Chapter 1069 - 792: Dumbledore’s New Nickname (3)
Although not fully recovered yet, it was at least much more comfortable than earlier.
But Ron, having thrown up everything from his mouth, naturally didn’t feel like this.
The two of them glared angrily at each other across Harry at the dining table.
However, their antics somewhat relieved the tense atmosphere at the dining table, and everyone wasn’t as nervous as before.
"Today was truly thrilling," Kingsley was the first to speak, "If we had known this would happen, we shouldn’t have returned to the Ministry of Magic earlier."
"It’s because we didn’t expect it," Sirius, having finished a whole bottle of whiskey, was opening a second one, "I still can’t figure out how they knew Remus and Nymphadora were getting married, we only told a few people, and they were all close to us."
"Maybe someone slipped up," Chris thought for a moment, "Or maybe the Death Eaters were already watching those close to us. Capturing Andromeda and Ted and deducing Godric’s Hollow’s location through their movements isn’t that hard, all it takes is a bottle of Veritaserum or Legilimency."
"We didn’t think it through this time," Lupin lowered his head, "We should have been more cautious."
"No, I bear responsibility too," Sirius said, "After learning Dumbledore was here, I subconsciously let my guard down. If I had been more cautious, I might have detected the Death Eaters earlier."
"No, no, ultimately, we shouldn’t have left early..."
The group at the table shared the responsibility.
But in Kael’s view, ultimately, it was Dumbledore’s fault; he made an appearance, gave others the illusion of protection, and then sneaked away silently.
This irresponsible behavior, blaming Dumbledore a bit is fair.
"And you, Kael!" Sirius suddenly turned and said, causing Kael to instinctively look over.
"Why did you have the Phoenix take me away first?" His eyes were slightly red, "You told Fred that Dumbledore had the Phoenix save everyone, but I don’t believe it."
"I..."
"No need to explain, I could tell it was you directing the Phoenix. It’s because of your command that it came back to grab me."
"No, I..."
"Did you ever think if you didn’t make it back, how guilty I’d feel for letting a child buy me time... What face would I have to see Chris again?"
Interrupted twice, Kael didn’t respond. He waited until Sirius was done speaking, and then he cleared his throat lightly.
"Are you done?"
"Actually, what I wanted to say is, I don’t need the Phoenix’s help; I can Apparate... Remember? When I got you out of the circle."
As he spoke, Kael extended his hand and pointed to the ring on his finger.
However, after using Apparition three times, the ring’s color had become quite dull, and since it was snug on his finger, it was hard to notice without careful inspection.
"That still won’t do," Sirius retorted stubbornly, "I have to stay behind you all."
"Ah, fine," Kael didn’t argue, "Next time, definitely next time."
"Better not have a next time," Chris interjected to smooth things over. He also looked at Kael, with a serious expression, and asked, "So after sending Sirius away, what did you do?"
"Not much," Kael said, "I gave them a little surprise and then left too."
His tone was light and he deliberately concealed the news about Voldemort.
"Surprise?" Chris raised an eyebrow, "Your so-called surprise wasn’t killing all seventy Death Eaters, was it?"
As soon as he finished speaking, the entire dining room fell silent instantly. Everyone looked at Kael in disbelief, even Mrs. Weasley ran out from the kitchen, her pupils contracted as if she had heard something incredibly frightening.
Truth be told, killing Death Eaters wasn’t unheard of for them over ten years ago, they had done it more than once.
But if you raise that number to seventy... no one here except Alastor Moody had done that.
Even Alastor had reached that number over a decades-long career as an Auror.
But Kael, killing seventy Death Eaters in one go, if that were true...
Unconsciously, Ron’s legs began to tremble as he looked at Kael, a physiological reaction unrelated to how well he knew Kael.
"There must be some mistake, Chris," Mrs. Weasley, regaining her senses, said, "Kael is a good boy, how could he possibly..."
"No, Molly..." Mr. Weasley shook his head, "The information we received was that at Godric’s Hollow, all seventy Death Eaters were killed. If I’m not mistaken, Scrimgeour and the Aurors are already there."
"No, this has nothing to do with me," Kael exclaimed innocently, quickly denying, "It wasn’t me."
"But you were the last to leave," Kingsley said.
Since earlier, he had wanted to ask this, but with Chris present, he wasn’t sure how to bring it up.
Now with Chris mentioning it, he took the opportunity to ask, "You were the last, and no one knows what you did."
"But it truly wasn’t me, I swear," Kael raised his wand calmly, "If you don’t believe me, you can use a Magic Contract to verify whether I killed seventy Death Eaters."
"Ah, no need," Kingsley hesitated for a moment, then shook his head, "Believe me, I didn’t mean to interrogate you..."
"Of course, you shouldn’t question him," Mrs. Weasley snapped back to reality and walked briskly over, "Let’s say this, from when I was sent to the Hog’s Head Pub and Kael returned here, there was at most only twenty minutes."
"Do you think Kael could kill seventy Death Eaters in twenty minutes?"
"No, it should actually be fifteen minutes," Sirius added, "That’s when I returned, and even then, the Death Eaters were still chasing us."
"Did you hear that?"
Mrs. Weasley continued, "If Kael could really kill all the Death Eaters in fifteen minutes, would we still need the Phoenix’s help?"
"Just admit it, Kael, you’re destined to become a legend." Fred couldn’t help but chuckle.
"Even Dumbledore will have to call him Little Kael in the future," George said with a laugh.
"No, it should be Old Kael instead."
With that, the two couldn’t hold it in any longer and began to laugh heartily.
...
