Chapter 344: Say It Again, Husband-to-Be
Adrian gasped softly before melting into the embrace, wrapping his arms around Matteo’s broad shoulders and hugging him back just as tightly.
"If I had the power to buy you an entire building, Rian," Matteo murmured against his hair, his voice filled with unwavering devotion, "did you really think I hadn’t already planned to set the whole thing up for you?"
Adrian pulled back slightly, his eyes widening as he opened his mouth to speak.
Before he could say a word, Matteo gently pressed a finger to his lips. "Take your card back. You’re not spending a single cent of your own money. I’m going to build this entire company in your name, exactly how you want it. And yes, I’m still paying you every single dollar of the groom price you asked for."
Realization and overwhelming warmth washed over Adrian. His chest ached with how deeply he was loved, and he immediately wrapped his arms around Matteo’s neck again, burying his face against his shoulder.
"Thank you, baby..." Adrian whispered, his voice thick with emotion as he held him tighter, letting Matteo feel just how much everything he was doing meant to him.
Matteo rubbed a steady hand up and down Adrian’s back before pressing a gentle kiss to his temple. "You’re more than welcome, my love. Seeing you happy and watching your dreams come to life... that’s all that matters to me."
Adrian pulled back just an inch, a stray drop of happy tears slipping from his lashes. He looked deeply into Matteo’s unwavering eyes, his voice soft and thick with emotion. "Thank you, baby."
Matteo’s lips twitched into a fond, teasing smirk. "Oh, look at my little crybaby." With infinite gentleness, he used his thumb to wipe the tear from Adrian’s cheek. "You never need to thank me, Rian. From the very moment I stepped into your life, you became my responsibility. Everything I do for you isn’t a chore—it’s my duty, and it’s my privilege."
Adrian pouted softly, a sudden wave of vulnerability washing over him as he gripped the front of Matteo’s shirt. "Don’t ever stop loving me, okay?"
Matteo’s expression turned fierce and absolute. He cupped Adrian’s face, his thumb brushing his cheekbone. "I could never stop loving you. You are my world, how could I ever live without you? You’re the air I breathe."
Adrian blinked, a surprised, delighted chuckle slipping past his lips. "Look at you... you’re getting so hopelessly sweet. Where on earth did you learn how to talk like that?"
Matteo gave a low, throaty laugh, his eyes dancing with mischief. "It was always in me, baby. You just didn’t see it until now."
Adrian smiled brightly, his heart swelling to the point of bursting. "Thank you... my husband-to-be."
The second those words left Adrian’s mouth, Matteo froze entirely. He stared at him, his breath catching. "Say that again."
Realization flashed in Adrian’s eyes. Panicking playfully, he quickly scrambled off Matteo’s lap and jumped backward onto the mattress, throwing his hands up. "Nope! Not a chance!"
Matteo’s eyes narrowed with mock danger as he slowly stood up from the edge of the bed. "Oh, you are going to repeat it."
"Never!" Adrian laughed, grabbing a plush pillow and hurling it straight at Matteo’s chest.
Matteo caught it effortlessly, tossing it aside with a wicked grin before lunging forward. He tackled Adrian onto the soft mattress, pinning him down as he immediately went for his ribs, tickling him mercilessly.
"Stop—stop it, Matteo! I’m warning you—ahahaha!—" Adrian shrieked, thrashing around and laughing so hard tears pricked his eyes again as he tried to defend himself, grabbing another pillow to whack Matteo over the back with it.
For a few minutes, the suite echoed with the sound of breathless laughter, flying pillows, and playful wrestling until they both collapsed backward onto the bed, completely out of breath, chests heaving against each other.
The chaotic energy slowly dissolved into a sweet, heavy quiet.
Matteo rolled onto his side, propping his head up on one hand as he gazed down at Adrian. His expression softened into something intensely tender. He leaned down, capturing Adrian’s lips in a slow, lingering kiss that tasted of pure devotion.
Adrian melted into the embrace instantly, sliding his arms around Matteo’s neck and pulling him closer. Breakfast was completely forgotten as the world outside seemed to fade away, leaving only the warmth and quiet comfort they had created together.
They remained wrapped in each other’s arms until the sharp, sudden buzzing of a phone shattered the peaceful silence.
At first, Matteo didn’t even move. His face remained buried lazily in the crook of Adrian’s neck as he groaned in annoyance. But the phone kept vibrating relentlessly against the bedside table.
Adrian gently tapped his shoulder. "You should probably check that. It might be an urgent business call."
