Chapter 243: Three Heart
The ground trembled violently beneath Andrey’s feet. A shockwave of displaced earth and stone erupted from the center of the clearing, and the creature forced its way upward.
It was massive. A nightmare of scales and sinew, its body coiling like a serpent as it rose from the earth. Its hide was thick and armored, dark greenish-black, slick with damp soil and trailing roots. Its head was broad and flat, with a row of jagged, crystalline teeth protruding from its jaws—each one gleaming like a shard of frozen lightning. Three eyes burned along its skull, each a different shade of molten gold, fixed on Andrey with predatory hunger.
A holographic screen flickered to life in front of Andrey.
[Terramaw – Rank B+ Threat]
Andrey didn’t wait for the creature to make the first move. His eyes blazed with cold fury as he activated his skill.
"Overdrive!"
Power surged through his body, his muscles burning as his hair began to shift from brown to white. The glow of raw, unbridled energy surrounded him, and his gaze locked onto the Terramaw.
"Lumy’s still inside you," he said, his voice carrying an edge of cold fury. "I’m getting her back."
The Terramaw let out a low, guttural rumble, its three eyes fixed on Andrey. It lunged, its massive jaws opening wide as it shot forward with terrifying speed.
Andrey met it head-on.
He sidestepped, his movements swift and precise, his daggers materializing in his hands as he closed the distance. He slashed across the Terramaw’s flank, his blades carving through its scales like paper. The creature roared in pain, its body twisting as it tried to crush him against the ground. Dark, viscous ichor sprayed from the wound as Andrey’s daggers found their mark.
Andrey’s eyes stayed fixed on the creature’s abdomen. His Ki senses stretched inward, and he felt the faint, struggling presence of Lumy trapped inside.
"She’s still alive," he said, his voice tight with purpose. "I’m not letting her die in there."
The Terramaw’s tail lashed out, forcing Andrey to leap back. The creature’s three eyes blazed with fury as it opened its maw and unleashed a wave of jagged stone shards. Andrey weaved through the projectiles, his movements a blur as he closed the distance again.
He drove both daggers deep into the creature’s side, and this time, he felt something give way.
The Terramaw let out a guttural roar, its body convulsing as it released a shockwave of earth and stone. Andrey was thrown back, his boots carving trenches in the soil as he struggled to stay upright.
As he rose, the ground around him began to tremble again. The Terramaw’s three eyes flared, and the earth erupted beneath his feet, sending him stumbling backward. Jagged stone pillars shot up from the ground in a wide arc, forcing Andrey to leap and dodge.
He landed in a crouch, his daggers still in hand, his gaze locked onto the creature. His breathing was controlled, his focus absolute, the white glow of Overdrive still burning around him.
A system notification appeared in the corner of his vision.
System: Warning! Magical Girl Lumy Rinne’s vital signs are critically low. Immediate rescue required. Time remaining: 2 minutes.
Andrey’s mind raced. He couldn’t afford to waste a single second. He had to act fast.
"Mana Threads!"
Thin, nearly invisible strands of mana shot from his fingertips, weaving through the air and wrapping around the Terramaw’s limbs. The creature’s movements slowed, its body jerking as it struggled against the bindings. But it was too large, too powerful—the threads wouldn’t hold it for long.
The Terramaw let out a guttural roar, its massive body thrashing against the threads. It lunged forward, its jaws snapping toward Andrey. He barely dodged, but the impact sent him flying, his body crashing against a jagged boulder. The breath was driven from his lungs, a sharp pain flaring in his ribs as Damage Absorb flared, storing the energy.
Andrey pushed himself up, his vision swimming for a moment. His chest was tight, his body already accumulating damage. Overdrive was burning through his reserves, but he had no other choice. He had to end this now.
’Analytical Gaze.’
His eyes shifted, a faint shimmer passing over his vision as his Ki senses focused with surgical precision. The Terramaw’s body became a map of vulnerabilities—its outer scales, the thick armor plates, the joints where movement was most fluid. Andrey’s gaze traced the creature’s frame, scanning for anything that could give him the opening he needed.
He found it.
Three faint, pulsing nodes of energy, each one buried deep within the Terramaw’s body. One in its chest, one in its lower abdomen, and one near the base of its skull. Three hearts, each beating in a staggered rhythm. If he could destroy all three, the creature would fall.
Andrey’s hand tightened on his daggers. ’Lumy’s running out of time. I can feel her mana flickering.’
The Terramaw lunged again, its massive jaws opening wide. Andrey stepped forward, his daggers flashing as he carved a deep gash across the creature’s snout. The beast recoiled, a guttural roar of pain shaking the air.
’Reaction time is slower than I expected.’
Andrey didn’t give it time to recover. He activated Phantom Step, appearing above its head, and drove both daggers into the base of its skull—the first heart.
’One down. The rhythm is broken—it’s not regenerating as fast as before. But I can’t let up. The second heart is lower, tucked behind its ribs. I’ll have to get past its claws.’
The Terramaw convulsed violently, its body thrashing. He felt the first heart shatter under his blades. Two left.
The creature’s tail swept toward him. He leaped, landing on its back, and sprinted along its spine. The second heart pulsed in its lower abdomen. He leaped again, his daggers ready.
A massive, crystalline claw slammed into Andrey from the side, sending him crashing into the ground. The impact sent shockwaves of pain through his body. He coughed, blood spattering across his lips, his vision swimming. Damage Absorb was nearly full. He couldn’t take much more.
’I miscalculated... It’s faster than I thought. I can’t keep taking hits like this.’
His eyes fixed on the creature’s lower abdomen, and he surged forward, his daggers piercing through the scales. He carved a deep path, feeling the second heart shatter beneath his blades.
