Chapter 74: Ghouls
They followed Adrain inside, Annie kept close to him making the guy called Cyril not happy.
Adrian didn’t care about his unhappiness, in fact he felt smug, who was this bastard to think he can steal his girl.
They walked further in to the mines and at some point it got so dark their torches started dimming as if the darkness was devouring their light.
" What’s wrong with these torches, Cyril did you buy low quality rubbish?" One of the guys asked as his torch started flickering.
But it was not only his, all the torches started flickering on and off. " Of course not, I made sure they were good quality, I swear." Cyril defended himself.
Adrain didn’t say anything but he knew why this was happening, the dark esper of Gadra was interfering with the technology.
It was similar to how electricity and smart phones don’t work well when there’s a ghost around in movies.
Those movies had some truth to them, Gadra and spirits like ghosts had dark esper which interferes with technological devices.
Eve started shivering, she heard whispers and froze, " We..we need to go back." She whispered.
The others turned towards her and frowned, " What’s wrong with you? If you’re a coward you can go back, don’t tell us what to do."
One of the girls clicked her tongue in annoyance, the only reason Eve was even here was because she was friends with Annie.
The truth was, the rest of them didn’t like her and found her unsettling which was understandable.
As her connection with spirits and her medium abilities grew, her skin got more and more pale.
She sighed and looked at Adrain, he still said nothing, knowing what kind of monster he was, she chose to trust him.
Annie looked at her friend with worry, after going nearly a kilometre inside the mines they came out to a large underground caven.
The last light of their torches flickered and disappeared, Annie got so scared she found herself grabbing Adrian’s arm.
Then they heard it, a low growl reverberated across the cave. " Wh.. what was that?" One of the girls asked in a shaking voice.
BOOOOM, they heard a sound like a bomb going off, the entire cave shook and they screamed.
A flame appeared and lit up the entire cave and finally they were able to see, on the other end of the cave nearly 20 metres away was a human.
Looking closer they realised this man had green skin, pitch black eyes and sharp black claws.
The beast like growl came from him, " Zo..zo.. zombie!" Annie screamed, she had always been afraid of zombies.
Instead of running she held tighter to Adrain but he had to shake her off, she looked hurt and he smiled at her.
" Don’t worry, I won’t let anything hurt you." He whispered, Annie suddenly felt calm, she didn’t know why but she had a feeling she was safe in his presence.
" Adrain is that thing a level 2?" Eve asked, after doing her own research about the supernatural world she had come to realise monsters were divided into levels.
Adrain nodded but that made her terrified
" Aren’t you a level 1?" She asked because from what she gathered, the difference in strength between levels was huge.
Adrain nodded but said nothing else, the discussion confused the others but they didn’t stop to listen.
They turned to run, " I wouldn’t do that if I were you." Adrain called out but they didn’t listen.
A streak of fire shot past them like an arrow and lit up the passage they came from, on its sides were other cave passages.
From those openings came out more ghouls, nearly a hundred ghouls at level 1. While ghouls were not particularly fast, they were still Gadra.
They were much faster than a normal human, the others stopped and ran back inside then it dawned on them.
This guy named Adrain seemed to know about these things, their minds were so shaken then even forgot to think about where that flame came from.
" You..you bastard, you did this on purpose, you brought us here to kill us!" Cyril shouted accusing Adrain.
Annie’s eyes turned cold, " Shut up!" She shouted, " It was your stupid idea to come here, how dare you blame others!"
They all froze, they had never seen this side of the usually soft Annie. " But.." Cyril tried to argue but her cold gaze made him stop.
While their didn’t seem what happened, she saw it clearly, the first fire used to lit up the cave and the second one fired at the passage.
Both of them were created by Adrain but not through a gas lighter, a flame thrower or anything else.
The flames came from his hand like magic, " Adrain, What’s happening?" She asked softly.
Adrain sighed, " Not yet." He whispered but she heard him which made her even more confused.
He turned towards her, " Everything will be fine, I promise and you know I keep my promises."
She nodded nervously but she found it hard to relax at this point, the monster she was looking at was too terrifying.
The others also huddled together and kept retreating towards him as the ghouls slowly approached them.
Even Adrain had been surprised by this number, he knew ghouls can turn their victims into ghouls as well.
Once a ghoul turns over a hundred ghouls they become a ghoul king, even if they were a level 1 ghoul, they would immediately turn into a level 2.
If they were already a level 2, they would gain a power boost and looking at the glowing green skin of this ghoul like polished metal.
He was certain it has become an iron ghoul making it significantly more durable than before.
Still he was not worried, the ghoul climbed out of the wall and fell on the ground with a thud then looked at him and growled.
" Eve, can your ghosts take care of the other pests?" His question surprised Eve, she had kept that a secret so she doesn’t know how he knows.
" Yea..yeah sure, are you going to transform?" She asked, she was really eager to see his werewolf form.
He shook his head, " That won’t be necessary to deal with a mere ghoul." This surprised her.
She didn’t know the name of these monsters but she knew that one was a level 2, her ghosts had told her.
Adrian’s hair grew longer and turned silver and his eyes lit up like two silver moons surprising everybody.
" Mo.. monster,!" One of the girls screamed.
" Shut up!" Eve shouted shutting the girl up. She clasped her hands together and closed her eyes as if praying.
" Lend me your aid." Before anybody could react, dozens of ghostly figures appeared in the cave.
The others kids couldn’t hold back and screamed, even Annie screamed and hugged Adrain tightly.
Adrain sighed, " Such a drag."
