The Seventh Elder stared at the result of the battle with wide eyes. He was shocked, but that shock quickly turned into pure joy. He moved like a flash of light, suddenly standing right in front of Tang Chen. He grabbed the young man's shoulders and asked urgently, "Tang Wei! Tell me, what happened? What went on inside that cloud of dust? How did Tang San just fall like that?"
Tang Chen laughed at the old man in his mind, but he made sure his face looked terrified and confused. He gulped loudly and shook his head while stammering. "Seventh Elder, I really don't know! When the dust went up, I couldn't see anything. It was all gray.
I only saw Tang San rolling around on the ground. He looked like he was in terrible pain, and then he just stopped moving. Do you think it was because he used that Ring Explosion skill? Maybe his body couldn't handle the power and it snapped back on him?"
This story was perfect because it made sure Tang Chen didn't look guilty. He blamed everything on the Ring Explosion and Tang San's own mental state.
The Seventh Elder didn't doubt him for a second. In fact, Tang Chen's words matched exactly what the Elder already thought. He threw his head back and laughed loudly at the ceiling. "Hahaha! Of course! That must be it! That brat thought he was so strong, trying to use the Ring Explosion. He even tried to explode a ten-thousand-year spirit ring! If he doesn't get hurt by that, who would? He got exactly what he deserved. That is what we call karma!"
He stopped laughing suddenly. He looked down at Tang San, who was lying in the dirt like a broken doll, with a look of pure disgust. Then, he turned his head fast and glared at Tang Xiao, who was sitting on the high platform with a very dark expression.
The Elder spoke in a loud voice that everyone could hear. "Sect Master! Everyone here heard the deal! Tang San said it himself. He said if he lost, he would accept any punishment we gave him. Since Tang Wei beat him, his life belongs to the winner and the Sect now!"
The Seventh Elder stepped forward, getting more excited as he spoke. "I think this kid has a rotten heart. He ruined our Sect's spirit and stole our secret skills. He can't be forgiven! I say we finish this now.
We should destroy his Clear Sky Hammer spirit and lock him in the back mountain caves until he dies of old age. That is the only way to keep the Sect's name clean and make things right for the people his father killed!"
"No! I won't allow it!" Tang Xiao shouted. His face went pale and he jumped to his feet. His voice sounded scratchy and desperate. "Seventh Elder, that is too much! Little San is the only child Brother Hao has left. He is the grandson of our last Sect Master! He is still just a boy who made some mistakes.
As his Elders, we should teach him and show him the right way. How can you be so mean? If I ruin his future and lock him up forever, how can I ever look Brother Hao in the eye? How can I face my father in the afterlife?"
The Seventh Elder laughed mockingly. "Teach him? Show him the way? Sect Master, stop lying to yourself! Look at him! Look at that ugly spirit he has! Look at those dark tricks he uses in a fight! This kid is rotten from the inside out. You can't fix someone like that. Keeping him around is just asking for trouble for the whole Sect!"
Tang Xiao didn't give up. He tried to think of any reason to save Tang San. "Little San has twin spirits. That is a very rare talent! If we can just fix the spirit ring problem on his hammer and let him focus on his training, he could become someone great."
"A great future?" the Seventh Elder yelled, cutting him off. "A Spirit Emperor who can't even beat a Spirit Ancestor has no future! Tang Xiao, wake up! Stop letting your feelings for your family make you blind. If we don't punish him hard today, the rest of the Sect will think we are weak. How can you explain this to the disciples?"
"I am the Sect Master, and I will make the final choice! This needs more thought!" Tang Xiao barked back.
"More thought? Are we going to wait until this kid ruins the Sect forever just like his father did? We need a choice today!" the Seventh Elder replied.
The two men argued back and forth. Their voices got louder and louder. They sounded like angry people at a market rather than leaders of a great Sect. They were standing in a hall that was still messy from the fight, arguing in front of all the young students. Neither side would give in.
As the fight between Tang Xiao and the Seventh Elder got worse, the air in the room felt heavy and tight. It looked like they might actually start fighting each other. Finally, the Second Elder, who had been quiet the whole time, opened his mouth to speak.
"Sect Master, the Seventh Elder is being loud, but he isn't wrong. This boy's heart is cold, and he has brought shame to the Clear Sky Hammer. No one in our history has ever made our spirit look so bad. If we don't follow the rules now, the rules won't mean anything anymore. We have to answer to our ancestors."
When the Second Elder spoke, it was like throwing gas on a fire. Everyone in the Sect respected him, and his words were very important.
Tang Xiao's face looked even worse now. He took a deep breath and tried to stay calm. "Second Elder, Seventh Elder! Let's put this aside for a few days. Don't forget that School Master Ning and the Bone Douluo are sitting right there.
We are supposed to be talking about making a team to fight Spirit Hall. That is much more important. Tang San is a Sect matter, and we can deal with him later." He was trying to use the visitors as an excuse to give Tang San some time to recover.
But as soon as he said that, all five Elders looked angry. Even the ones who hadn't said anything yet stood up. The Third Elder stepped forward and looked very annoyed. "Sect Master! What are you doing? Are you really going to protect this kid no matter what we say?"
"The rules of the Sect come first!" the Fourth Elder added in a deep voice. "We can't ignore our own laws just because we have guests."
All five Elders stood together now. They formed a line facing Tang Xiao. They were all Titled Douluo, and even though they weren't attacking, their power was leaking out. The pressure in the room became so strong it was hard to breathe. They were basically telling Tang Xiao that if he didn't punish Tang San, they might try to take his job away.
