Chapter 448 - 446:A conceptual battle
Sulvan appeared almost at the exact same moment the others did, Malachi’s voice ringing out as soon as he appeared,
"Damn, those guys were actually quite fun!"
"AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Indeed! Too bad there were only three of them and this bastard had to go off perimeter sweeping." Paku’s voice rumbled like rolling thunder through the region as the furball was still a terrifying kaiju at this moment.
"Indeed. I wonder how long it would’ve taken this underpaid assistant here to take one out if there was another." Malachi grinned, looking at Sulvan.
The man himself didn’t reply, merely studying the faces of his comrades whilst listening to their words.
Three. That’s what they said. Not four.
"It seems it is as Master said. Whatever is sent to oblivion is lost completely." The man thought silently as he recalled the last attack he had used, channeling the essence of Oblivion itself to erase the existence of 1, hereby rewriting the entire history of creation to exclude that being.
"So, what do you think? How long do you believe it’d take you to take one out? For your information, I took mine out in mere moments." Malachi asked smugly.
"I would’ve done it in the most satisfying way to Master." Sulvan, snapped out of his thoughts, replied calmly.
"And in what way, you fanatical fucker, would that be?" Paku, finally down to his tiny size, asked.
"Absolute domination. Utter and overwhelming power. Enough to erase any thoughts of resistance from the mind." Sulvan nodded, satisfied with his answer.
Both Paku and Malachi merely gave the man a dead stare before turning their attention to the elephant in their midst.
"And you—do I even want to know what you did to that guy?" Malachi asked as he turned to Leo, his finger pointing at Harbinger 3, who was currently looking into nothing, a lost and terrified expression on his frozen face.
"Yeah, you freaky chicken-cat, what did you do?" Paku seconded, poking the frozen harbinger in curiosity.
"Nothing much. I just trapped his consciousness in a realm where nothing but his worst nightmares exist. One that’s designed to break him and strip him of all hope, so that the only thing left would be despair, despair enough to make him wish for death. Yet death I would never grant, as even that is a hope I’ll take from him." Leo’s words, casual as they sounded, made a chill travel down the spines of Malachi and Paku as they distanced themselves from the griffon.
"Motherfucker! Why would you do something like that?" Paku asked, shaken.
"Well, I was curious if something that looked like a puppet had any hopes or dreams, and it seems I was right." The griffon shrugged like it was nothing.
"Damn... can’t any of your attacks be normal? Do some explosive moves. Tear space apart. Crumble buildings and mountains. Do anything that doesn’t give someone nightmares when you talk about them." Malachi, battle-hungry as he was, didn’t think it was a good idea to challenge his friend if he had such an attitude, so the monkey was trying to change his heart, but...
"Nah... normal and explosive moves are boring. Breaking things that are already beyond broken seems even more fun." Leo shrugged him off.
Once again, both Malachi and Paku distanced themselves from the psychotic creature as they began reconsidering their friendship choices.
A silence fell between the four men as the mood slowly turned solemn.
"How long do you guys believe it’ll take before he’s back?" Malachi asked out loud. He didn’t need to clarify for everyone to know just who he was talking about.
"I don’t believe it will take that long, since I’m sure you felt it. That amount of killing intent is not something you release to encourage people. It’s something you release when all that’s left in you is death." Leo answered.
"Heh! I wonder what could’ve gotten that bastard so angry."
"I don’t think I want to find out. I’m perfectly okay just waiting for the motherfucker to come out." Paku plopped into a seated position mid-space as the furry creature closed its eyes.
The others, equally uninterested in speaking anymore, decided to follow suit as each of them began resting. In their heads, a countdown had begun.
"How many minutes will it take for Dante to arrive?" The waiting game had begun.
...
...
Rage.
That’s all I felt at this moment.
A heart-tearing, soul-rending anger that threatened to make me go mad.
My arms still trembled faintly whenever I recalled that horrific scene. To think I would be forced to witness such a scene. I would be forced to disappoint my loved ones. Even if only a mirage. Even if only a mental attack. It was still something I couldn’t allow.
My blood boiled. My teeth were already gritted hard enough to crack them if I could.
I wasn’t even ready to pay attention to wherever we had appeared. I had only done what Shaia asked of me subconsciously, as all I needed now was a place I could make this bastard pay properly.
"You will pay for that." The words came out dry, like a scratching noise from my throat.
"I swear on everything that’s mine. You will pay." The moment I was done with my words, my three origins roared out in rage as a pitch-black, lightless aura covered my entire form.
My eyes burned as they focused on the creature before me.
An amalgamation of other beings. It didn’t look like anything relatively normal, no, it looked like something that had taken the idea of a monster from every nightmare it could find, then fused them together into itself.
Its eyes, two swirling pools of yellow that instilled nothing but absolute terror, looked at me with little to no emotion.
"You... how did you bring me here? This is not a realm you should be able to access." The old and ancient voice of the creature reached my ears. Its tone was dismissive, unbothered. The bastard still wasn’t taking me seriously.
"Alright then..." I muttered quietly as a thought occurred to me, and then, a heavy silence fell upon the place, an absence of sound as a gaping, swirling hole appeared within the darkness that had covered my form, a single command echoing through the nothingness around us:
Devour...
The Apostle of Fear’s face finally shifted as it seemed to have felt it. A grip on its very existence. On the very thing that made it what it was.
I wasn’t just trying to kill it, no, I was trying to devour its existence in its entirety.
"Foolish..." the Apostle’s voice reached my ears like the wailing cries of a million damned souls, "you’re too weak to dare think of devouring my existence." Reaching out, I felt a metaphysical grip threatening to take hold of what would’ve passed as my throat if I had a physical form. A saturated feeling of terror threatening to drown me once more in existential dread.
Denial roared to life as a single command rumbled like thunder through my being:
NO!
The dread collapsed, the terror being washed away as Oblivion kicked in. A vacuum forming within my very being, one that pulled at the threads the Apostle had left within me the moment it struck. I could see the yellowish pools of terror that passed for eyes on the Apostle fluctuate as it felt something pile onto the already heavy force of Devouring on its existence—this one threatening to unmake its very existence instead.
The tandem attacks finally forced the creature’s face to harden.
"You... what are you?" For the first time since meeting this being, its voice no longer held any certainty.
Its fear wasn’t working. Its dread was being turned against it. And now its very existence was being attacked by two forces it seemed incapable of understanding.
I didn’t say anything, I was past the point of speaking. All I wanted now was to take everything from this fucker.
"Fine... keep your silence." Like a nightmare brought to life, a grim flash of yellow covered its entire frame as it collapsed inward, the region snapping into shape as a torrent of nightmares was birthed.
"If you will not speak, then let your fear speak for you.." A beat of silence passed, and then—
GUOOOOHHHHHH!!!!!
The nightmares charged.
The fight had just begun, and I was damn sure going to make this bastard pay for what he did to me.
"DEVOUR..."
