Chapter 351: Wedding Bells and Hidden Truths
Matteo smiled against his hair. "I can live with that. But only because I know I’ll finally get to call you my husband."
Adrian tilted his head back, a teasing smile playing on his lips. "Alright, husband-to-be, let’s get up and freshen up so we can head downstairs for breakfast."
Matteo didn’t move. Instead, he tightened his hold slightly, a thoughtful look crossing his face. "Not yet. Send your friends a message ahead of time to let them know about the wedding. Tell them the formal invitations will reach them before Friday."
Adrian blinked, considering it. "Alright. I’ll do that after you leave for work."
"I’ll handle my side of the guest list today, too," Matteo added, his thumb tracing soothing circles against Adrian’s back.
"Even though we’re doing it on short notice, we really should send out proper invitations rather than just giving them a casual heads-up," Adrian said, resting his chin on Matteo’s chest.
"I know, I know. But letting your friends know early gives them a chance to clear their schedules," Matteo said with a smile. "Alright, baby?"
"It’s fine," Adrian murmured, leaning up to press one last quick kiss to his lips.
Finally, they both untangled themselves from the blankets and stood up to get ready for the day.
They lingered in a long, steamy shower together, warm water cascading over their bodies and washing away the last traces of sleep. When they finally stepped out and returned to the bedroom to dress, Matteo pulled on his signature sharp attire, a sleek black turtleneck beneath a tailored overcoat that radiated quiet, effortless authority. Adrian, by contrast, chose something soft and loose, comfortable clothes perfect for lounging around the house.
Hand in hand, they walked downstairs to the dining room for breakfast. The meal was filled with quiet chatter, warm glances, and the quiet excitement of a future finally taking shape.
Once they finished eating, they walked together to the front foyer. Matteo cupped Adrian’s cheek and pressed a tender kiss to his cheekbone. "Have a good day at home, Rian. I’ll see you this evening."
"Drive safe," Adrian said, watching Matteo step out through the front doors.
His lead bodyguard already stood by the rear door of the sleek black car, holding it open. Matteo gave Adrian one last fond glance before sliding into the back seat. The heavy door clicked shut, and with a low hum of engines, the armored convoy pulled away, gliding down the driveway and leaving the quiet estate in the morning light.
With the house to himself for a few hours, Adrian headed back upstairs to their bedroom. He settled onto the plush couch, picked up his phone from the side table, and dialed his sister, Maya.
The call connected after two rings.
"Adrian?" Maya’s bright voice came through the speaker. "Good morning! Is everything okay?"
A wide smile spread across Adrian’s face. "Good morning, Maya. Everything is more than okay. In fact... I have some huge news."
"Oh?" Maya gasped softly, the sound of paper rustling stopping on her end. "Don’t keep me hanging. What is it?"
"Matteo and I are getting married," Adrian said, the words carrying a breathless joy he couldn’t hide. "In two weeks."
For a second, there was absolute silence on the line, and then Maya let out a high-pitched squeal of pure delight. "Oh, my god, Adrian! Are you serious?!"
Adrian laughed, shaking his head. "I am completely serious. We just decided this morning. It’s going to be a small, secure gathering, just family and our closest friends."
"I am so, so happy for you!" Maya cheered, her voice thick with emotion. "You two have been through so much. You honestly deserve all the happiness in the world. Congratulations, baby brother!"
"Thank you, Maya," Adrian whispered, his heart swelling. "Actually... since you’ve been through this and know how these things work, I could really use your advice. Matteo and I want to keep it intimate, but I feel completely overwhelmed by all the little details—venues, timelines, decorations. I don’t even know where to start."
"Oh, sweetheart, take a deep breath. You came to the right person," Maya laughed warmly, slipping into full older-sister mode. "First of all, don’t panic. Two weeks is tight, but because it’s a smaller, private ceremony, it’s completely doable. Here’s what you need to prioritize right now..."
For the next twenty minutes, Maya patiently walked him through the essentials, offering practical suggestions, smart shortcuts, and steady reassurances. Adrian listened closely, taking mental notes and occasionally sharing his own ideas for the color scheme and floral arrangements. Maya couldn’t stop smiling, soaking in every happy detail of her brother’s wedding plans.
"You’re going to make the most handsome groom, Adrian," she said softly as the conversation wound down. "Let me know if you need me to come over early to help pull any of this together."
"You seriously don’t have to stress yourself," Adrian said. "Remember you’re pregnant. How’s the baby doing?"
"The baby is doing just fine," Maya replied. "I’m pregnant, not disabled. So don’t hesitate to call me over if you need my help, okay?"
"Alright, sis. Thank you so much, Maya. Love you."
"Love you too! Keep me updated on everything!"
The call disconnected with a soft click, leaving Adrian beaming. Without wasting a second, he opened his messaging app and initiated a video group call with Charles and Frank.
The screen flickered for a moment before Charles’s face appeared.
"What’s up, Adrian?" he greeted, looking relaxed.