Reluctantly, Matteo pulled back with a heavy sigh and reached for the phone. But the moment his eyes landed on the caller ID, his entire body went rigid.
He turned sharply toward Adrian, his expression suddenly tense. "Babe... It’s my mom."
Adrian sat upright, all traces of sleepiness disappearing from his face.
He turned sharply toward Adrian, his expression suddenly tense. "Babe... it’s my mom."
Adrian sat upright, all traces of sleepiness disappearing from his face.
Matteo turned the screen toward him so he could see the name glowing on the display. Adrian took a quiet breath, gave him an encouraging nod, and whispered, "Pick it up."
Matteo took a slow, steadying breath, keeping his eyes on Adrian. Then he switched the call to speakerphone and swiped across the screen to answer.
"Hello," Matteo said, his voice carefully neutral.
His mother’s voice came through the speaker almost immediately, clear and gentle. "Good morning, Matteo. How are you doing? Did you get my text message?"
Matteo remained silent for a moment, his jaw tightening slightly.
"I wanted to see you today, since you’ll be heading back to work tomorrow, Monday," his mother continued. "Is there any way I can see you?"
Matteo glanced at Adrian, hesitating. He didn’t want to sound too eager or give in too easily, caught between their complicated past and everything he was still trying to process.
Seeing him hesitate, Adrian silently mouthed, Speak up. Don’t be like that.
Matteo cleared his throat, forcing his voice to remain guarded. "I’m... not back home yet. I can’t say for sure if I’ll have the chance today."
There was a brief pause on the other end before his mother sighed softly. "I understand. I’m going back in two weeks. Sometime within that period, Matteo... please, could you just spare your mother an hour of your time?"
Adrian gave him a soft, reproving look, lightly nudging Matteo’s knee as he mouthed, "Don’t act too hard."
Matteo softened, running a hand through his hair. "Okay... maybe if I get back home today, I’ll see if it’s possible to meet up."
Relief softened her voice. "Alright. I can come to you, or you can come to me, whatever works best for you."
Matteo fell silent for a moment, weighing his options before finally making his decision. "I’ll come to you."
"Thank you, son," she said, a quiet warmth returning to her voice. "I’ll be expecting you."
"Alright."
With that, Matteo swiped across the screen to end the call. The heavy silence in the room lasted only a moment before he tossed the phone aside and immediately wrapped his arms around Adrian, burying his face against his chest as though anchoring himself there.
Adrian ran his fingers soothingly through Matteo’s hair, a gentle, understanding smile on his face. "It’s fine, baby. You did well. We should start packing and head back home anyway. Besides, your mother can’t travel back yet. I need her to be fully available and present for our wedding."
Matteo lifted his head, a genuine smile breaking through as the lingering tension finally eased. He nodded softly. "Alright, baby."
Reaching for his phone again, Matteo called Mark and told him that they would be leaving soon, asking him and Charles to get their things ready. After ending the call, he turned to Adrian.
"You should let your friends know too, baby. Tell them we’re heading back soon."
Adrian nodded and immediately picked up his phone to message them.
Matteo then sent a brief message to his bodyguards, letting them know they needed to be ready for the journey back.
Once he had informed everyone who needed to know, Matteo stood up and said, "All right, baby, let’s pack our things so the bodyguards can come and take the luggage out, and we can finally start our journey."
Okay, baby," Adrian agreed, stretching lazily before sitting up.
Matteo paused, glancing at him thoughtfully. "Babe, should I order something for you to eat here, or would you rather we stop somewhere along the way and find a nice café?"
Adrian shook his head. "It’s fine, babe. Let’s just get some takeout here. Their food is really nice."
"Alright," Matteo murmured, immediately sending a quick message to one of his bodyguards to handle the order.
With that settled, they got to work. Before packing everything away, they took their time in the bathroom, showering together and washing away the remnants of the night. Once they were clean and refreshed, they returned to the suite and helped each other choose fresh, comfortable clothes for the journey. As usual, they couldn’t resist playfully fixing and styling each other’s hair.
Once they were dressed, they packed the remaining toiletries and personal belongings into their travel bags. After everything was finally packed and zipped shut, Matteo signaled the bodyguards, who came into the suite to collect the heavier luggage and carry everything downstairs to the waiting vehicles.
After checking out and handling everything they needed to take care of at the resort, they walked out into the bright morning sunlight. The fleet of sleek cars was lined up and waiting for them.
Matteo and Adrian slid into the back of their own vehicle, while Mark and Charles, Maxwell, and Frank each went to their separate cars.
Once everyone was inside, the doors closed and the convoy slowly pulled away from the resort, beginning the journey back home.
