Chapter 1730 - 1729: Waiting
After speaking, he looked at everyone, thought for a bit, and said, "There’s no need for so many people to guard here. Let the police leave first, just leave one or two from the safety bureau. I’ll take over!"
"Then I’ll stay!"
The young man with glasses said, glancing at his colleague, then spoke to one of the curly-haired women, "Xiao Wang, you stay too!"
"Okay!"
Chen Fei also agreed with Ling Feng’s suggestion, so the police began to retreat, while Ling Feng looked at the young man, "Brother, how should I address you?"
The other party smiled, "Mr. Ling, you’re too polite. I’m Xu Mu, just call me Xiao Xu. This is Wang Youyou; we’re both staff from Yangjing County."
Ling Feng nodded and then said, "This incident is a bit strange. As I’ve said, abnormal creatures are appearing nationwide; there will always be a few troublesome cases, and we’ve encountered just that!"
"I’d rather call you Director Ling. In your opinion, what animal is this?" Xu Mu asked.
"Not sure yet, but I’ve seen some clues at the hospital. This creature seems very unusual; it can implant something into people by using a hexing method, then absorb human vitality through it. It’s definitely not something good!" Ling Feng said.
"People are already at the hospital, yet it’s still absorbing?"
Xu Mu froze for a moment and then asked, "Could this thing be near the hospital? Otherwise, how can it absorb from a distance?"
"I used to think that way too, but later found out that villagers were not hospitalized simultaneously; they were sent to the hospital at different intervals, sometimes hours apart. This suggests the entity must have some other method and is probably nearby!" Ling Feng replied.
"Director Ling means that it hasn’t caught enough people to provide itself with more energy?"
Xu Mu, being smart, immediately gleaned Ling Feng’s thoughts from his words.
Ling Feng gave him an approving glance and nodded, "I’ve controlled the situation at the hospital, blocking the energy flow. If it’s absorbing energy nearby, it won’t succeed!"
"Understood!"
Xu Mu nodded and continued, "Let’s wait in the village tonight; if there aren’t enough people, that thing should act fast."
"Exactly!"
Ling Feng nodded and turned to Chen Fei, "Sis, you go rest in the car first. I’ll find a place to sit; tonight might be like staying up for the New Year, without sleep!"
"Then you should sit in the car too; I won’t disturb you!" Chen Fei promptly said.
"Alright then!"
Ling Feng nodded and turned to Xu Mu and Wang Youyou, "Where’s your car? Why not park together, so we can support each other if anything happens!"
"Sure, we’ll drive over right away!"
Xu Mu knew Ling Feng was being polite; if something happened, how could mere support be needed?
Still, this arrangement was thoughtful, warming both Xu Mu and Wang Youyou’s hearts; they felt this legendary figure was approachable and friendly!
Back in the car, Chen Fei looked at Ling Feng, "You’ve worked hard!"
"Don’t say that, you’re always so polite, it’s completely unnecessary!"
Ling Feng chuckled, pulled her by the shoulder, and Chen Fei leaned into his embrace.
After a moment of closeness, she asked, "Everything going well in America?"
"Not bad!"
Ling Feng nodded and shared with her some things not visible online.
After hearing, Chen Fei raised her head in surprise, "You actually found the Crystal Skull?"
"Yeah, what’s up?"
Seeing her surprise, Ling Feng asked curiously.
"It’s a long story, I have some understanding of the Crystal Skull!" Chen Fei said.
Ling Feng paused and quickly asked, "No way? How do you know?"
"This must start with my grandfather!"
With nothing happening temporarily, Chen Fei opened up and explained the reason.
It turned out, her grandfather was a university teacher before liberation, had befriended several visiting American professors, and became close friends with one.
He left quite a few diaries, recording his interactions with those friends, including matters about the Crystal Skull.
But due to time passing, Chen Fei had forgotten some content, only remembering the Crystal Skull.
Upon hearing this, Ling Feng was thrilled, immediately asking, "Do you still have the diaries?"
"Yes, they’re in the basement at my house, I’ll show them to you when we return!" Chen Fei answered.
"Great!"
Ling Feng nodded, keeping the matter in his mind.
As time went by, Chen Fei leaned in his arms pretending to sleep, inadvertently dozing off.
Ling Feng remained still, his Divine Sense locked on the vicinity. Any slight movement would be known instantly.
But until midnight, there was no movement near the village, and he grew somewhat impatient.
At twelve o’clock, a patch of dark clouds floated in the sky, obscuring the moon.
At this moment, Tian Lian’s voice suddenly came to Ling Feng’s mind, "Master, I sense something approaching the village!"
"Hm?"
Ling Feng paused, quickly asking in his mind, "What is it? Why didn’t my Divine Sense detect it?"
"It’s not a physical entity, but some kind of energy being; your Divine Sense can’t detect it!" Tian Lian replied.
"Is that so? Can you handle it? If so, help me capture it without killing!"
Not wanting to wake Chen Fei, Ling Feng said.
"Sure!"
Tian Lian replied, then with a flicker of light, her form was outside the car.
Moments later, Tian Lian’s figure vanished, heading swiftly towards the west side of the village.
Ling Feng smiled, thinking if she can handle it, that would be ideal, saving him the trouble!
Originally expecting no major commotion, but soon, there was sudden lightning and thunder from the village’s west, followed by deafening beastly roars!
This jarred Chen Fei awake, sitting up in bewilderment, looking out the car window, "What’s happening?"
"Quite the commotion!"
Ling Feng smiled wryly, seeing Xu Mu and Wang Youyou were out of the car, he said, "Let’s go, that monster’s surfaced, my subordinate is dealing with it, let’s go check it out!"
His Divine Sense had detected what was happening on the village’s west side, but Chen Fei and others hadn’t seen it yet, so he got out and led the trio towards the village’s west end!
