My Magical Girl System

Chapter 259: A-Rank Ascension

The pressure was mounting. Andrey could feel the strain in his muscles, the burn in his lungs, the weight of every strike against his staff. The holographic figures kept coming, relentless and coordinated, their attacks growing sharper, more precise.

Sein’s flames flickered as she drove her fist through another figure, but two more took its place. Sarah’s mana was running low, her attacks growing weaker. Lisa’s barrier was cracked, barely holding.

Andrey’s gaze swept the arena. They were being pushed back, their formation crumbling under the relentless assault.

He made a decision.

"Overdrive!"

Power surged through his body, his muscles burning as his hair shifted from brown to white. The world around him sharpened, every detail snapping into focus—the movements of the figures, the cracks in the barrier, the faint pulse of the simulation’s core.

He moved like a blur, his staff carving through the holographic figures with devastating precision. The figures shattered under his strikes, their formations breaking as he pressed forward.

Sein’s eyes widened. "He’s going all out!"

Sarah’s voice was strained but urgent. "We need to support him! Lisa, reinforce the barrier! I’ll cover the flank!"

Lisa’s hands glowed as she poured the last of her mana into the barrier, the cracks sealing as it flared back to life. Sarah’s pink energy rained down from above, scattering the figures that tried to flank them.

Andrey was relentless. His staff struck down one figure after another, his movements a blur of motion. The figures tried to adapt, but he was too fast, too precise, his attacks overwhelming their coordination.

He pushed through the final cluster, his staff carving a path toward the simulation’s core—a glowing node at the center of the arena.

Sein’s voice cut through the chaos. "Andrey! The core!"

Andrey didn’t hesitate. He channeled the last of his Overdrive into a single, devastating strike, his staff slamming into the core with a thunderous impact.

The holographic figures dissolved into fragments of light, the simulation collapsing around them. The lights flickered back to normal, and the hum of the mana sensors faded into silence.

Andrey stood at the center of the arena, his staff planted on the ground, his breathing heavy. His hair slowly shifted back to its natural brown, the glow of Overdrive fading.

Sein let out a long breath, flames dying down around her fists. "Hah... finally."

Sarah slumped, her shoulders sagging with exhaustion. "I thought that would never end."

Lisa’s barrier dissolved, her voice soft and relieved. "We did it..."

Clestine’s voice echoed from the console, carrying a note of genuine approval. "Phase three complete. You’ve demonstrated exceptional resilience and adaptability under pressure. Your coordination and decision-making were commendable."

She paused, her sharp eyes sweeping over the team. "Andrey Thompson, your use of Overdrive to break through the final wave was decisive. It’s a powerful tool, but you need to be mindful of the cost. Pushing yourself to your limit in a controlled environment is one thing—doing so in a real battle could leave you vulnerable."

Andrey met her gaze, his voice steady despite the exhaustion in his chest. "I understand. I don’t intend to rely on it lightly."

Clestine’s lips curved into a faint, approving smile. "Good. You’ve passed the assessment. Your team is now officially promoted to A-rank."

The announcement hung in the air, a moment of quiet satisfaction settling over the team.

Lisa’s face lit up with a warm smile. "A-rank... we really did it."

Sein let out a low, satisfied laugh. "About time."

Sarah’s voice carried a mix of exhaustion and pride. "This is going to take a while to sink in."

Andrey allowed himself a small, tired smile. "We earned it."

The arena’s lights returned to full brightness as the simulation fully dissolved. Clestine stepped away from the console, her sharp eyes carrying a hint of warmth as she approached the team.

"Congratulations. You’ve earned your A-rank status. Head to the reception desk to complete the paperwork. Your new IDs will be processed shortly."

Her gaze shifted to Sein, and her expression softened, just slightly. "Sein Alphis. I have to admit, I didn’t expect you to make it this far. After everything that happened with Vixion, I thought you’d given up."

Sein’s lips curved into a faint, almost wistful smile. "People change."

Clestine returned the smile, a glint of respect in her eyes. "If you ever want to run a gate together, let me know. I’d be curious to see how you fight when the stakes are real."

Sein’s grin widened. "I’ll hold you to that."

Clestine nodded once, then turned and walked toward the exit, her footsteps echoing off the polished floor.

The team made their way to the reception desk, where the same cheerful receptionist from earlier greeted them. Her fingers moved across the keyboard as she processed their new ranks.

"A-rank heroes," she said, a bright smile spreading across her face. "That’s quite an achievement. I’ve updated your IDs and access levels. You’ll now have priority access to higher-rank gates and resources."

She slid four new ID cards across the counter, each bearing the team’s names and their new A-rank designation.

Andrey picked up his card, studying it for a moment. "Thank you."

The receptionist nodded, her fingers already moving to the next task. "Is there anything else I can help you with?"

Andrey’s gaze flicked to the mission board behind her. "Are there any gates available today that would be suitable for a team of our rank?"

The receptionist turned to her terminal, her fingers moving across the keyboard. "Let me see..." She scrolled through the listings, her brow furrowing slightly. "There’s one that might interest you. It’s a water-type gate located off the eastern coast. The Association has classified it as B-rank, but initial reports suggest it may be more complex than usual. It’s been described as a series of floating islands surrounded by open water. The environment is unstable, and there are reports of unusual mana fluctuations."

She paused, her gaze meeting Andrey’s. "It’s not a standard gate—some of the teams that have attempted it have reported disorienting effects, like the landscape shifting when you’re not looking directly at it. The Association is recommending teams with strong coordination and adaptability."

Sarah let out a low whistle. "A shifting landscape? That sounds like a nightmare."

Sein’s grin was sharp, eager. "Or a challenge."

Lisa’s voice was soft but curious. "What kind of monsters are in there?"

The receptionist shrugged slightly. "Reports vary. Some teams have encountered aquatic creatures—serpentine forms, large predators. Others have reported more humanoid entities, almost like guardians. The gate’s core hasn’t been fully mapped yet."

Andrey considered the information, his gaze thoughtful. "We’ll take it."
