Raising Ducks for Daily Rewards

Chapter 92: Mother Duck

The time passes by like plum blossoms falling.

Day and night the stars blink like the bright lights of streets.

Gasoline and urban scents distinctly wafting under your nose.

White breath falling into your hands, freezing in the cold night.

Drip

Drip

"Haaah," Fengyu took a deep breath, his eyes brightening again.

The visions of the past dissipated in the silvery blue light of the moon, his pounding heart calming down.

"Quack?" Zimu looked worried at Fengyu, slightly shocked at the scene on this joyous day.

"In the world of mortals, when you reach the age of 30, they call it ’realising your fate.’

Zimu, in the past twenty years, do you think much has changed?"

"Quack, yes! You learned many spells and quickly advanced in your cultivation. Isn’t this a big change?"

"Indeed, it is quite a bit of change. The biggest change at thirty is to truly enter adulthood. Now I am a cultivator, who will live for many centuries to come. Don’t you think it’s a bit funny I’m entering adulthood when it’s barely a quarter of my lifespan?"

"Quack? Adulthood is maturity... and Fengyu has reached maturity! After reaching maturity, the following lifespan doesn’t matter, you will have already reached maturity."

A smile crept on Fengyu as he nodded, "Indeed. Once you have reached maturity, the following is all your life of maturity, having long passed childhood, teen years and young adulthood."

He looked at the moon in the sky, once again admiring its beauty.

When he first awakened his memories, he suppressed them, ignored them, rejected them.

As they say, ’A new life has begun, it’s time to sever the old.’

For the past few years, he was busy day and night, never finding rest.

Only now, when time has passed and he had a moment of contemplation, was he finally able to let go.

There was no need for comparison, no need for judgement – the sense of completing a life and entering a new one was all that was left in Fengyu’s heart.

When he looked at the sky with this sense of starting life and entering adulthood, he suddenly felt another image appear in front of his eyes.

Just as quickly as he moved away the other, so did he push this one away.

’Is my comprehension that good? Or is it my unique experience that allows me to realise things rapidly?’ he asked himself, slightly confused at the sensation of realising images beyond his current stage.

After a last glance at the moon, he closed his eyes, falling into a deep sleep.

...

The years passed rapidly. After reaching 32 years of age, Fengyu finally took the step to the end of his life in the village – he reached the sixth stage of cultivation and entered the last hurdle of the mid stage.

To his surprise, his neighbours the twins also reached it just half a year after him.

A sense of forbearance appeared in his heart, knowing he was moving too slow.

Fortunately he had tried learning the Egg-Inducing Spell for quite a while.

When he finally used it, he felt an increase of 20% in the eggs that were produced.

His cultivation started moving rapidly while he himself focused on another matter –

The female duck of the first couple, the first duck he had pushed to reach the early stage of the first stage with his strands.

Now that he thought of it, the talent of this duck was immense, able to give birth to four Spiritual Ducks with special bloodlines each.

On this day, it arrived at his doorstep, telling him it was prepared.

"Come in, let me aid you in your breakthrough," Fengyu kindly invited this duck into his hut, leaving her partner to wait outside with some anxiety.

"Are you ready? Do you need me to do anything?" Fengyu asked after seating the duck on the futon.

"Quack, quack quack." – No, I’m ready.

"Then let’s start," Fengyu nodded and used his spells one after another, creating an environment suitable to break through in just moments.

The duck quacked a last time before closing its eyes and lowering its body onto the futon, taking a comfortable position.

It breathed softly, in and out with a quiet sound.

Spiritual power rose and gathered on its body, yet to Fengyu’s surprise, it was like a bottomless pit.

At the same time he also didn’t see any big movement or explosion – it was a rather quiet breakthrough compared to the others.

Slowly, the duck seemed to grow slightly, its feathers smoother, gathering on its chest to form a crest –

’Origin Bloodline?’ Fengyu looked in shock.

Among all bloodlines, there are those that are distinct among all races – the bloodline of Kings, of Parents, of Ancestors.

They’re the bloodlines of those that don’t have a unique characteristic except for one – they are the leaders of their race, those that reproduced to create countless bloodlines and those that have started a new bloodline through their own effort.

Initially Fengyu thought Zimu might have such a bloodline, but he realised that any bloodline passed down in the general bloodline of ducks had to have reached at least a minimum level.

Now to his surprise, his second duck had actually achieved this!

A crest slowly formed on the duck’s chest.

Countless colourful feathers stretched from the centre of its chest, stretching out into the shape of a duck egg on the duck’s chest.

’The Crest of Reproduction, the most desired Origin Bloodline among herders...’ Fengyu looked in shock at the crest.

A moment passed as a new text formed above the duck’s head –

[Mother Spiritual Duck, use 10 Beast Origin Essence Cores to advance bloodline to early grade second stage? 0/10]

’Ten!’ he exclaimed in shock, keeping his thoughts in his mind as he waited for the duck to awake on its own.

Minutes passed as it did, finally opening its eyes and looking at Fengyu with deep intelligence.

"You’ve achieved this so fast," Fengyu smiled and reached out his hand, patting it gently.

"Quack, now I have become a Spiritual Duck like my children!" the duck said excitedly.
