Chapter 1745 - 1744: An Unintentional Outcome
Among these people, it was the tall and skinny guy who suffered the least pain.
Compared to the others who were hit by the Mind Soul Art, the wound on his wrist was nothing but a scratch!
After trembling to his feet, he still didn’t know what happened to his companions.
But he could guess it was Ling Feng’s doing, so he looked at him in fear, "Wh-who are you?"
"Definitely not an ordinary person!"
Ling Feng sneered, then asked, "Are you guys from this neighborhood?"
"Y-yes!"
The tall and skinny guy lost his earlier arrogance and answered carefully.
"How do you usually make a living? You aren’t just out robbing and stealing, are you?" Ling Feng continued to ask.
"No!"
The tall and skinny guy shook his head, "We’re not thugs."
"Then what do you do?" Ling Feng asked.
"..."
The tall and skinny guy looked troubled, glanced at Ling Feng, and asked in a pleading tone, "Sir, we know we provoked the wrong person, can you just let us go?"
"I was planning to let you go, but your evasive words clearly show you’re hiding something. Do you think I can let you off?"
Ling Feng sneered again, reached out, and grabbed his neck, "Speak, who are you really?"
As soon as he finished speaking, he saw a scene from the man’s mind!
It was the sight of these people in a smoke-filled, massive underground room.
Now Ling Feng understood, and he sneered, "So you run an underground casino?"
He thought it was something more secretive, but it turned out to be just a group engaged in illegal activities. The guy didn’t dare to say anything for fear that his boss would punish him if the casino was exposed.
Ling Feng lost interest immediately, let go, and tossed the tall and skinny guy aside.
But on second thought, he recalled something and asked, "You guys must be the local big shots, right?"
"Yes, yes...."
The tall and skinny guy was stunned. He didn’t say anything, so how did this man know about the casino?
Now when he looked at Ling Feng, his eyes were full of awe, not daring to play any tricks.
Ling Feng nodded, "Since that’s the case, I have something to ask you!"
After speaking, he looked around. Seeing the alley was in disarray and there was no suitable place to sit, he took a chair out of his bracelet and placed it on the ground.
Sitting down, Ling Feng crossed his legs and stared at the dumbfounded tall and skinny guy, "What’s your name?"
"I-I’m Jess."
"Alright, Jess, let me ask you, has anything strange happened locally lately?" Ling Feng asked.
"Uh..."
Jess was confused, bewildered, "I-I don’t understand what you mean. What strange things do you want to know about?"
"Like disappearances or something particularly unusual. Aren’t you, local big shots, the most informed?" Ling Feng asked.
"Well..."
Jess understood, thought for a moment, and then said, "From what I know, nothing much is happening in Washington D.C., just some occasional gang fights over territory, which you wouldn’t be interested in, sir."
"I’m only interested in disappearances. Haven’t you heard anything?" Ling Feng asked.
Jess thought for a while, "There is one piece of news, but I only heard it today. I’m not sure if it’s true!"
"Oh? Let’s hear it!"
Ling Feng perked up immediately, sitting up straight.
Jess, unsure of Ling Feng’s purpose, swallowed and said, "A gambler mentioned today that someone named George disappeared mysteriously!"
"George?"
Ling Feng felt disappointed.
He thought it was information about Catherine, but it turned out to be about a stranger, and his interest waned instantly.
Seeing Ling Feng’s expression, Jess quickly added, "This George is special. He’s the last of the Gick family. If he dies, there’s no one to inherit the family’s assets worth tens of millions of US Dollars!"
"Oh, what does the Gick family do?" Ling Feng asked, seemingly disinterested.
"I heard they were archaeologists long ago. Then the family produced a university professor and two treasure hunters. The family’s wealth came from trading antiques," Jess replied.
Hearing this, Ling Feng perked up again, "That university professor, wouldn’t happen to be named Joseph, would he?"
"You know him?"
Jess was startled, then nodded, "Yes, his name is Joseph Gick!"
"....."
Ling Feng thought, good thing I asked!
The envelope brought by Chen Fei’s family had an address in Georgia State, not Washington D.C.!
Now he realized Joseph’s descendants had moved here. Had he not heard about George Gick’s disappearance, he might have wasted a trip to Georgia!
But hearing about the disappearance of Joseph’s only descendant, Ling Feng felt puzzled.
He wanted to ask more, but two people walked by the alley entrance, glanced over, reached for their waists, and shouted while approaching, "What’s going on here?"
Seeing two police officers coming over, Jess shivered and glanced at Ling Feng.
Ling Feng didn’t mind, turned to look at the officers, saw their flashlights on him, and felt anger rising, then he immediately used the Mind Soul Art!
With a thud, the two obese officers collapsed instantly, lying still on the ground.
Jess was astounded. Such a powerful technique, he had only seen in movies, so he swallowed hard, not daring to meet Ling Feng’s eyes.
After the police interruption, Ling Feng stood up, put away the chair, and looked at Jess’s companions lying on the ground, "Get up already, you don’t have a headache anymore, why are you still lying there?"
Those people didn’t dare move initially, but upon hearing Ling Feng’s words, they felt as if they were pardoned and quickly got to their feet.
Ling Feng looked at them, then at Jess, "You stay, let them go!"
"Ah, I, I..."
Jess almost cried, thinking he might die in this alley tonight.
Seeing his nervousness, Ling Feng quickly said, "It’s not convenient to talk here. Come with me, I have questions for you. Answer well, and not only will I not harm you, but I’ll also reward you!"
"Oh..."
Jess heaved a sigh of relief and turned to his men, "You all go back first."
Those men had already surrendered, afraid to utter a word, and immediately scattered like birds.
Then Ling Feng led Jess out of the alley, not even glancing at the two unconscious officers on the ground.
Once they were far away, the officers got up, rubbed their still aching heads, looked around the alley in confusion, completely forgetting what had happened.
Meanwhile, Ling Feng had brought Jess back to the hotel room, and after sitting down he said, "Now, tell me about George’s disappearance!"
