Modern Weapons Cheat in Fantasy World

Chapter 67: Before the Battle

"Pilot, land us to where you think is safe," Marcus ordered.

"Copy sir, landing on the clearest patch I can find," the pilot replied.

The helicopter adjusted its course.

From above, the city of Felsis came into full view.

Smoke rose from multiple points, thick and dark, spreading across rooftops and streets. Some areas were still burning. Others had already been reduced to charred remains.

"...That’s bad," Liora said quietly.

Selene didn’t respond. Her eyes were fixed on the damage below.

Kael clicked his tongue.

"...We’re late."

Seraphine remained focused.

"...No," she said. "We’re still in time."

Marcus leaned slightly forward, scanning the ground.

"Keep distance from the main city," he added.

"Understood," the pilot replied.

The helicopter began descending.

The ground grew closer.

Buildings passed beneath them, then gave way to a wider clearing just outside the main district. A stretch of land that looked mostly untouched by the flames.

"Landing zone identified," the pilot said. "Minimal obstructions."

"Take it," Marcus said.

The helicopter lowered further.

The sound of the rotors grew louder against the ground, kicking up dust and loose debris as they approached.

Liora tightened her grip again.

"...We’re really going down..."

Selene braced herself slightly, eyes still watching outside.

Kael leaned back, steady now.

Seraphine remained calm, though her gaze sharpened.

Then—the landing gear touched the ground.

The helicopter settled.

"Touchdown," the pilot confirmed.

Marcus unfastened his harness immediately.

"Alright," he said, standing up. "This is where it starts. You are the main force, so you do what you do to keep the dragon occupied. I will find a vantage point where I can give you some cover."

Seraphine nodded firmly.

"Understood," she said. "We’ll draw its attention."

Kael stood up next, loosening his shoulders as if preparing for a fight.

"...About time," he muttered.

Selene removed her harness more carefully, her eyes already scanning the sky through the open gap of the door.

"...We need to know where it is before we move," she said.

Liora followed, a bit slower, gripping her staff tighter than before.

"Stay together," she added quietly.

The side door slid open.

And the four of them exited the helicopter. Marcus stayed behind as this is not where he’ll fight.

Then he signaled the pilot to take off immediately.

"Lift us up," Marcus said. "I want altitude."

"Copy."

The door slid shut again and the helicopter began its ascent, away from the ground.

The Silver Vanguard looked at the ascending helicopter.

"Okay, we proceed on how we will handle this," Seraphine said. "Selene and I will attack the dragon from a distance while Kael and you will be on the front. Liora. Keep Kael healthy."

"...Got it," Liora said, tightening her grip on her staff.

Kael cracked his neck slightly.

"Just keep up," he muttered, already stepping forward.

Selene raised her hand, her gaze fixed on the sky.

"...It’s still above the inner district," she said. "Moving slowly. It hasn’t noticed us yet."

Seraphine nodded once.

"Good," she said. "We use that."

She looked at Kael.

"Don’t rush in blindly," she added. "We need it to come to us, not the other way around."

Kael scoffed lightly.

"...Yeah, yeah."

But he didn’t argue.

That alone meant he was taking it seriously.

Selene began walking forward, her staff faintly glowing as she prepared her magic.

"I’ll take the first shot," she said. "Long range. Enough to get its attention."

Seraphine nodded.

"I’ll follow up," she said. "We keep pressure until it descends."

Liora stayed close behind Kael, her eyes darting between him and the sky.

"...Please don’t overextend," she said quietly.

Kael didn’t look back.

"I won’t die that easily."

They moved.

Crossing the open ground toward the edge of the city.

The heat grew stronger as they got closer.

Selene stopped first.

"...Here," she said. "This is a good line."

From where they stood, they had a clear view of the sky above the city.

And there, the Red Dragon.

Still circling and unaware from its surroundings.

Seraphine stepped beside her.

"Do it."

Selene didn’t hesitate.

She raised her staff.

Mana gathered instantly around her, the air distorting slightly as energy condensed.

"Let’s see if you notice this," she murmured.

She released it.

A sharp beam of concentrated magic shot upward, cutting through the smoke and heading straight toward the dragon.

A flash of light against the dragon’s side.

The creature jerked mid-air.

Its wings faltered for just a moment, then it turns its head slowly at the attacker. The moment it spotted them, it roared and swooped with its jaw clenching as it prepare for a burst of flame.

"Move!" Seraphine shouted.

They scattered.

The dragon’s mouth opened, then fire came.

A wide stream of burning heat tore across the ground where they had been standing just a second earlier. The air itself seemed to ripple from the temperature.

Kael didn’t stop.

He pushed forward instead.

"...Come on!" he shouted, gripping his sword as he ran straight toward it.

"Kael, wait—" Liora started, but he was already ahead.

Selene raised her staff again.

"...I’ll slow it down."

She fired another spell.

This time, multiple shots—sharp bursts of magic that struck the dragon’s wings and body, not enough to stop it, but enough to disrupt its approach.

Seraphine moved with her.

Her bow was already drawn.

Three arrows in one pull.

She released.

They shot upward in perfect alignment, glowing faintly as they struck along the dragon’s side.

The creature roared again.

Angrier this time.

Its descent slowed for just a moment as it adjusted mid-air.

"It’s reacting," Selene said.

Seraphine nodded.

"Keep pressure."

Below them, Kael reached the outer edge of the ruined street.

He stopped.

Set his stance.

And waited.

"Come down," he muttered.

Behind him, Liora raised her staff, a faint glow forming around him.

"I’ll cast buff magic on you,"

The dragon folded its wings slightly.

Then, moments later, It dropped.

A straight dive toward the ground.

Toward Kael.

"Here it comes!" Selene called out.

Seraphine stepped back slightly, preparing her next shot.

Kael didn’t move.

He tightened his grip on his sword.

"Finally."

The dragon closed the distance in seconds.

Its shadow swallowed the street as it descended.

At the last moment, it flared its wings, and landed hard.

The ground shook.

Debris scattered.

Flames erupted outward from its mouth again, sweeping across the area.

Kael dashed forward through the edge of the fire.

Straight at it.

"Let’s go!"
