Chapter 93: Karon Heading Home
Baron Karon arrived in the domain of the vampires on the realm beyond the mist, the entire domain was shrouded in clouds so dark they looked like ink.
The sun could not pass through the thick layer of dark clouds and as such, the vampires never had to fear daylight.
He turned into a cloud of bats and flew towards his home, on the way he passed above a village.
He had been running for the past three months and didn’t have a chance to feed, he landed outside the village.
He could sense a single Espera inside but his aura was weak, obviously a newly awakened Espera.
He walked slowly into the village but the moment the villagers saw him, they screamed and ran to their houses.
They all understood this was the territory of vampires, unfortunately in the realm beyond the mist Gadra were everywhere.
They couldn’t leave even if they wanted to so they accepted their fate, they just prayed they weren’t the poor souls chosen to be a meal.
This realm was nothing like the world of mortals, not only did it have powerful monsters but it was stuck in time.
Due to the overwhelming presence of supernatural forces, scientific advancement was slow.
They were still stuck in medieval ages of swords and spears but at the same time, humans here had a higher chance of awakening as Espara.
One such human was a young man no more than 19 years old, the moment he sensed the aura of a vampire he left his house and waited on the street.
He saw the vampire and drew his sword but his hands were shaking. Karon saw this young man acting brave and he licked his lips.
The blood of Espara was countless times better than that of normal humans, then he saw something else.
The boy was wearing a blue short cloak around his shoulders, the cloak had an insignia of a rising sun.
’ The rising dawn force.’ Karon knew of this military force, a human force born in this region with the sole purpose of killing vampires.
He looked around searching for others because those pests never travel alone but he couldn’t sense any of them.
He turned his attention back to the boy, " Little human rat, tell me, are you alone?" He asked.
The boy didn’t answer and held his sword tighter. Karon relaxed, any member of the force understands that dealing with a vampire, one must use a wooden stake.
He could see the wooden stacks on his body yet he insisted on using a sword but Karon knew the cloak was real.
Which left two possibilities, one, it belonged to somebody he knew or the boy was new to the force.
He leaned more towards the latter, " AHHHHHH." The human roared and lunged at him.
’ Fast.’ Karon thought, he immediately discerned that the boy had a speed type ability.
While fast for a level 1 Espara, his speed was akin to a turtle to Karon. He took a step forward and disappeared, then reappeared behind him.
Before the human boy could react, Karon grabbed the back of his head and rammed him on the ground.
" NOOOOOOOO." He heard a woman scream and saw a middle aged woman crying inside a house.
Karon grinned, he understood why the boy was alone now, this was his home and he figured that was his mother.
He stopped himself from killing the boy and broke all of his limbs but kept him alive. The boy raised his head defiantly.
" Why’d you stop, why don’t you kill me you coward?" He spat on Karon’s face and Karon just grinned.
There was no amusement in that grin, his eyes were blazing with fury and killing intent. He dragged the boy to the edge of the village where he had a clear view.
" I want you to watch in despair as I slaughter all these villagers." Karon picked up a fist sized stone.
Vampires couldn’t enter people’s houses without an invitation, they also couldn’t use their abilities to break down the house.
However that didn’t mean they couldn’t do anything, as long as whatever they use isn’t part of them, they could use anything.
He pulled his arm back then threw the rock, BOOOOM, the air shattered and the rock shot out like a bullet.
It pierced through the wooden walls of the house leaving a gaping hole but Karon was not done.
" No no no, stop please stop!" The boy screamed as he sank in despair. Karon kept throwing the stones.
The first house couldn’t hold on and fell, the people inside struggled to get up under the wreckage.
They only managed to run a few steps before rocks riddled them with holes. The other villagers saw this and screamed in fear.
Some couldn’t hold on and tried to run but each and every one of them met a gruesome fate.
Before long, only one house remained, the one with the Espara’s mother, realising this, he screamed and struggled even harder to no avail.
He watched as his childhood home crumbled and his feeble mother being crushed under the weight of her house but she was still breathing.
However he had no delusions of things remaining that way, he understood the cruelty of vampires.
Especially noble vampires like this one, they saw humans as nothing but livestock, which is why the force exist.
The vampire appeared next to his mother and pulled her out then dragged her barely breathing body next to him.
" You seem to hate us, human rat, let’s see if you’ll feel the same about your mother once she becomes one of us."
Karon bit the woman and inject vampire venom inside her. The black venom traveled through her veins to her heart.
She screamed and writhed in agony but she wasn’t turning, she resisted the urge to accept.
A few minutes passed and then she stopped moving. " Interesting, not many resist the allure of eternal life to this extent.
When faced with death, human nature usually shows. Be proud rat, your mother remained true to her weakness."
The boy raised his head and smiled at him mockingly. Karon raised his eyebrow wondering what he was smiling about.
" Weakness? Humanity.." cough cough. He coughed up blood then continued. " Humanity is not a weakness.
However I don’t expect a blood sucking vermin like you to understand, your kind only knows cruelty and slaughter.
Which is why none of you have anybody to trust or rely on, our lives might be short and we might be weak, but our hearts and minds are stronger than your entire race combined. In those short years, we live more than you ever will in eternity."
Karon’s face turned dark, " How dare a mere insect speak of my noble race?" Karon felt a sudden rage rise inside him.
He grabbed the boy and sucked his blood, in a few seconds the human was dead and he threw his corpse to the ground then turned around and flew off.
He didn’t notice a silver locket falling off the boy’s chest, the locket reflected the world around it.
Then a face of a young woman with pure white hair and pitch black eyes appeared through the reflection.
