wendy Quinn sank to the floor in despair.

She never imagined Archer Rhys could be so heartless.

He showed no regard for their past relationship.

He was actually going to destroy the Quinn family.

"Even if my father did something wrong, he was forced into it back then! He had no choice! Why are you doing this to him? Your parents are already dead. Will you only be satisfied when I’ve lost my parents too, just like you?" Wendy Quinn shrieked, burying her face in her hands.

Grace Winslow had never seen someone so shameless. She couldn’t stop herself from reminding her, "Wendy Quinn, your father murdered his parents. He’s the man who killed his mother and father. How can you say something like that with a straight face?"

"It seems this kind of behavior really runs in your family."

"Shut up! This has nothing to do with you! If you hadn’t shamelessly seduced Archer, none of this would be happening! The Quinns and the Rhys family have always been on great terms. Grandpa Rhys has always adored me. I even went to see him recently, and he was clearly..." Wendy Quinn screamed at Grace Winslow, her eyes red.

"You went to see my grandfather?" Archer Rhys’s gaze was cold enough to cause frostbite.

Wendy Quinn flinched, too afraid to answer.

"So it was you. No wonder my grandfather suddenly collapsed. The doctor said he was recovering well and would be fine as long as he wasn’t agitated. But then he was suddenly subjected to intense stress and barely survived!" Archer Rhys took a step forward, his face cold as he glared at Wendy Quinn. "Your father is a murderer who killed my parents, and you nearly killed my grandfather. And you... you still have the gall to try and marry me?"

"Are you worthy?"

"Perfect. A family should stick together. Since you’re guilty of attempted murder, you can go keep your father company in prison."

"Take her away!"

The moment Archer finished speaking, two guards entered from outside the classroom and moved to grab Wendy Quinn.

Wendy Quinn struggled violently. "No! You can’t do this to me!"

"What did I do wrong? I didn’t do anything! Why should I have to pay for the mistakes of the previous generation?"

"Am I wrong? Your grandfather was the one who arranged the engagement! Even if my grandfather broke it off, couldn’t your family have insisted on it?"

"I’ve already humbled myself and offered to marry you! Why can’t you just say yes?"

Archer couldn’t be bothered to waste any more words on her. "Take her away!"

"If she keeps spouting nonsense, gag her!"

The guards didn’t dare to hesitate and promptly dragged Wendy Quinn away.

The rest of the class had just watched the entire drama unfold and still hadn’t quite processed it.

They never expected Wendy Quinn to be this kind of person.

At first, they had actually believed Wendy Quinn, thinking Grace Winslow had shamelessly seduced her fiancé.

Only now did they know the truth.

’Her family killed his parents, and the fact that Archer didn’t kill her entire family already shows his good upbringing. Yet she still had the nerve to try and marry into his family, and even nearly scared his grandfather to death.’

"How could Wendy Quinn be like that? I really thought she’d been horribly wronged!"

"Exactly! What do you expect from the daughter of a murderer?"

"Grace, we’re so sorry. We were all fooled by Wendy Quinn. We thought you really... I’m sorry. We shouldn’t have jumped to conclusions and misunderstood you."

"We’re sorry, Grace. Please forgive us."

A few classmates came over, looking embarrassed, and apologized to Grace.

Grace shook her head.

She had no intention of holding it against them.

It really had nothing to do with them in the first place.

None of this would have happened if Wendy Quinn hadn’t started those malicious rumors to slander her.

"I told you Grace wasn’t that kind of person," Joanne Chase said, her eyes red. She had just been arguing heatedly with a few people and had almost gotten into a fight.

Normally a woman of few words, she had never been so worked up before.

She was thrilled to see the rumors about Grace finally cleared up.

"All right, everything has been cleared up. Let’s get back to class. We’ve already wasted over an hour," Claire Dunn said coldly, rapping on the lectern.

It was clear there would be no proper lesson today.

Archer left with his men without disturbing Grace.

Claire Dunn lectured the class about the incident for half an hour, until her mouth was dry.

After she finished, she called Grace over to her desk and gave her a few more words of advice.

Grace glanced at the time with a helpless expression.

’Great,’ she thought. ’Thanks to Wendy Quinn’s little drama, I’ve missed two periods.’

’Now I have to catch up again.’

After leaving Claire Dunn’s office, Grace immediately rushed to her next class.

In the distance, Archer watched her energetic and vibrant figure, a smile involuntarily touching his lips.

The middle-aged man beside him glanced in Grace’s direction, looking puzzled. "So that’s the girl you like?"

"Yeah." Archer nodded, a rare smile gracing his features.

"She’s certainly different from the girls back at the compound. But it looks to me like she’s not interested in you at all. She didn’t even spare you a glance just now." The man shot Archer a look, his words hitting right where it hurt.

Archer’s smile slowly vanished. He gave the man beside him a cold look. "Uncle, you’re talking too much."

"Grandpa’s condition still requires observation. How long are you planning to stay?"

"You know the nature of my work. I only managed to get three days of leave this time. I have to go back tomorrow. You’ll have to keep a close eye on your grandfather. Call me if anything happens, but I can’t promise I’ll be able to make it back," Theodore Rhys said, shaking his head with a look of resignation.

"I know it’s not easy for you to get away. I’ll take good care of Grandpa. I won’t let something like that happen again," Archer nodded.

’His uncle’s job was indeed unique; getting time off was next to impossible. The next time he’d be able to come back would likely be... unless Grandpa really passed away, he probably wouldn’t be able to get leave again.’

"Are you heading back to your unit soon, too? This quest of yours to win her over... it’s looking pretty tough." Theodore couldn’t resist teasing Archer. "Weren’t you much more confident when you wrote to me?"

Archer’s face darkened. "Hmph. If it weren’t for the Quinns, I’d be a lot closer to succeeding."

"But it doesn’t matter. I have plenty of time. I’ll wait for her. If she wants to wait until after she graduates to date, I’ll wait. If she wants to work for a few years first, I’ll wait a few more years."

"Either way, she’s the one for me. I don’t want anyone else."

"And if I can’t have her, I’ll be a bachelor for life. Just like you." Archer added, shooting a pointed look at Theodore.

The smile on Theodore’s face vanished.

He shot Archer a cold look, then turned and walked away without another word.

But Archer broke into a grin.

’A jab for a jab. Perfectly fair.’
