Chapter 354: The Invitation Tour & Family Blessing
The invitation cards had arrived in their elegant minimalist design with subtle silver-foil details and had already been sent out to their close circle. Now, their attention had shifted to the next major item on the list: their wedding suits.
That Friday afternoon, before heading to the tailor, Matteo and Adrian had a few important places to visit. Their first was Matteo’s father’s expansive estate.
Their sleek black car passed through the iron gates and continued up the long driveway.
When they stepped into the grand study, Matteo’s father looked up from his desk. His stern expression immediately softened when he saw them standing together, a look of genuine pride and warmth filling his eyes.
Matteo personally handed him the elegant invitation, its design finished with subtle silver-foil details. His father accepted it with a pleased smile before standing and pulling Matteo into a firm embrace. He then warmly congratulated Adrian, expressing how happy he was to see his son ready to settle down with the man he loved.
They stayed for a while, enjoying a quiet conversation over tea before eventually saying their goodbyes.
From there, the driver navigated through the city traffic toward Maya’s home.
When they arrived and stepped inside, Maya was waiting in the living room. The moment she saw Adrian and Matteo walk through the door together, holding the invitation in hand, her eyes filled with happy tears. She immediately rushed forward and pulled Adrian into a tight, emotional hug.
"I’m so, so happy for you both," Maya whispered, her voice thick with emotion as she looked between them. "Seeing you two make it this far after everything you’ve been through... it means the world to me."
"Thank you, Maya," Adrian said softly, returning her embrace.
"Thank you, Maya," Matteo added warmly.
They soon settled onto the couch, and Maya looked between them with an eager smile. "So, what are the things you need me to do? I’d be happy to help."
Matteo leaned forward with a reassuring smile. "You don’t need to worry about a thing, Maya. Everything is already taken care of—the venue, the logistics, the planning. Even our suits are already picked out. We’re just going for the first fitting after we leave here. So, just focus on yourself and showing up to enjoy the day."
Maya laughed softly before turning to Adrian. "Congratulations to both of you once again. I’m so happy for you two."
Adrian smiled, then glanced around the room. "Where’s Connor? I thought he’d be home."
"He had to run into the office for a bit," Maya explained, gently resting a hand on her slightly rounded stomach. "He stayed home with me most of the morning because I wasn’t feeling completely well, but he insisted on taking care of a quick work emergency."
Adrian’s expression softened with concern. "You need to rest, Maya. With your condition right now, you need plenty of rest. Don’t stress yourself over the company. Let your assistant handle things for you, and since Connor is willing to help whenever you need him, don’t hesitate to let him. After all, he’s the one who put you in this position, so let him take full responsibility and look after you properly."
"I am resting, I promise," Maya reassured him with a soft smile. Then her expression turned thoughtful. "Oh, that reminds me... Father will be back by Sunday. You can go see him when he returns. And when you talk to him, Adrian, try to keep things calm. Don’t bring up the past. What happened is already behind us, and since you’re willing to see him, I think it could make it easier for both of you to finally move forward."
Adrian studied her for a moment. "Are you saying I should forgive him easily?"
Maya looked deeply into his eyes. "I’m saying the decision to forgive him is entirely yours."
Adrian took in his sister’s advice and let out a quiet breath. "I’ll keep that in mind, Maya. Thank you."
Maya turned toward Matteo, a grateful smile crossing her face. "And thank you, Matteo. For everything you’ve done for him."
Matteo shook his head, his eyes filled with sincerity. "Don’t thank me, Maya. If anything, I should thank him. Adrian has made me a better man in ways I never expected, and I know I’ve changed him too. We’re truly meant for each other."
Adrian beamed warmly at him. "Yes, baby. You’ve changed me in so many wonderful ways, and I believe we truly deserve each other."
Maya looked at the two of them and smiled warmly. "It’s good to see you both admit it. I wish you two nothing but a lifetime of happiness together."
"Thank you," they both said at the same time.
After sharing warm hugs and saying their goodbyes, they left Maya’s home. Matteo then instructed the driver to take them to his mother’s estate, where they would personally deliver the next invitation.
When their car finally pulled up outside Matteo’s mother’s estate, he asked the driver and his lead bodyguard to remain outside, as they usually did. He reached over, took Adrian’s hand, and walked with him toward the grand entrance.
Matteo had already called ahead to let his mother know they were on their way, so they barely had to wait. The moment he pressed the doorbell, the heavy double doors swung open almost immediately.
They stepped into the bright, beautifully decorated foyer and spotted Matteo’s mother waiting for them in the living room. As they approached, she stood with a warm, welcoming smile. She first pulled Matteo into a tight, affectionate hug before warmly embracing Adrian.
"It’s so wonderful to see you both," she said gently, gesturing for them to take a seat on the plush sofa.
Once they settled side by side, Matteo reached into his coat and placed the silver-foiled invitation on the coffee table in front of her.
