Raising Ducks for Daily Rewards

Chapter 99: Leaving the Village

"So... this is the road those couriers always take?" Ling asked while looking at the small road behind the store.

"Seems like it," Ming thought so too, looking rather perplexed at the simplicity of such a road which is supposed to lead to an extremely important city!

"You two are confused, this is just a branch road. Look at the end, it’s starting to curve slightly in another direction." Fengyu corrected them while using his spiritual power to lead the rather large cart filled with over fifty ducks!

Quacking could be heard from among them, their exclamations of surprise no less than the twins.

The two thought it made sense and continued walking down the road.

As expected, when they reached a certain distance, the road in front of them split into three paths:

North, west and east.

The road leading north became larger and had some trees lined up, while those going west and east were rather basic.

There were signs right in front of the three –

"North leads to the Green Plum Peak, East leads to the city in half a day’s journey, while West also leads to the city but with only three hours of journey." Ling read the sign.

"Our village is likely closer to the southwest of the peak. Let’s take the path west," Fengyu took the shortest way, leading his cart in that direction.

The road here was larger and more spacious.

Occasionally they would see couriers walking the path with rapid steps, not delaying for a single moment...

"Senior brother, those couriers... why do they take this job? It seems like such a waste of time," Ming, quiet yet curious, asked Fengyu after seeing a cultivator run by.

"Isn’t it because their talent is low in both paths? Even if you don’t deserve the title of a ’Creation Master’ or ’Battle Master’ you should still have the ability to earn spirit stones.

Without this ability you can only take side jobs like this one to earn a few spirit stones." Fengyu had a clear opinion of this.

Such people had neither intelligence nor production and not even strength. They lacked everything in the path of immortality.

The only reason they reached the late stage was because they had somewhat good spiritual roots.

Their roots too bad to ensure a smooth path, but too good to not focus on cultivation and instead focus on learning something else.

In his opinion such people set the cart before the horse.

Cultivation without profession in anything is just brute power.

How does this make one better than a Wild Beast?

He shook his head, the twins clearly understanding his stance.

Although they didn’t think as badly of them as Fengyu, seeing his behaviour, they kept quiet.

Fengyu naturally knew his view was pragmatic... but after awakening his memories here, he felt more and more that hard work would be rewarded.

Even low talent would still allow you to reach the late stage of Qi Refining by working hard.

After that you can focus on your descendants or disciples, which is also an accomplishment.

But such people who barely got enough spirit stones for their own cultivation... they neither thought of improving the present nor used their time to create a better future. They were even ignorant of the past...

He sighed and said no more.

Just as the sign said, after only three hours, they arrived in front of a huge blue-stone road, leading right to the north.

Fengyu and the twins walked onto the road and instantly saw a breathtaking view in front of them –

Blue skies free of all obstruction. To the left and right were huge cliffs seemingly having been cut in half to open this road.

Dozens of cultivators walked this path – some were like him, going to the city with eyes full of expectation. Others were simple couriers taking some items to the city or the villages.

"Senior brother, shall we?" Ling asked when she saw Fengyu being quiet for quite some time.

"The world is beautiful, isn’t it?" Fengyu asked, his eyes not leaving the blue sky.

"It is indeed beautiful!" Ling nodded.

"What do you think it feels like to be riding the clouds or walking in the air just like that?"

"Quack! You will feel like a duck!" Zimu in his arms suddenly said.

"Like a duck? Ah, hahahaha! You’re right, I will feel like a duck!" Fengyu laughed at Zimu’s comparison, feeling it was right.

"Let’s not waste any more time," Fengyu continued walking again, occasionally looking back, seeing the path he left behind.

Not just these few steps...

’With 16, I fled the place of great un-peacefulness with the help of Zimu, finally entering this place. I always thought this was the Beast Mountain Range full of danger, but now I have a feeling that this mountain range isn’t so bad at all.

After entering the village, I rented one acre of a ten acre field, using the last bit of my savings, hoping to find a foundation for a few years before possibly moving further.

A few years later I decided to remain in the village for many years longer.

I had the incident of having my income revealed, attracting people to borrow money from me. This later led to me bringing that person to court.

Two friendships were formed in the process – with these two twins who look like 12 even after reaching 30, and with that small wolf clan, who were saddened at my departure.

These wolves... getting to know them in my first Beast Attack made things easier.

In the second Beast Attack, I only observed things and didn’t pay much attention afterward, truly experiencing the safety of the village, even when they keep saying we shouldn’t rely on them.

Looking back, I feel like I’ve experienced a lot.

But looking forward, I feel like there is much more to see in the grand world!

Sometimes life feels like countless difficulties, yet when you’ve reached a checkpoint, you will realise that it’s not so difficult after all...’