Tang Xiao felt the pressure. His face turned red, and his hands were shaking as he made fists. He was the Sect Master and very strong, but facing all five Elders at once made him feel very alone. He was trapped.
Just when it looked like things were going to turn into a disaster, a woman's voice rang out through the hall. It was Tang Yuehua. "Uncles! Please, stop being angry!"
She walked quickly into the middle of the room. She stood between her brother and the Elders and bowed very low. "I know you are all angry because you care about the Sect. But please try to understand my big brother. Tang San is his own family, and it is hard for him to be cold-hearted."
She changed her tone to sound more helpful. "I have an idea. Maybe you will listen to it?" She looked over at the unconscious Tang San on the floor. "Our Sect has a special skill called Ring Explosion. No one has been able to use it properly since our grandfather disappeared. Right now, the only person who knows how to do it is my second brother, Tang Hao. And he taught it to Little San."
She looked back at the Elders. "Why don't we wait for Little San to wake up? We can order him to give the Sect the instructions and the secrets of the Ring Explosion. He can pay for his mistakes by giving us back our lost treasure. What do you think?"
The Elders looked at each other. They started to think about it. The Ring Explosion was one of the most important skills the Clear Sky Sect ever had. If they could get it back today, the Sect would become much stronger.
But the Seventh Elder still grunted. "Hmph! That skill belongs to us anyway! He should give it back because it's the right thing to do. That shouldn't count as a way to escape punishment."
Tang Yuehua was ready for that answer. She spoke calmly. "You are right, Seventh Uncle. It does belong to the Sect. But think about this. If we hurt Tang San today, or if we destroy his spirit, do you think Tang Hao will ever talk to us again? He is a stubborn man. If we kill his son, he will take that secret to his grave. We might lose our grandfather's legacy forever."
That last sentence really hit the Elders hard. They realized she was right. If they pushed too hard and Tang San died or became a cripple, Tang Hao would become their enemy. They would never see the Ring Explosion skill again.
The Seventh Elder couldn't find anything to say back. He stood there with a sour look on his face. The whole room went quiet. No one expected Tang Yuehua to solve the problem so easily with a few smart words. Everyone was just looking at Tang San now.
Tang Xiao saw that the Elders were calming down. He knew this was his chance to end the fight. He stopped looking angry and acted like a leader again. "What Yuehua said is exactly what I was worried about. We have to think about what is best for the Sect in the long run. The Ring Explosion is our foundation. We cannot let it be lost."
He paused to let them think. "Let's do what she said. When Tang San wakes up, I will make him give us the secret. Because he ruined his spirit and acted badly, we will kick him out of the Sect once he is healed.
He will never be allowed to use the Clear Sky Hammer again. But we don't need to destroy his spirit. If we break a genius, we lose a part of our own bloodline. No one can deny he is a member of our family."
Tang Xiao's plan was fair. It punished Tang San but also got the Sect what it wanted. The Elders looked at each other again.
The Second Elder nodded slowly. "The Sect Master and Yuehua have a good point. The secret skill is more important than one boy. Let's do it. We get the formula first, and then we decide what to do with him."
Even the Seventh Elder didn't say no this time. He just snorted loudly. He hated Tang Hao, but he didn't want to be the reason the Sect lost its best skill forever.
Tang Xiao felt a huge weight lift off his shoulders. He turned to Ning Fengzhi and the Bone Douluo. He felt a bit embarrassed. He put his hands together and bowed. "School Master Ning, Bone Douluo, I am very sorry. You had to watch our family fight. I hope it didn't bore you too much. We can get back to business now."
Ning Fengzhi had been watching everything with a polite smile. He bowed back gracefully. "Sect Master Tang, don't worry about it. Every big family has its own problems. I understand completely. Now that things are settled, let's talk about Spirit Hall."
"Yes," Tang Xiao agreed. "Please, sit down. Let's talk."
Everyone moved away from Tang San. Two disciples came over and picked him up to carry him away. The Elders went back to their seats to talk about the alliance. The room felt professional again, and the anger was hidden away for now.
The Seventh Elder watched Tang San being carried out. He pretended to listen to the meeting, but his eyes were cold. He thought to himself, "Go ahead and live for a few more days, you little beast. Once you give us that skill and you aren't useful anymore, I will crush you like a bug. You will pay for everything your father did."
Half a day later, in a dark stone room in the back of the mountains, Tang San opened his eyes. He felt like his whole body was on fire. He tried to use his power, but it was blocked. He realized he was a prisoner, and his heart sank.
A disciple came in and told him the news. If he gave the Sect the Ring Explosion secret, he could live. If he didn't, they would break his spirit and throw him in a dark hole forever. Tang San was angry, but he knew he had to survive. He asked for paper and a pen. He also asked to see his uncle or his aunt to make sure they would keep the deal.
But it wasn't Tang Xiao or Tang Yuehua who walked through the door. A few minutes later, the heavy door creaked open. A man walked in who looked exactly like the Seventh Elder. It was his clothes, his face, and even his scary energy. But it wasn't the real Elder. It was Tang Chen in disguise.
The fake Elder looked annoyed. He threw the paper and pen on the table. "Boy, the Sect Master and your aunt are busy talking to the Seven Treasure School. They don't have time for you. I don't like you, but the Sect always keeps its word. Write the skill down now. I promise you, as an Elder, that if you give us the right formula, we will let you live. Don't try to be smart with me."
