Ch. 17
Chapter 17: What You Rely On when Going Out Is Your Background
“Of course! The one you defeated was an S-rank wanted criminal—and you killed him instantly! Your strength must far surpass that of a captain-level Lighthouse officer!” the young man said excitedly.
This was a level he hadn’t reached even after years of effort—yet the woman before him looked to be only around twenty.
“Just average.” Shen Yi’an tilted her head and casually dug at her ear, completely unconcerned.
In her eyes, enemies had no distinction between strong or weak—because she would win regardless.
“…” The young man was momentarily speechless.
“Why are you standing there? Do your job properly,” Shen Yi’an said.
Snapping back to his senses, the young man took out handcuffs to restrain Xuesha—but upon closer inspection, he realized there was no need.
Shen Yi’an’s blade work was precise—she had severed Xuesha’s tendons.
Even if he survived, he would be nothing more than a cripple.
“If you can’t take him away, call your team,” Shen Yi’an said, preparing to leave.
The young man quickly called out, “Benefactor, my name is Ye Zilin. If you ever need help, feel free to contact me.”
Ye Zilin took out a business card. Shen Yi’an lowered her gaze, looked at it for a moment, then slowly accepted it.
Ye Zilin… She was very familiar with that name.
In her previous life, he had been known as the number one blade in China. In just one year, he rose from an ordinary officer to the leader of the Lighthouse.
Yet soon after, he resigned.
As for the reason—it was simply because she happened to need a right-hand man at the time.
It seemed that no matter how far the threads of fate stretched, they would eventually intertwine again.
“Thank you, Sister Yi’an!” Xiao Xiaoxiao walked over with a face full of gratitude after settling her father. “And you too, Brother Zilin—thank you.”
“No… you don’t need to thank me. I didn’t really help,” Ye Zilin said, ashamed.
“How could that be? If it weren’t for Brother Zilin, I would’ve…” Xiao Xiaoxiao shuddered at the memory.
Ye Zilin’s expression dimmed. “Saving you was my duty. But as an officer, I shouldn’t have lost—I shouldn’t be this weak.”
Xiao Xiaoxiao wanted to comfort him, but Shen Yi’an spoke first.
“Why belittle yourself? Just because you lost?”
“Yes. I’m weak—I’m not worthy of being an officer,” Ye Zilin said.
“Heh~” Shen Yi’an let out a light laugh. “Then let me ask you—did you die?”
“Even if you’re weak, so what? You’re alive.” Shen Yi’an glanced at Xuesha, her voice turning cold. “And what about him? No matter how strong he was—he’s dead.”
“But…” Ye Zilin hesitated.
Shen Yi’an shrugged. “Alright, I’m not some motivational teacher. I won’t lecture you.”
Then she flicked Xiao Xiaoxiao’s forehead again.
“And you—if you bring your father wandering around like this again, I’ll break your legs. Got it?”
“I…” Xiao Xiaoxiao wanted to argue, but held it back. “Okay… I got it. Thank you, Sister Yi’an.”
“You two know each other?” Ye Zilin asked curiously.
They seemed quite familiar.
Shen Yi’an: “No.”
Xiao Xiaoxiao: “Yes.”
They answered at the same time—differently. Xiao Xiaoxiao puffed her cheeks.
“Sister Yi’an, we met before, at least once.”
“Did we? I forgot,” Shen Yi’an said expressionlessly.
Hearing this, Xiao Xiaoxiao felt a bit hurt. Was she really that forgettable?
Meanwhile, at a Jiuyou Association outpost—
Inside a dim, flashing private room, a group of people knelt on the ground.
They were all members of the Jiuyou Association.
They were usually imposing and fearsome, but now they were bruised, battered, and trembling in submission. Even their leader, Jiu Ye, knelt there shakily.
“Who sent people to kill Shen Yi’an?”
A cold voice rang out, making everyone present break into cold sweat.
“Miss Ye, that person is already dead,” Jiu Ye said.
“Who killed him?” Ye Yuyou continued coldly.
Jiu Ye hesitated before answering, “Another woman of Shen Yi’an.”
The moment those words fell, the entire room seemed to freeze over, the chill biting to the bone.
“What did you say?! Say that again!” Ye Yuyou’s eyes widened in disbelief. How could An’an possibly have another woman?!
“Yesterday, a woman came here for Shen Yi’an. She beat us all up and said only she had the right to deal with Shen Yi’an,” Jiu Ye explained.
“Bring up the surveillance footage!” A sense of crisis surged through Ye Yuyou. She instantly lost her composure—An’an was supposed to belong to her! How dare some insect try to steal her!
Her expression carried icy killing intent—anyone who met her gaze at that moment would feel as if death awaited them.
“Miss Ye, please calm down! I’ll get it right away!” Jiu Ye hurried off to retrieve the footage.
After a while, he returned, trembling. “M-Miss Ye, it’s ready… please take a look.”
Hearing this, Ye Yuyou immediately stood up from the sofa and strode toward the screen, her killing intent surging.
She would not allow anyone to love An’an more than her, nor take An’an away from her.
An’an could only belong to her.
She stared at the screen, carefully observing the figure in the footage.
But the moment she saw clearly—
Her overwhelming anger vanished instantly, replaced by a lovestruck smile.
Tall figure, silver hair with slanted bangs, and that irresistibly cold face—
Wasn’t that her An’an?
Honestly… she had gotten so jealous and worried for nothing~
“…” The dark-skinned woman standing nearby showed a speechless expression at how quickly her young miss’s attitude had changed.
At the same time, she grew curious about Shen Yi’an. Ye Yuyou had always been cold and aloof—it was hard to believe she would fall for someone, let alone become this obsessed.
Shen Yi’an… she really wanted to meet her someday.
With that thought, the dark-skinned woman glanced at the Jiuyou members, silently threatening them to forget everything they had just seen.
Naturally, the Jiuyou members lowered their heads obediently. Just recalling what had happened earlier made them shudder in fear.
Back then, this woman had charged in without a word, crushing everyone from the outside in—completely overwhelming. It was terrifying.
Kneeling there, Jiu Ye couldn’t make sense of it. From the information file alone, Shen Yi’an seemed utterly ordinary—so why were her pursuers so fanatical, so powerful, and backed by such terrifying influence?
That Wang Dachui had truly screwed him over. If he had known, he would’ve abandoned his principles and just robbed him outright.
“From now on, Shen Yi’an is your boss. Remember that,” Ye Yuyou said coldly as she deleted the surveillance footage. Without waiting for a response, she turned and walked out.
Jiu Ye didn’t feel any dissatisfaction—after all, he had already lost twice to Shen Yi’an’s “woman.”
“Behave yourselves when you work. Otherwise…” The dark-skinned woman paused at the door and made a throat-slitting gesture, then turned and left with a mischievous smile.
“Ah~ that scared the hell out of me. I thought I was done for,” the blond man collapsed onto the floor in relief after the two deadly beauties finally left.
“Didn’t expect the four great families to be far stronger than I imagined… looks like the five associations have been too arrogant,” Jiu Ye sighed as he looked around the wrecked private room. “What a pain… even my collector’s edition discs are gone.”
