Chapter 271: The Underworld Arena II
Andrey and Morgana settled onto the plush sofa across from Luna. The room was quiet except for the faint sounds of the fighting ring filtering through the walls. Luna remained perched on her living seat, her tail swaying lazily as she studied them with sharp, curious eyes.
Luna’s lips curved into a playful smile. "Perhaps Morgana hasn’t properly introduced me yet. So allow me—I am Luna, the ruler of this arena. A pleasure to meet you, Andrey Thompson."
Morgana leaned back, her posture relaxed but her red eyes steady. "As I told you before, the one you see beside me is now my Master."
Luna’s gaze flickered between them, her smile turning more intrigued. "That’s quite a bold declaration, Morgana. I’m still struggling to understand why you would make such a choice."
Morgana met her gaze without hesitation. "Because I don’t approve of the current leadership. They’re reckless, demanding, and they treat our lives as expendable. I refuse to be a pawn in their games any longer."
Luna tilted her head, her voice carrying a note of dry amusement. "Even so, betraying your own kind is a heavy step. It makes you seem ungrateful for everything they’ve given you."
Morgana’s voice remained steady, unflinching. "I’ve made my decision, Luna. I’ve chosen my path. And I don’t want you to become my enemy."
Andrey, who had been listening quietly, spoke up. His gaze shifted between Morgana and Luna, calm and measured. "So you told her everything—to convince her to join us?"
Morgana’s red eyes met his, her voice carrying a note of quiet resolve. "Yes. I want Luna to join us. To fight against Lucifer together."
Luna’s eyes narrowed, her playful demeanor shifting into something colder, more calculating. She leaned forward slightly, her tail curling around the arm of her living seat.
"That’s quite a bold request, Morgana. And an impossible one." Her voice dropped, carrying an edge of steel. "You know what we are. What we’re capable of. We are beings of power—strong enough to conquer this world with enough effort. It takes struggle, blood, and patience to gather the artifacts and pieces of Lord Laplace’s soul. And now, you want me to become a human’s servant?"
Morgana met her gaze without flinching. "Just hear me out first, Luna. Please."
Luna’s tail twitched, but she didn’t interrupt.
Morgana’s voice softened, carrying a note of genuine sincerity. "Andrey is different. He has the strength, the determination, and the will to defeat Lucifer. If we stand with him, we can free those demons who oppose Lucifer’s rule. We don’t have to conquer humans—we can coexist with them. I consider you my sister, Luna. I don’t want us to become enemies."
A long silence followed. Luna’s sharp eyes studied Morgana, then shifted to Andrey, weighing his presence, his posture, his calm, steady gaze. After what felt like an eternity, Luna let out a slow breath, her shoulders relaxing just slightly.
"...Fine. I’ll offer a proposal."
She leaned forward, "You’ve told me about this human, but I don’t know how strong he really is. So we’ll test him in the arena. If this man can win until the end, then I will join you."
She paused, letting her words hang in the air before continuing, her voice dropping to a cold, measured note.
"But if he loses..." Her eyes gleamed with dark amusement. "I will hand him over to Lucifer, and you will return to the demon side, Morgana. No exceptions."
Morgana’s eyes widened, her voice sharp with alarm. "That’s impossible, Luna! The fighters here are vicious and experienced—they’ve been fighting for years in brutal, no-holds-barred matches. Master is used to fighting as a team, not alone in a blood sport arena!"
Luna’s expression remained cold, her tail swaying lazily behind her. "If this human cannot survive a few rounds in my arena, then he has no business standing against Lucifer. You’re asking me to risk everything on a gamble. If he’s not strong enough, then we have no chance of winning anyway. And I refuse to let you be swayed by sweet words and empty promises, Morgana. Better you return to our side before it’s too late."
Then Andrey spoke, "I think it’s a good proposal."
Morgana’s head snapped toward him, her red eyes wide with disbelief. "Master—! You can’t be serious! These fighters are nothing like the monsters we’ve faced in gates! They’re ruthless, they fight dirty, and they don’t hold back—"
"I’m aware," Andrey interrupted, his voice steady. "But you’re underestimating me, Morgana. I’m not that weak."
He turned to Luna, his gaze unwavering. "I accept your terms. I will fight in your arena and prove my strength. And when I win, you will honor your end of the bargain and join us."
A smile spread across Luna’s lips.
"You’ve got nerve, I’ll give you that." She gestured toward the door with a flick of her wrist. "Then let’s not waste any more time. I’ll have my people prepare the arena. Let’s see if your confidence is as solid as your words."
Andrey’s gaze remained steady, his voice calm and unwavering. "Then wait and watch. I’ll make sure to impress you with my strength."
Luna let out a low, amused chuckle, her sharp eyes gleaming with dark anticipation. "Heh. I’ll be waiting for that—if you don’t die first."
She rose gracefully from her living seat, delivering a sharp, dismissive kick to the man beneath her. He scrambled to his feet, his face flushed with exertion, and she waved a hand toward the door without looking at him.
"Prepare the fighter’s waiting room. And clear the schedule—we have a new contender joining the ring tonight."
The man bowed quickly and hurried out, his footsteps fading down the corridor. Luna turned back to Andrey, her tail curling lazily behind her, her voice carrying a teasing edge.
"I hope you’re ready, human. The crowd is always hungry for blood."
Andrey met her gaze evenly. "I’ll give them a show they won’t forget."
Luna’s lips curved into a slow, approving smile. "We’ll see."
