Chapter 10 : Chapter 10
Chapter 10. Is It Really Appropriate to Lose Your Mind in Front of a Maid?
Eve sat upright on the sofa with a straight back, her hands folded neatly on her knees.
Unlike an ordinary patient eager to pour out their troubles, she simply looked over calmly with her red eyes and then uttered three words:
“Psychopath.”
“Hey, why are you insulting me? Did you come here on purpose just to cause trouble?”
“I have no mood to play along with your act.”
“Ah… fine, fine. You really are no fun,” the woman sighed helplessly, spreading her hands.
With the movement, the identification card half tucked inside her white coat slipped free. It hung from a thin metal chain and swayed lightly.
The card clearly read:
[Annabella | JM Clinic]
If she had truly been nothing more than an ordinary doctor at a clinic, Eve would not have come all this way.
After all, only here could she obtain what she needed.
“The item?” Eve asked.
“Yes, yes.” Annabella drawled lazily, tapping the tabletop with her fingertips. “But I cannot just give it to you for free, right? There has to be some sort of…”
A question mark slowly appeared on Eve’s face.
“Are you planning to defect from the organization?”
Annabella’s playful smile instantly froze. Sweat appeared on her forehead.
“I did not say that. Absolutely not. You can insult me if you want, but do not casually accuse me of something like that.”
With that, she quickly stood up and walked to the front door. She lowered the curtain covering the glass panel in the center and flipped the sign from [Open] to [Closed].
Her actions looked suspiciously secretive, though what they were about to do was indeed something that could not be seen by outsiders.
Annabella then turned around, removed her white coat, and casually tossed it.
It landed squarely on Eve’s head.
Do not misunderstand. This action was entirely Annabella’s personal whim and had nothing to do with Eve.
When Eve removed the coat and threw it onto the sofa beside her, her vision cleared—but Annabella had disappeared.
A magic trick of vanishing!
It was enough to make Eve frown.
A moment later, the missing Annabella reappeared from the stairwell, grinning broadly. In her hand was a sealed refrigerated bag filled with bright red liquid.
Then she tossed it in a neat arc.
The crimson bag traced a curve through the air and landed perfectly on Eve’s lap.
Plop.
“Was that accurate or not? Say something.”
Eve ignored her.
She picked up the object herself. The palm-sized pouch was filled with chilled blood, sealed carefully to preserve its freshness and flavor.
Today happened to be the day she needed to maintain her threshold.
Although Eve could suppress the craving for blood, she still needed to replenish herself once at certain intervals.
Naturally, the source was legal.
Her dim red eyes fixed intently on the blood bag, and her throat rolled slightly.
She unscrewed the cap.
Holding the pouch gently with both hands, she lowered her head and began to drink from it like a child sipping a jelly beverage.
Her posture remained quiet and refined. Even though her throat moved constantly—clearly showing she was drinking quickly—her movements stayed steady.
A Vampire trained in restraint truly was different.
Before long, the blood bag was nearly empty, leaving only a thin residue clinging to the inside.
Eve released the opening from her lips.
A drop of blood slipped down and hung briefly on the edge of her red lips before her tongue flicked out, deftly catching it.
Then she let out a small, satisfied hiccup.
The cold expression on her face softened slightly. She looked a little blank and unexpectedly cute.
Across from her, Annabella blinked slowly.
Resting her chin on both hands, she watched with a smile she could barely suppress, clearly fascinated by Eve’s feeding.
This was far from the first time she had seen it.
Yet every time, she still could not look away.
To be honest, that flexible tongue was especially captivating.
Ah… the more Annabella thought about it, the more absorbed she became. A rather immature idea began to form in her mind.
Perhaps next time Eve would not have to lick her lips.
After all, Annabella had somewhere better for that tongue to go—somewhere that was also made of lips.
Ahem.
Secondly, as the one providing the blood, watching the recipient become satisfied naturally gave Annabella a certain emotional gratification.
She even felt the urge to feed her again.
Unfortunately, there were no more blood bags left in storage.
That one had been the only one.
“This batch is worse than the last,” Eve commented after smacking her lips.
“Yes, I agree, the licking—” Annabella almost continued her earlier train of thought before abruptly correcting herself with a cough. “Ahem. Well, it cannot be helped. I did my best to pick the freshest source. Just make do.”
“What exactly are you talking about?”
“Exactly what it sounds like. Paid blood donations.”
She snapped her fingers and explained proudly.
“There is nothing that money cannot solve. If there is, it simply means you are not offering enough.”
“Those girls who love dressing themselves up need the money very much. After I perform a series of examinations, both sides get what they want. Everything proceeds naturally,” she said, gesturing vaguely.
Eve did not understand.
Instead, she asked, puzzled, “How did you conduct the examination?”
“No hair.”
“?”
Eve narrowed her eyes and froze momentarily. Her lips parted slightly before closing again.
Gradually, she understood.
Without a word, she grabbed the empty blood pouch and hurled it directly at Annabella.
Smack!
“Ow!”
Annabella had intended to react.
Unfortunately, she had greatly overestimated her own abilities.
The blood bag struck her squarely on the forehead before sliding down, while her hand remained frozen midair in a pose meant to catch it.
Her fists clenched.
Embarrassed and angry, she nearly burst out in colorful language—only to swallow it back.
The reason was simple.
She could not beat Eve in a fight.
“Young people should be a bit steadier. No need to be so violent,” Annabella said quickly, raising both hands in surrender when she saw Eve reaching for a broom. “Hey, hey, do not do that. Just tell me whether it was tender or not. I even checked personally. Guaranteed freshness!”
Eve’s gaze grew increasingly dark, as though she were looking at a pile of filthy garbage.
But after a moment’s thought, she realized Annabella had meant well.
Although the woman’s mind was clearly abnormal—and somewhat repressed in certain aspects—she was still unique.
The only one.
She could not afford to break her.
With that thought, Eve calmed herself down.
She stood up.
Her objective had already been achieved. There was no need to remain any longer.
“Hey! Leaving already?” Annabella called out. “You hardly ever visit. Stay and chat for a while. I am very bored.”
Eve turned her head and looked at her coldly. Only when her skirt hem was released did she speak calmly.
“I still have work to do.”
“You cannot really be addicted to being a maid, can you?”
“It is merely a mission.”
“I doubt that,” Annabella replied with a wicked grin, continuing to chatter.
“Honestly, that outfit you are wearing is quite explosive.”
“Why not come serve me instead? I will not take advantage of you for free. I can pay you… as many times as you like. All I ask is that you show me what color underwear you are wearing today…”
She had already sunk completely into her own fantasy, oblivious to the world around her.
In reality, the person she was fantasizing about had already left.
She was simply ranting to empty air.
…
Meanwhile, Eve had already returned to the street.
The air was filled with the damp scent of morning.
She opened the parasol she carried with her to block the bright sunlight and walked quickly across the slick stone pavement.
As she passed a street corner, a newspaper boy was shouting today’s headlines.
Eve did not stop.
As she walked past, she flicked her wrist.
A coin flew through the air and dropped neatly into the boy’s open pocket. At the same time, she smoothly took the top newspaper from the stack.
After folding it once and tucking it under her arm, she quickened her pace.
She still needed to see the Head Maid.
After all, she had slipped out during the early morning break between personal work assignments.
