Chapter 88: Black Widow
After fucking Juliette to sleep, cleaning her up, and leaving her on the second floor, Adal headed back downstairs and worked in the library until morning.
By then, the streets were bright, and people felt comfortable starting to head home. That left the library empty, with him alone on the bottom floor.
Penelope came out of her room and showered. On the way down to the first floor, she spotted Juliette still passed out on the cushion. Immediately, she knew what had most likely happened to the woman.
Adal had done similar things to her many times before.
Downstairs she met the man and greeted him with a smile on her face.
"Good morning, Adal. I see the library has finally emptied... I wonder, what will happen today?"
"Good morning, Penelope. In truth, we should expect turmoil. Even now you can hear a distant battle taking place near the palace. The sun elves are attempting to storm the council and claim the throne, and sooner or later, the Iglantians will arrive too."
He thought about the Iglantians and what they would do when they witnessed the Sun Elves’ greed.
He didn’t even bother mentioning the snow elves. That was just more complexity to add to the mix.
Penelope sighed and sat down in a chair. Her green hair was wet from her shower and cascaded over her shoulders, and the bust of her librarian outfit.
She looked beautiful, as always.
"So much stress." She sighed again. Then, she looked up to the second floor. "Is Juliette okay? She seemed so peaceful in her sleep."
Adal smirked.
Of course, she looked peaceful. Pleasure will do that to you.
He told her the real reason.
"Yes. Juliette has awakened."
"..."
Penelope’s eyes went wide, and she stared at Adal for a few moments.
"Awakened... How?"
Adal shrugged his shoulders.
"I’m sure she will tell you the details. I cannot be certain why she awakened, I only know that it was connected to her ability to show care to others and her devotion to me."
Penelope nodded her head slowly, but her eyes trailed off.
"I... I see."
The woman was not jealous of Juliette. She was proud of her friend, and happy that she had been given the chance to explore the realm of magic and powers.
But her main thought was, why hadn’t she awakened? Was she not devoted enough to Adal, or caring enough towards others?
Perhaps it is because of my past. No matter how much I try to change, what I have done will always come back to bite me.
She was drawn from her thoughts by Adal’s hand on her chin. He raised her head softly, so that she was forced to stare into his piercing blue eyes.
"Do not be depressed, Penelope. Your time will come, if The Mother wills it."
Her sadness was drawn from her. She couldn’t help but smile sweetly at her lover.
However, their moment was cut short when suddenly, the door opened and a woman stumbled inside.
Penelope’s eyes widened, and she felt like she had recognised the woman from before. She believed it was one of Adal’s women.
Her hair was blonde and straight, and her face was mature and beautiful. Her eyes were sky blue and on her smooth cheek was a singular beauty spot.
As for her body, she was tall and voluptuous. Her white dress struggled to contain her giant breasts which spilt over the top, and her generous behind which pulled the fabrics clothes tight against her.
When she stepped into the library, she was out of breath, as though she had been running to get here.
Adal raised a brow at the woman as she approached.
"Colette, what brings you here so early? Don’t you know the streets are dangerous?you should be at home." He said sternly.
The woman wasted no time before speaking.
"Adal, we need to talk... I think... I think I have awakened!" She said with fear in her tone.
Adal was taken aback.
Awakened? Two of my women awakened, back to back...
He glanced over and Penelope, and saw that the sadness had returned to her. If she was not jealous before, then now, she certainly was.
He sighed quietly.
I will have to deal with that later. Meanwhile, I should question Colette.
"Penelope, can you handle things down here for a moment? If there’s trouble, shout for me."
The green-haired woman nodded her head, but kept her face straight. "Okay."
Afterwards, Adal took Colette upstairs and asked her to explain the details of her awakening to him.
~~~
The woman explained the process to him in detail.
After the death of her husband, Richard Banker, Colette had a life much better than she ever had before. Not only had she inherited the man’s wealth and started giving it away, but she was also rid of the main problem in her life.
She continued with her days feeling no guilt for what she had done, and at first, she thought that this was fine.
Until that morning.
Colette had woken up to find that she had awakened the class Black Widow.
If it were only the Widow class, then there would have been no problem. Many women had awakened such a class in the past. However, since the word black was before it, the class was seen as an evil one.
She was given access to skills related to deceit and manipulation.
When Adal heard this, and read her system, he thought there was nothing wrong with it. As long as he was able to consistently read her skills so that he would not fall into her deceit, he thought that it was a valuable class to have, and knew that he might have uses for her in the future.
However, at heart, Colette was a good woman. One who often donated to charities, and wanted to do good in the world.
In her mind, this was the worst thing ever.
It took Adal a while to convince her that this wasn’t the case.
"Colette, the system works in mysterious ways. Trust me, I understand this first-hand. However, there is one thing that I am certain of. It can always be used for our benefit. If we are to believe that the System is gifted to us by The Mother, then she sees everything and knows what is in our hearts. She has given you this class for a reason, and I am here to guide you so that you might some day find out why."
The more he spoke, the more light was returned to the woman’s eyes.
It did not take long for her frown to turn to a smile.
"Thank you, Mister Librarian. So, what should I do about choosing my first skills?"