His mother picked it up, running her fingers over the sleek design before looking up at them with a soft, misty-eyed smile. "Congratulations to both of you. I’m truly so happy for you."
Matteo smiled, turning toward Adrian with deep affection in his eyes. "Mom, this is Adrian. I’ve told you so much about him, but meeting him in person is something I’ve wanted for a long time. He’s the man I love, the man who changed my life completely. He brought out a side of me I never knew existed and made me want to become a better man. I’m so grateful he came into my life, and I feel incredibly lucky to have him beside me."
His mother smiled softly, her eyes twinkling with warmth. "Thank you, Adrian, for coming into my son’s life and making it so much more beautiful. I’m truly glad he found you."
Adrian smiled warmly. "You don’t have to thank me, Mom."
Matteo’s mother looked at him for a moment, her expression changing as a knowing smile slowly appeared on her lips. "Although... I believe this is actually the second time we’ve met, isn’t it?"
Adrian nodded. "Yes, Mom. This is actually our second time meeting."
Matteo blinked, his brow furrowing in confusion as he turned toward Adrian. "The second time? What do you mean? Have you two met before?"
Before Adrian could answer, his mother nodded with a smirk. "Of course we have."
"When?" Matteo asked, his confusion deepening.
Adrian gave a sheepish smile. "Well... we actually met before. And it was through your mother that I first found out you’d been stalking me for a very long time."
Matteo immediately sat up straighter, shaking his head defensively. "I wasn’t stalking you! I was protecting you. I was just looking out for you every single night."
His mother settled back into her seat, watching the two of them with a deeply amused expression.
Adrian laughed, shaking his head. "She was the one who told me, Matteo! She told me you had been following me around, so I already knew about it before you even confessed to me on the night of our engagement."
Matteo stared at his mother, completely busted, before turning back to Adrian. "Wait... so you knew?"
"Yes, I knew," Adrian admitted with a grin. "I even promised her I wouldn’t tell you, so I kept quiet."
Matteo stared at him in disbelief. "You actually kept that promise and didn’t even tell me? Baby, I’m your man! We’re supposed to tell each other everything. You knew I was the one watching over you, and you still kept quiet while I confessed everything to you?"
He shook his head, trying to look offended before a smile crept onto his face. "I’m not even angry. You’re going to be my husband, after all."
Adrian grinned, raising his hands in mock surrender as he laughed at Matteo’s stunned expression. "Well, it worked out in the end, didn’t it?"
Watching them go back and forth, Matteo’s mother burst into warm, genuine laughter. "I finally understand why the two of you fit together so well," she said. "Watching you two argue like this... It’s wonderful. I’m truly so happy for both of you."
"Thank you, Mom," Matteo muttered playfully, though a fond smile broke across his face as he pulled Adrian closer.
They stayed and chatted for a while longer, but knowing they had an appointment at the tailor’s for their suit fittings later that day, they couldn’t stay too long.
Before standing up to leave, Matteo looked across the table at his mother. "Mom... before the wedding, would you like to come stay with us at the estate for a while? We’d love to have you spend some time with us."
His mother paused, visibly touched. Her eyes filled with sudden tears as she reached across the table and squeezed his hand. "Thank you, Matteo. Thank you so much. I would love to. I would love nothing more than to spend some time with my son and my future son-in-law before the wedding."
Matteo said. "You’re always welcome in my home, Mom. Whenever you’re ready, just call me, and I’ll have my men come pick you up. You won’t have to stress yourself about anything, okay?"
His mother nodded with a soft smile. "Alright, son."
Matteo stood and pulled her into a warm hug. Adrian watched the two of them with a soft smile before saying, "It’s beautiful and peaceful seeing the two of you together."
Matteo’s mother smiled through her tears before reaching out and pulling Adrian into the embrace as well. The three of them hugged warmly, sharing a quiet, heartfelt moment.
After a few more warm hugs and final goodbyes, Matteo and Adrian walked out of the estate hand in hand, while his mother stood in the doorway, waving them off.
They stepped outside into the crisp afternoon air. As usual, Matteo’s lead bodyguard was waiting beside the rear door of the sleek black car, holding it open for them. Matteo and Adrian slid into the back seat, and with a quiet hum, the vehicle pulled away.
As the car glided smoothly down the street, Matteo turned toward Adrian, a sudden realization crossing his face.
"I knew it," Matteo said, narrowing his eyes in mock suspicion. "I’ve been trying to figure this out for so long. How did you find out? About the umbrella, the jacket... everything?" He paused, pointing an accusing finger at Adrian. "So, it was my mother who told you!"
Adrian laughed brightly, leaning back against the leather seat. "Yep! She’s the one who told me."
Matteo shook his head, a disbelieving smirk spreading across his face. "Unbelievable. Okay, answer me this—when did you find out about everything? And when did you even have the chance to meet my mother?"
Adrian tilted his head, looking at Matteo with a mischievous glint. "Beg me first and give me a kiss... then maybe I’ll tell you."
