Chapter 122: These Are Not Deities, but a Plague
’This Rainbow Welfare Institute is truly bizarre. It can even cloud my Primordial Spirit Power.’
Chu He was astonished.
From the welfare institute’s design blueprint that had suddenly vanished to Galava’s strange transformation just now, Chu He hadn’t noticed a thing.
"This diary seems to contain some kind of Evil Spirit. Maybe when you read the words in it, the spirit slowly erodes its way into your body," Dean offered his thoughts.
Hearing Dean’s theory, Galava frantically threw the diary back onto the table, then picked up his phone to keep recording his face.
However, the bizarre, bird-like changes didn’t disappear.
"Is this strange invasion irreversible?
Or has the Evil Spirit from the diary already entered my body?"
Galava’s voice was filled with despair.
’If I stay like this forever, how can I possibly live in a human city?’
’I’ll definitely be treated as an outcast and brutally eliminated.’
Besides, his entire face was becoming like that of a strange bird; not even a mask could hide it.
Galava’s pleading gaze fell upon Chu He.
"Let me see."
Chu He picked up the diary from the table.
The section that had just been read had vanished completely. ’Maybe Dean was right. The entire diary is a Curse.’
’When someone picks it up and starts reading the words aloud, they transfer into the reader’s body and begin an invasion.’
"A Rule Level Evil Spirit?!" Anna exclaimed.
"What’s a Rule Level Evil Spirit?"
It was the first time Chu He had ever heard the term.
"It’s a concept for Evil Spirits that’s only been researched recently.
This type of Evil Spirit is vastly different from Disaster Level or Calamity Level ones."
Anna explained, "Its existence is hard to describe with any specific rules. It can be a book, a lamp, or a clock—always an inanimate object.
In my opinion, they’re quite similar to the strange artifacts humans create.
Except these Rule Level Evil Spirits are far more powerful than any human-made artifact.
Just like this diary we found in the director’s office at the Rainbow Welfare Institute."
"I see. In that case, I’ll test just how powerful this Rule Level Evil Spirit really is." Chu He flipped directly to the next page of the diary.
Seeing Chu He about to continue reading from the diary,
Dean, Anna, and the others all looked shocked.
They never expected the guest Galava had invited to be so bold.
But on second thought, Dean and Anna came to a realization.
’This probably isn’t a case of Galava getting lucky,’
’...finding some rich client on the Black Continent Grassland. This man must have another identity.’
However, their intelligence team was just a cooperative partnership. As long as Galava didn’t do anything to harm them, they wouldn’t say anything.
Besides, based on Chu He’s actions,
Chu He must be incredibly powerful. That’s why Galava’s first reaction, when faced with a strange problem he couldn’t solve,
was to look to Chu He, hoping for help.
’Is Chu He an expert Galava hired?’
"The world is starting to become abnormal. On the bridge in the west of the city, tens of thousands of people lined up and jumped into the river one by one. With tens of thousands of bodies jumping into that winding river, it should have been enough to dam it completely, yet not a single body floated to the surface. This completely subverts my understanding of science."
"I opened a welfare institute and began my research into the Deities here, only to unexpectedly discover that this isn’t about Deities at all. It’s a plague, a cataclysm for humanity."
Reading this, Chu He couldn’t help but wonder,
’If he doesn’t think they’re Deities, why describe it as a plague?’
The next sentence in the diary provided the answer.
"The reason I call it a plague is that this cataclysm is contagious. Many people in the welfare institute have turned into so-called Deities. So, could it be that the very first Deities were also transformed from humans?"
"This welfare institute is a front. Its real purpose was to research the origin of Evil Spirits. Perhaps all the secrets are truly hidden in this diary,"
Dean said.
He looked ecstatic.
If the contents of this diary were to leak, it would undoubtedly cause a global sensation.
And with the information from this diary, their intelligence-selling team could surely earn a fortune so vast it couldn’t be spent in three lifetimes.
However, Dean wasn’t so excited that he lost his reason.
He knew just as well that with their strength, they weren’t nearly powerful enough to protect the diary’s contents. In fact, they would likely attract the covetous eyes of countless individuals and factions!p>
"Today, my head is spinning, and black, leathery patches have started to appear on my skin. Why is my face starting to look more and more like a bird’s?"
As Chu He read this passage, everyone, including him, Dean, and Anna, fixed their eyes on Galava.
Could the Evil Spirit in the diary be connected to the director of this Rainbow Welfare Institute?
Or perhaps, the Evil Spirit in the diary *was* the director of the Rainbow Welfare Institute?
Just then, the words in the diary vanished at an astonishing speed. Finally, flames erupted from it, and the terrifying heat incinerated the book in an instant.
"My mind is suddenly flooded with information! I think it’s the contents of the diary.
The Evil Spirit from the diary transferred all the information to me!"
Galava clutched his head. The sudden influx of massive amounts of information made his brain throb with pain.
BOOM!
The entire Rainbow Welfare Institute shuddered violently, as if something had burst through a wall with a massive impact.
Immediately after, a fluctuation of Elemental Power erupted outside the office.
"Is someone fighting an Evil Spirit?"p>
Dean and Anna put some distance between themselves and Galava.
Because they weren’t sure if Galava’s mind was still in a normal human state,
or if his body had been taken over by the Evil Spirit.
The Evil Spirit from the diary was extremely strange; they had to be on their guard.
Chu He walked to the window and pushed it open.
A figure stood there abruptly.
Its silhouette, huge and distorted in the shifting light and shadows, looked like something from a nightmare that had silently invaded reality.
That figure... no, to be more precise, it was a powerfully built, extraordinarily large humanoid monster, standing perfectly still.
Its mouth was like a massive, unparalleled abyss, occupying almost the entire space of its face.
The mouth was open so wide that Chu He could almost glimpse the dark depths of its throat.
There, rows upon rows of teeth were packed together like thorns in a forest, sharp and dense.
At a rough estimate, there were probably several thousand of them, each one glinting with a chilling light.
Even more terrifying, the monster’s mouth seemed to be perpetually dripping.
A long tongue, like a slimy serpent, would occasionally dart out from between its teeth. It was covered in a greasy slime, and every flick was accompanied by a soft but distinctly audible slapping sound that made one’s blood run cold.
The monster suddenly trembled, enraged by Chu He’s gaze. Its horrifying maw opened even wider as it let out a low, terrifying roar.
