Chapter 109: Hivemind
Diego and Isabella left after taking their coins and the black market coins. As soon as they left.
Through the reflection of broke glass, a ghostly pale hand came out, the souls of the death in the warehouse appeared.
They twisted in agony and resisted but each and every one was pulled towards the hand and disappeared through the glass.
The place returned to silence with only the scent of blood lingering in the air. Diego and Isabella reported to Sam.
He came to retrieve the items, " Um, I see, so what you’re saying is, you want to give this to Adrian directly?"
Isabella nodded, " Yes sir Sam, we do wish to see lord Adrian directly." She answered and Sam just shrugged.
" Suit yourself, I’m not sure what you’re hoping for but you’ll be disappointed, he’s a hard dude."
Sam didn’t voice it outloud but he was certain these two hoped Adrian would turn them into Gemma werewolves.
He almost laughed at that notion, he understood Adrian more than anybody and that boy was colder than he showed.
He had his soft spots but he wasn’t so easily impressed. In fact Sam could already imagine his answer.
" Come." He called the two and they went to Adrian, they found him eating porridge with Suzie still working in the kitchen.
John sat behind Adrian, the two noticed something was strange with Adrian, he looked tired.
They were right, it has been a few hours since he woke up from that dream and he still felt exhausted.
" Do you have what I ask you to get?" He asked as soon as they got in. They both went on one knee.
" Lord Adrian, we have it." They presented the two boxes. Adrian raised his eyebrow in confusion.
" Weren’t you supposed to use these coins to buy the tickets, why do you still have them?"
Diego answered very quickly as if Afraid Adrian would misunderstand. " We did intent to but they tried to have one on us so we killed them."
They were both nervous and waited for his answer but he said nothing and continued eating.
Suzie came back and took the two boxes and brought them to Adrian, he opened the box with elk coins.
Took out four and gave them to the couple. " This is your payment for the task." Suzie told them as she passed them the coins but they did not take them.
Suzie’s eyes grew cold, " Will you not take what lord Adrian has granted you?" Her voice came out as cold as ice.
The couple shivered, " Lady Suzie, we wouldn’t dare but we were hoping for a different reward."
Sam sighed, ’ Best they learn the nature of their lord right now.’ he didn’t say anything and continued watching.
" I see, your courage and foolishness are astounding, the mere presence of lord Adrain should be a reward enough yet you demand more, tell me, how would you like to die?"
Two spheres appeared next to her ready to take off the couple’s heads. ’ She’s getting worse.’ Adrian thought.
" Suzie." He called out and she immediately dismissed her spheres. Adrian didn’t respond to the couple.
He knew what they wanted and he wasn’t going to give it to them. Sam understood exactly why.
Adrian was cold, true but he was also fair, even though his personality was slowly changing.
That trait didn’t change, he was very fair and until he deemed their accomplishments enough, he wouldn’t be rewarding them with that.
His fairness meant his rewards match the task. It was also the reason why the 13 Gemma exists.
The task of increasing the pack was up to them now, for Adrian to turn somebody now they would need to be special.
Sam didn’t know if there was a practical reason or perhaps it was just one of Adrian’s way to act cool.
It was both, Adrian understood that those turned by him were naturally stronger than those turned by others even on the same level and rank.
It would be more accurate to say those turned directly by him are of the main lineage while the others are of the branch lineage.
There was a bloodline suppression between those two making those of the main lineage much more superior.
Which is why he had no plans of turning others himself, he wanted those of the main lineage to be few and special.
It will be very cool if those directly turned by him were few but all were very powerful, how could he miss that opportunity.
He could already imagine it, werewolves on a battlefield losing to a larger army and just as the enemy thinks they will win.
They show up, 13 werewolves dominating an entire battlefield and the fame of the main lineage spreads.
Then rumours of the mysterious figure behind them, the supreme werewolf who stands above all.
Then he shows up looking all cool and stuff, he didn’t even see the weird gazes the so called main lineage was giving him.
The couple looked confused wondering what he was smiling about but Sam, Suzie and John knew.
’ Lord Adrian is very strange, sometimes he’s very cold like an ancient villain and sometimes he’s just childish, cute.’
Suzie found herself also lost in her own thoughts and smiling while looking at Adrian.
Yet John was not jealous because he knew why she was smiling like that. Not only did she revere Adrian but she found him cute.
She especially likes to play with his soft hair like a doll. Adrian suddenly stood up, he’s been having a splitting headache since he woke up.
" Escort these two out." He turned and walked upstairs. The couple looked disappointed.
They thought he was disappointed in them, they had no idea he really didn’t care, he just wanted to sleep.
Outside, Sam stopped the two. " Do you know why he didn’t even entertain your request?"
They shook their heads, " Because the dude is exhausted for some reason." That caught them off guard.
They really did not expect that answer but it gave them hope. " So if..." Sam raised his hand to stop them.
His eyes turned cold, they’ve never seen the usually easy going Sam like this, " Be glad he was too tired to mind you.
He hates ungrateful person and considering you’ve been granted immortality and power beyond your comprehension.
Asking for more does sound ungrateful doesn’t it?" They grew quiet and felt shame because he was right.
Being a werewolf was beyond their wildest imagination with barely any downsides, even their leader barely ask anything of them.
They’re usually just free to do as they please. They both to Sam, " Please ask lord Adrian to forgive us, we meant no disrespect."
Sam smiled, " Just don’t bring that up again, he’ll grant it to you when he feels you deserve it."
They both nodded, learning there was hope was enough for them.
Adrian in the meantime felt the headache growing stronger, he could feel himself awakening a new ability.
’ This could be useful, I guess I’ll call this hivemind.’
