Chapter 706: Mission
Ling Feng’s explanation did not win the trust of the other party, and the dagger was still pressed against An Xue’s neck. The girl asked in a deep voice, "Speak, who are you all?"
"My name is Ling Feng, and her name is An Xue. We accidentally entered the island and stayed there for three days before finding a way to teleport away. It was really an accident!" Ling Feng helplessly shook his head.
"The island? What island? Where is it?" The girl continued to ask.
Ling Feng spread his hands, "About that, I’m not clear either. Otherwise, how about this? If you’re not at ease, why not call the police?"
He thought to himself that since he couldn’t explain it clearly, he might as well find the police, and in the meantime, contact the local security bureau to prove his innocence through the organization.
But the girl just gave him a look, "Police? I am one!"
"Damn!"
The moment Ling Feng heard that, he couldn’t help but curse, thinking how could this be such a coincidence?
"Hmph, are you scared now? I knew you were no good!"
The girl asked with a cold laugh after hearing Ling Feng swear.
Ling Feng, feeling helpless, looked at her, "Since you’re a police officer, why so tense? Put down the dagger. Do you think we would dare do anything to a police officer?"
"You think I want to? I can’t even discern your realm, how else can I guarantee my own safety without taking a hostage?" the girl asked.
Ling Feng was completely speechless and had no solution, "Fine then, you’re a police officer, so you should know the security bureau, right?"
As he spoke, he took out his own ID and threw it on the ground, "Look at this, you should believe me now!"
The girl was skeptical and did not move.
Ling Feng couldn’t be bothered with her anymore and looked at An Xue, "Don’t be scared, I’m here."
"I’m not scared."
An Xue nodded, her eyes filled with trust.
The girl thought for a moment and then let go, picking up the ID from the ground.
After flipping it open and seeing the military rank and level on it, she looked up in shock, "You are Ling Feng?"
"Didn’t I just say so?" Ling Feng asked with a frown.
"I thought it was just a coincidence of name, but it really is you!"
The girl put down the dagger and respectfully passed the ID back, "Sorry, I was too nervous before."
"It’s okay, I can understand. Anyone would be extremely nervous if two people suddenly popped up in their home," Ling Feng said with a smile as he took back the ID and casually pulled An Xue into his arms.
He then asked, "I heard that this is South Sea Province, but where exactly are we?"
"This is South Sea City, the capital of South Sea Province," the girl answered.
Having said that, she suddenly remembered something and snapped to attention, saluting Ling Feng, "Good day, sir, I am a detective from the South Sea City security bureau sub-branch, Du Jiali!"
"Hello."
Ling Feng nodded and then inquired, "How come there’s a teleportation array in your house?"
"About that..."
Du Jiali hesitated for a moment and then said, "I’m sorry, this is a family secret, and I can’t disclose it to you, sir."
"Family?"
Ling Feng paused for a second, "Does your family actually have a teleportation array?"
"Yes, you are the first to know about it. It was a significant secret of mine, but now I have no choice but to reveal it. However, I hope you can keep it a secret for me," Du Jiali said.
Ling Feng was speechless, originally thinking that the teleportation array was something only he possessed, but now he realized others knew how to use it as well!
Just then, Du Jiali’s phone rang. She excused herself and quickly answered it.
Afterwards, her expression became a bit strange, and she handed the phone to Ling Feng, "Sir, it’s for you."
"Oh."
Ling Feng thought that Li Shiyun wanted to talk to him about something, so he took the call and asked, "What’s up?"
"What’s up? You disappeared for several days, and you’re asking me what’s up?" Chen Ping asked irritably.
"Oh, Director Chen, how did you know this number? Did Shiyun tell you?" Ling Feng asked with a bitter smile.
"Yes, I intended to locate you through this number, but to my surprise, it was in the database. I realized it must be an internal number, so I called you directly. You are in the South Sea, aren’t you?" Chen Ping asked.
"Yes!"
Chen Ping, "Well, good, there just happens to be a mission. You go take a look!"
Ling Feng, "..."
He was speechless. A mission right after getting back—this leader really had a way with timing!
"What, speechless? Don’t blame me. It’s because you’re the closest. The higher-ups handed down the assignment, and I was wondering who to send. And there you were, in the South Sea, right where you’re needed!" Chen Ping said.
"Alright then, what’s the mission?" Ling Feng asked, resigned.
Chen Ping, "There’s been a severe energy fluctuation on an unknown island in the South Pacific, and the higher-ups suspect that something valuable might have emerged. So they want someone to investigate!"
Ling Feng’s heart throbbed, "Uh, do you have the exact location and some general information on that island?"
"The satellite images have been sent to Du Jiali. Take a look in a bit."
No sooner had Chen Ping said this than Du Jiali turned around, picked up a tablet, and pulled up the received information.
As soon as he saw it, Ling Feng’s eyes bulged.
An Xue was equally shocked, instinctively covering her mouth!
"Hello? Why aren’t you talking?" Chen Ping asked upon hearing the silence from Ling Feng’s end.
"Director Chen, let’s cancel the mission. No need to investigate!"
Ling Feng said with a bitter smile.
"Why?"
Ling Feng exasperated, "Because I caused that energy fluctuation. I’ve just come back from that island..."
"..."
Now it was Chen Ping’s turn to be silent!
After a while, he let out a sigh, "I see. Then come back as soon as possible and give me a detailed report. Explain exactly what happened!"
"Understood, thank you for your concern, leader!"
Ling Feng said with a laugh.
"Stop beating around the bush, I wasn’t concerned about you. I know you’d be fine even if you disappeared. What’s there to worry about?"
After saying that, Chen Ping hung up the phone.
Ling Feng rolled his eyes and handed the phone back to Du Jiali.
"Your relationship with the boss seems pretty good, huh?" Du Jiali asked with a half-smile.
"It’s okay, just that the old man is a bit irritable, that’s all!" Ling Feng shrugged.
After looking at An Xue and then at Du Jiali, Ling Feng said with a smile, "Since it’s just us, I won’t be polite. Do you have any clothes at home? My sister needs to change. She’s been wearing this wetsuit for days!"
"Sure!"
Du Jiali agreed without hesitation and then looked at Ling Feng, "Then could you please step out for a moment?"
"Oh, right!"
Ling Feng nodded and quickly stepped out the door.
The living room was outside, with a massive floor-to-ceiling window that offered a view of the street outside. Ling Feng walked over to the bed and gazed at the cityscape under the night sky.
After spending three days on the island, he almost felt like he was turning into a caveman. Suddenly being back in the city, his mood instantly relaxed.
However, just as he relaxed for a minute, he heard a cry of surprise from inside the room!
