...

Adal turned and ran. It was what his instincts told him to do.

At first, when he had focused on the man’s system, he could only see his name and level. Then, he focused further.

When he saw the man’s class and extensive list of skills, his body urged him desperately to escape the situation.

He wanted to stand there, but he couldn’t.

The way the man was looking around and glancing past the women suggested that he was looking for a man.

The man who had somehow stumbled across an artifact that might belong to him.

As quickly as he could, Adal ducked upstairs, trying his best to remain unseen by everybody.

He made it to the top floor and crouched behind one of the shelves. His chest was beating fast. He tried his best to compose himself, taking in deep breaths and letting them out.

If he could focus on his breathing, he would be able to come up with a plan.

That purple-haired man... Is it truly Dadon?

How did the god escape the heavens?

Was he ever really in the heavens, or was his domain located elsewhere?

Why is he here?

Adal peeked around the corner, trying to catch sight of the man. He scanned the library floor. Everything seemed normal.

Then, his body froze involuntarily.

He tried to move his head to look towards the approaching footsteps. It did not work, so he tried to activate his spells. Anything!

When that did not work, he realised that all hope had been lost.

He wondered if that would be his end. If his fate was to die on the top floor of the library, with so much left unachieved.

If so, then life truly was cruel.

...

Thud.

...

A gentle hand landed on his shoulder. It was light as a feather.

"Are you finished running now? I am sorry for trapping you. I do not like to run much. I am still getting used to having a body."

If the name didn’t confirm it, then the powers did, and if the powers also did not, then the man’s words most certainly did.

He still tried to turn his head to look at him, but it did not work.

"I am going to let you move again, okay? Please don’t run. I don’t want to hurt you. I want to help you."

Help me?

Is he bluffing?

...

No, it makes no sense for him to bluff. He is so much stronger than me that he would not benefit from it at all.

Adal felt his body’s movement coming back to him, and he chose not to run. He looked over at the man as he examined him better, now that he was closer up.

The peasant rags that he wore were brown. A long-sleeved shirt with baggy arms and a tight torso, and brown baggy pants, followed by worn-down sandals.

His face was a light shade of purple that looked natural. His eyes were a darker purple and seemed to stare into Adal’s soul. He was also tall, being only slightly shorter than Adal.

Adal had numerous weapons on his body. The Grimoire. His swords. His spells. He reached for none of them.

The man extended his hands for Adal to take.

"I am Dadonus. God of Entrapment, but you might better know me as Dadon. I had been trapped in my own realm for centuries, and only after you sent a man to my realm was I able to wake up. Thank you."

It was me that brought this god here?

Adal cursed himself. Why did trouble always seem to find him?

...

Wait a minute, the god claims that he wants no trouble. He claims that he wishes to help me?

"What are you here for?" He tried to keep his tone respectful. He did not need to anger the god any more than he might have already.

Dadonus rubbed his chin and looked upwards. Adal couldn’t help but think that his movements all seemed... comedic.

"I don’t know. I forgot? I guess I am here to help with whatever you need help with?"

"..."

Adal blinked a few times.

"You forgot?"

"Yup."

"..."

A voice came from the staircase. Someone had started to make their way upstairs.

"Adal, is everything alright up there? A visitor suddenly disappeared right after you did."

It was Penelope. She was dressed in her librarian outfit, looking beautiful as ever.

When she appeared, she looked at the two men back and forth. Then, she started reaching beneath her skirt.

Adal knew she had a knife kept under there. He had suggested it, after all.

"No, don’t!" he said, bringing the woman to a pause. "He is not dangerous."

I hope.

Dadonus shook his head and repeated, "I am not dangerous."

"Don’t worry, Penny. Head back downstairs and continue working. There is nothing to worry about."

The woman obeyed and made her way back downstairs, allowing Adal to return his focus to the fallen god.

There were many questions he wanted to ask him, but one in particular was at the front of his mind.

"Will you help me create an Outer Realm Gate?"
