Chapter 173: Not for Him
A life was on the line, and with Su Wei accompanying her, no one dared to stand in Ye Chutang’s way.
She followed the young maidservant deeper inside. As they passed through the central courtyard, she saw blood splattered on the ground.
A violent conflict had clearly erupted here a short time ago. Su Pei’er must have been injured because of it.
Ye Chutang quickened her pace.
「...」
Inside, Ye Heng was pacing back and forth, filled with agitation.
Hearing footsteps outside, he immediately looked up, only to see the last face he wanted to see.
"Ye Chutang!?" Ye Heng’s brows knitted together.
’How did she get here so fast!?’
However, Ye Chutang merely gave him a slight nod before heading toward the inner room, as if unwilling to waste any time on him.
Just as Ye Heng started to follow, he heard Ye Chutang’s voice.
"Close the door. Everyone not involved, please leave."
BANG—!
The young maidservant slammed the door shut!
The door nearly hit Ye Heng in the face. He hastily stepped back, his expression shifting.
"Ye Chutang! This is the Han Family’s residence! What do you think you’re doing!?"
There was no response from inside, but a voice from behind him sent a chill down his spine:
"I’d also like to ask Lord Ye, what is all this commotion about?"
Ye Heng spun around in disbelief. "Lo-Lord Su!?"
’Ye Chutang came with him!?’
’But... how could the two of them possibly be involved with each other?’
Ye Heng couldn’t fathom it, but now was not the time for such questions.
Su Wei glanced around, surveying the scene, before speaking in a mild tone. "I would have thought that with everything Lord Ye has been through recently, you’d be utterly exhausted. I certainly didn’t expect you’d still have the energy to meddle in the Han Family’s private matters."
Hearing this, Ye Heng’s heart skipped a beat.
Su Wei had always been at odds with him. After what happened today, Ye Heng knew Su Wei would never let this matter drop so easily.
He forced a smile. "Lord Su, you exaggerate. I only came today out of respect for my old friendship with Han Tong. I came specifically to check on Han Yao, lest he become agitated and do something foolish—"
"I thought he had already fainted?" Su Wei said, his words laced with insinuation. "Since he’s unconscious, Lord Ye surely has no need to worry about him doing anything."
Ye Heng could clearly hear the sarcasm in his words, but he didn’t dare confront Su Wei and could only swallow his anger.
「...」
"Miss! Doctor Ye is here!"
The young maidservant hurried over, tears streaming down her face again.
Su Pei’er’s face was deathly pale. She turned her head slightly at the sound of the voice.
"...Doctor Ye, you’ve finally come..."
Ye Chutang stepped forward to examine Su Pei’er’s wound, her brow furrowing slightly.
’This wound... it really looks like she was trying to kill herself.’
The flesh was torn open, dripping with fresh blood.
’If it had been just a little bit different, her life would have been forfeit.’
"Was it worth doing this for Han Yao?"
But Su Pei’er slowly smiled, a faint curve appearing on her pale lips.
"I... didn’t do it for him..."
Ye Chutang froze.
The next moment, she felt something pressed into her hand.
Ye Chutang was taken aback. The instant their eyes met, a single tear slid from the corner of Su Pei’er’s eye, yet the smile gracing her features slowly widened.
"Doctor Ye... you must save Mr. Han..."
「...」
Time ticked by slowly. Ye Heng was on pins and needles.
Finally, the door opened, and Ye Chutang emerged.
Ye Heng shot to his feet, but to his surprise, Ye Chutang spoke first.
"Where is Han Yao now?"
