Chapter 693: Another Spirit Stone
Ling Yao had thought that Ling Yao would immediately agree, but unexpectedly, she curled her lip: "What’s so fun about that thing? If I want to see what’s underwater, I just close my eyes, that’s it!"
"Uh..."
Ling Feng was helpless.
There was no other way, so he had to thicken his face and say in a pleasing manner, "I know my sister is amazing, but I don’t have that skill, do I? How about you treat it as helping me fulfill my diving dream?"
"..."
Ling Yao seemed hesitant and not that willing to agree.
Seeing this, An Xue also joined in pleading, "Sister, please help out. With you there, I’ll feel safe going into the water."
"Well, alright then!"
Seeing that she had spoken up, Ling Yao nodded.
Ling Feng wore an expression that said he couldn’t believe it, thinking to himself that it seemed girls had more face in front of her, while he was just nothing!
But then he thought it didn’t matter. There was no point in dwelling on it. Seeing that Ling Yao had agreed, he quickly went to tinker with the diving apparatus.
The thing was a big sphere; normally, it would be kept on a boat and operated with a crane for deployment and retrieval.
But now, given the environment, they could only use its autonomous mode.
The submersible had two fine treads below, and on the side, there were auxiliary wheels to keep it from tipping over, so it could walk a distance on the coastline.
Of course, this would consume electricity.
Ling Feng was the first to jump into the submersible, followed soon after by Ling Yao, who just appeared beside him without needing to use the entrance.
Seeing this, he couldn’t help but feel envious and couldn’t resist asking, "Sis, can I learn this ability to control space from you?"
Ling Yao fastened her seatbelt and gave him a look, "Don’t even think about it, my ability is innate and can’t be taught!"
"Alright then!"
Ling Feng reluctantly began to work the control panel in front of him.
By this time, An Xue had already changed into her diving suit. Through the glass, her sleek body curves could be seen. Standing on the shore, the sea breeze tussled her hair, making her look like a nymph.
Ling Feng dared not look too much, knowing that a few more glances would certainly provoke Ling Yao’s mockery, so he pressed the joystick and the submersible slowly entered the water!
"Have you figured it all out? Don’t sink and not be able to float once underwater, or I’ll have to help you out," Ling Yao said.
"Don’t worry, I’ve understood it all!"
Ling Feng smiled and accelerated the speed.
The machine was quite simple to operate. One joystick controlled direction, and the other controlled ascent and descent. After testing it out a few times upon entering the water, Ling Feng had mastered the controls.
As the submarine descended, the light began to dim.
An Xue swam past the window, waving to the two of them and greeting them!
Seeing her without any breathing equipment, Ling Feng was filled with envy: "That’s really impressive, I wish I could do that too!"
Ling Yao caught the flaw in his words and glanced at him, "Why do you want to learn everyone’s abilities? So greedy!"
"Hehe, a man can never have too many skills!"
Ling Feng smiled and continued to steer the submersible to the sea floor.
The light here was a bit dim, but the visibility was definitely not a problem. You could see many marine creatures outside, various species of fish whose names I couldn’t recall, as well as crabs scuttling across the sandy bottom.
These things no longer caught Ling Feng’s attention, because in the Fourth Layer Heaven, he had already seen crabs, octopuses, and other creatures dozens of times larger!
An Xue didn’t go far. She followed the submersible closely, holding an underwater rifle, vigilantly watching the surroundings.
After looking at her for a while, Ling Feng couldn’t help but ask, "Sis, doesn’t she look like a mermaid?"
"Wasn’t she originally?" Ling Yao retorted.
"Uh, she’s human, you know, mermaids are just stuff of legends!" Ling Feng replied with a wry smile.
Ling Yao’s lips curled up, but she said nothing.
After a while, she suddenly asked, "By the way, don’t you want to find a Spirit Stone?"
Ling Feng turned his head, "Can we do it now? I’m worried that An Xue isn’t quite used to it yet."
"She’s adapted quicker than you. Let’s go, we’ll lead the way!"
Ling Yao said as she pointed ahead to the left: "There’s one over there."
"Is it one of those as big as a soccer ball? I’m not so interested in the small ones anymore," Ling Feng inquired.
"You’re getting a bit cocky now, huh? What’s wrong with the small ones? Those are also top quality!" Ling Yao gave him a disdainful look.
"But I feel like I have enough, what do I need so many small ones for?" Ling Feng asked as he operated the submarine.
"You may not need them now, but that doesn’t mean you won’t need them later. You still haven’t learned to prepare for a rainy day," Ling Yao said in a tone that was a bit of a scold.
Ling Feng didn’t want to argue with her, so he just smiled and remained silent.
Not far ahead there was a slope, and beyond it lay an even deeper seabed.
He glanced at the depth gauge, noting that the water there was already more than twenty meters deep, with extremely strong water pressure below. He wondered if An Xue could handle it.
As Ling Feng descended the slope, he watched An Xue outside the window. She seemed to guess his intentions, and thus she flashed a radiant smile and gave an OK gesture.
The message was clear: I can adapt, don’t worry!
"That’s pretty awesome!"
Ling Feng said, full of admiration.
At the bottom of the slope, the light had dimmed significantly. Ling Yao pointed ahead, "See that, that dark thing over there? The Spirit Stone as big as a soccer ball is inside of it!"
"Alright, let’s go have a look. If there’s something guarding it, we can cover for An Xue," Ling Feng nodded.
The submarine was equipped with sonar interference devices and strong lights. Should they encounter dangerous underwater creatures, they could use those to scare them off.
A few minutes later, the submarine approached the area, and under the lights, Ling Feng saw the dark mass Yao mentioned—it was a huge clump of seaweed!
This thing was quite large; if it were on land, it would probably cover the area of two basketball courts.
Seeing this, Ling Feng was somewhat taken aback, "An Xue won’t get tangled in the seaweed, will she?"
"Just watch, you’ll know in a second!" Ling Yao said confidently.
Indeed, An Xue didn’t pay any mind to the seaweed. Holding her rifle, she slightly moved her long legs, and her whole body charged forward!
Ling Feng’s heart was in his throat, thinking, just don’t let anything happen, or I wouldn’t know how to rescue you!
Fortunately, a moment later, a figure flashed, and An Xue emerged from the seaweed.
At the same time, the bag at her waist was bulging, indicating she had gotten her hands on another Spirit Stone!
Ling Feng slapped his thigh, "Well done!"
Now he knew that investing in An Xue was absolutely worth it!
But his joy lasted only half a second before he saw a pair of blood-red eyes dart out from behind An Xue!
Ling Feng’s eyes widened, and he immediately made a danger signal to her!
An Xue too sensed the change in the water current, and she swiftly turned around, firing a burst of bullets at the shark that had just poked its head out!
Ling Feng watched in shock as a string of water splashed out, followed by a few spots of blood blossoming on the shark’s forehead, after which it quickly turned tail and fled!
