The Greatest Village Doctor In The World

Chapter 1744 - 1743: Robbery?

After pondering for a moment, Ling Feng said to Rick, "Your advice is useful. Here’s the plan: you go back and rest. We’ll keep in touch by phone if anything comes up. Don’t stick around me too much, or others might get suspicious."

"Alright, I’ll head out then."

Rick nodded, said nothing more, and turned to leave the room.

After he left, Ling Feng sat down, leaned back on the sofa, and fell into deep thought.

It’s no use being anxious now. Catherine should be fine. Especially at times like these, I must remain calm and not mess up!

After a long time in thought, it was suddenly deep into the night. Seeing that it was past eleven o’clock, Ling Feng took out his phone and found Smack’s number.

To his surprise, the call connected immediately.

Smack’s voice came through: "Mr. Ling, you’re looking for me?"

"That’s right!"

Ling Feng nodded and said with a smile, "I didn’t expect Mr. Smack to still be awake at this hour!"

"Hmm?"

Smack was taken aback but then understood: "You’re in America?"

Now it was Ling Feng’s turn to be confused, and he asked puzzledly, "What? Aren’t you here?"

"I’m in Huaxia!"

Smack said, then continued, "It’s noon over here. You asking if I haven’t gone to sleep yet proves you’re in America, right?"

"Alright then."

Ling Feng was at a loss for words and quickly asked, "Why did you go to Huaxia, and when did you go?"

"I arrived two days ago. I’m in Demon Capital now, planning to fly over to your side tonight, but you’re not even there!" Smack said.

"...."

Ling Feng chuckled ruefully, then asked, "What are you doing over at my place?"

"Of course, it’s about the factory setup. Didn’t we sign the agreements? I need to go check out the site, and it’s also a good chance to promote the new factory!" Smack said.

Ling Feng knew he was a shrewd businessman and very adept at showmanship, so he didn’t ask further, but sighed helplessly and said, "Alright, since you’re not here, let’s forget it. I was going to ask you for a favor, but since you’re not around, I’ll figure something else out!"

Smack paused for a moment and then asked, "Did Mr. Ling encounter some trouble in America? Even if I’m not there, I can still help!"

"Really?"

Ling Feng thought for a moment, then asked, "A friend of mine disappeared mysteriously. Can you help me investigate?"

"Disappeared?"

Smack considered it, then asked, "What’s their name, where did they disappear, and do you have a specific time?"

"I do!"

Ling Feng told him Catherine’s name, and Smack was somewhat astonished: "She actually disappeared?"

"It’s already happened, so don’t be surprised. Help me think about how to find her!" Ling Feng said.

"Alright, I’ll arrange for someone to look into it immediately!"

Smack didn’t hesitate and immediately agreed.

Ling Feng was somewhat taken aback, not expecting him to agree so readily.

However, in the spirit of caution, he didn’t say much more, just thanked him and hung up.

Considering their past grievances, this quick transition to unwavering support made Ling Feng feel that something was unreliable.

Despite his fondness for making friends and meeting many brothers, Smack was not someone to consider as a friend right now!

Though it was midnight, Ling Feng was jet-lagged and didn’t feel sleepy at all. After sitting idly in the room for a moment, feeling bored, he directly pushed the door open and left.

After leaving the hotel, Ling Feng walked on the deserted midnight streets, his heart feeling like a tangled mess.

As he walked, he strayed away from the main road and into a small alley.

It wasn’t until he found himself blocked by two groups of people from the front and back that Ling Feng stopped, realizing that this wasn’t his country but Washington D.C. in America!

The security here was notoriously poor; someone wandering alone at night could easily get into trouble!

Isn’t that just the case now?

Looking at the two groups surrounding him — three in the front, four at the back — all wearing hoodies that covered most of their faces, Ling Feng thought to himself, looks like I’ve run into local thugs.

So he stared at them and asked in a deep voice, "What do you want?"

"Hey man, an Oriental! Nothing much, just want to borrow a bit of money from you!" said the tall, skinny leader with a lazy swagger.

Judging by their demeanor and the way they spoke, Ling Feng could tell what kind of people they were.

They were clearly the bottom feeders of American society, notoriously poorly reputed as African-Americans!

To speak about this country, it indeed had quite severe internal conflicts, rife with racism and severe racial tensions.

It’s said there’s a chain of contempt based on skin color — whites look down on blacks, blacks look down on people of color, and among them, those with yellow skin are the most despised.

However, in between, the people from Dongying and Bangzi Country hold a slightly higher status than Chinese.

Back when Ling Feng heard about this, he couldn’t help but scoff and wonder what went through foreigners’ minds.

But after being here and experiencing a few situations, he indeed felt that unless you live in a mansion or drive a luxury sports car, they really don’t think much of you!

Now facing seven black men trying to rob him, Ling Feng thought, what bad luck these guys must have walking into me?

After hearing what they said, Ling Feng chuckled: "Sorry, but I don’t have a habit of carrying cash when going out, so I can’t help you guys!"

"Kid, that’s a terrible excuse. No money when going out? You must be joking!"

The tall skinny guy sneered, flipping open a folding dagger with his palm: "Cut the crap, hand over the money!"

"I told you I don’t have any. If you don’t believe me, feel free to check!"

Ling Feng looked innocent, slightly raising his hands and showing his pockets.

The tall skinny guy, full of disbelief, emboldened by his companions, stepped forward and reached into Ling Feng’s pockets to check.

That got Ling Feng annoyed, thinking to himself, ’You think you can just touch me if you want?’

So without another word, he turned his palm into a blade and struck fiercely at the guy’s wrist!

The tall skinny guy, never anticipating this, was instantly hit on his wrist. The folding dagger fell to the ground, and he let out a howl of pain!

"Clatter!"

In just a moment, four of the six people pulled out guns, pointing them directly at Ling Feng’s head!

Luckily, they didn’t fire immediately, or they’d certainly die miserably!

Seeing these people pointing guns at him, Ling Feng squinted his eyes, smirked, and said, "Courting death!"

Immediately, the Mind Soul Art activated, and all six of them screamed and fell to the ground.

Ling Feng bent down to pick up a few guns, found them of decent quality, and smilingly put them into his bracelet, "I’ll take these, thanks a lot!"

Then he retracted the Mind Soul Art, kicked the tall skinny guy, and said, "Get up, I have questions for you!"