Before Adrian could even open his mouth to answer, a second notification chimed, and Frank’s line connected. Both Charles and Adrian instinctively leaned closer to their screens, not just because they were excited to see their friend, but because of the face that had suddenly materialized in the frame.
It wasn’t Frank.
Sitting comfortably in Frank’s room, looking entirely at home, was a stranger with striking, noble features and an effortless, breathtaking elegance.
Raphael offered a calm, easy wave. "Hi. He’ll join you in a minute."
On his end, Adrian stared at the screen, blinking in sheer awe. Who is this guy? he thought to himself, completely mesmerized. Wow... so handsome.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the screen, Charles narrowed his eyes, studying the stranger closely. He tilted his head, searching his memory. There was something unmistakably familiar about those sharp features and aristocratic posture, he was certain he had seen that face before, even if he couldn’t quite place it.
Before Charles could pull the name from his memory, the camera shifted. Frank’s face suddenly filled the screen as he took the phone from Raphael and walked out of the bedroom. He settled onto the living room sofa.
"Hi, guys," Frank smiled brightly.
Adrian immediately snapped out of his trance, his eyes narrowing playfully at his screen. "Frank... don’t you dare lie to me. Who is that man?"
Frank blinked, trying to play it cool, then smiled. "He’s my boyfriend."
"Your boyfriend?!" Adrian blurted out, throwing his hands up. "Oh my god, Frank, your boyfriend looks like a prince. He is so stunning!"
Charles, still trying to connect the dots in his head, suddenly heard Adrian use the word prince. The missing puzzle piece clicked violently into place, and his eyes widened in realization.
"Wait," Charles interrupted, sitting up straight. "Frank... your boyfriend is the Northway prince, Prince Raphael, isn’t he?"
Frank offered a sheepish, confirming nod. "Yes."
Adrian literally bounced on his couch, his eyes wide with disbelief and pure joy. "Oh my god! My best friend is dating a prince?! That is fucking iconic! That is the sweetest, most insane news ever!" He paused, a wicked grin spreading across his face. "Forget the reason I actually called you guys. Spill the tea right now. How on earth did you two meet?"
Charles, however, didn’t share Adrian’s immediate, chaotic energy. He stared quietly through the screen, a heavy, unreadable expression settling over his features. After a long beat, he finally spoke, his voice dangerously even.
"Congratulations, Frank," Charles said slowly, every word measured. "I’m happy for you. You really deserve it." He paused, his gaze hardening just a fraction. "How long have you two been dating?"
"Over six months," Frank replied softly, sensing the sudden shift in the air.
Charles let out a dry, humorless laugh, shaking his head. "Wow. Over six months... and we knew absolutely nothing about it. Meanwhile, you sit there and hear every single detail of our lives, knowing you’re keeping a massive secret of your own."
Adrian’s smile immediately faded. Even through the video call, he recognized Charles’s tone all too well, the quiet, sharp edge of hurt mixed with real anger.
"Come on, Charles," Adrian chimed in quickly, trying to defuse the tension. "It doesn’t matter, we should just be happy for him—"
"I’m happy for him, Adrian. Don’t get the wrong idea about my reaction. I just can’t believe Frank, of all people, who hates it when someone keeps secrets from him, actually managed to keep something this big from us for over six months," Charles cut in, his eyes fixed firmly on Frank.
"I’m sorry," Frank murmured, looking down at his hands, feeling the crushing weight of guilt.
Charles ignored him entirely, refusing to soften. Instead, he forced a polite smile and turned his attention back to Adrian. "Anyway... Adrian, you look like you’re about to burst. Tell us what your news is.
Relief washed over Adrian as the spotlight shifted away from the argument, and a fresh wave of excitement took over. He beamed at the camera. "Oh, right! I’m officially getting a husband in two weeks. Matteo and I are getting married!"
For a moment, the heavy air in the group chat disappeared, replaced by genuine shock. They all knew Matteo and Adrian’s wedding was coming after their recent engagement, but none of them expected it to happen so soon.
"What?!" Charles’s eyes widened, a bright, genuine smile breaking across his face as he laughed. "Oh my God, congratulations, Adrian!"
Frank immediately chimed in as well, eager to make up for the awkwardness. "Oh my God, congratulations! I’m so, so happy for you, Adrian!"
"Thank you!" Adrian beamed. "So both of you need to start clearing your schedules right now."
They both immediately agreed, and for the next several minutes, the mood lightened as they dived into planning, dates, and logistics. But the underlying friction didn’t vanish completely.
Throughout the rest of the conversation, Frank tried several times to directly address Charles, offering soft explanations and looking for an opening to smooth things over, but Charles deliberately kept his answers short, cold, and entirely surface-level, continuing to freeze him out.
Sensing that the atmosphere had soured beyond repair for the day, Charles was the first to speak up. "Alright, guys, I actually have to step away and take care of something. Talk to you later."
Before anyone else could say another word, Charles disconnected...
