My Magical Girl System

Chapter 239: Deep Blue Activated

The root tightened around Andrey’s torso, squeezing the air from his lungs. He felt a sharp, searing pain as a thorned vine pierced his side, drawing blood. The warm, wet stain spread across his shirt, and he gritted his teeth against the agony.

Another vine coiled around his wrist, then his ankle, yanking him off balance. He crashed to the ground, the impact driving the breath from his lungs. The Brute loomed over him, its burning eyes fixed on its prey, its claws raised for the killing blow.

’This is bad... I need to use Overdrive. I have to break free before it’s too late...’

Andrey’s hand trembled as he reached for the skill, his vision blurring from the pain. He could feel the energy building in his chest, ready to be unleashed.

But before he could activate it, a brilliant blue light flared from behind him.

The light was cold and sharp, cutting through the mist like a blade. It wrapped around the Brute’s massive arm, freezing it mid-swing. The creature let out a confused, guttural roar, struggling against the frozen grip.

Andrey turned his head, his vision swimming.

Lumy stood a few meters away, her body enveloped in the same brilliant blue light. Her usual cold, composed expression was gone, replaced by something fierce and determined. Her dark blue Magical Girl dress shimmered around her, the elegant silver accents catching the light as her transformation completed.

She raised her staff, her voice ringing out with a clarity that cut through the chaos.

"Tidal Restraint!"

A surge of water exploded from her staff, wrapping around the Brute’s massive form like chains of liquid ice. The creature roared in fury, struggling against the bonds, but Lumy’s hold was unyielding. The water coiled around its limbs, its torso, its throat, pulling it back from Andrey.

Lumy’s voice was sharp, commanding. "Andrey! Get up!"

Andrey didn’t waste a second. He pushed himself upright, ignoring the pain in his side, and channeled Ki into his hands. The roots and vines that had held him began to loosen, and he tore himself free with a surge of strength.

The Brute let out a thunderous roar, its burning eyes fixed on Lumy. It lunged toward her, claws extended, but Lumy was already moving. She leaped backward, her staff raised, water swirling around her like a living shield.

"Stay back, Andrey!" she shouted. "I’ll hold it off!"

Andrey’s gaze hardened. He was already moving, his staff extended. "I’m not letting you fight alone."

Lumy’s lips curved into a faint, determined smile. "Then keep up!"

She thrust her staff forward, and the water chains around the Ursawood Brute tightened with a sharp, grinding sound. The creature roared in fury, its massive body thrashing against the bonds, but Lumy’s hold was unyielding. The water coiled around its limbs, its torso, its throat, pulling it back from Andrey with relentless pressure.

Andrey didn’t waste a second. He surged forward, Ki flowing into his staff as he leaped onto the Brute’s massive arm. The creature swung wildly, trying to dislodge him, but Andrey held on, driving his staff into the cracks in its bark armor. Each strike sent shockwaves through the creature’s body, forcing it to stumble.

Lumy kept the pressure on, her staff glowing as she maintained the water chains. "It’s weakening! Finish it, Andrey!"

Andrey’s gaze hardened. He planted his feet on the Brute’s chest and channeled every ounce of Ki into his staff. The weapon glowed with blinding blue-white light as he raised it high.

"Now!"

He drove the staff downward, piercing through the Brute’s core. The creature let out a deafening roar, its body convulsing as the light erupted from within. The bark armor cracked, splintered, and the Brute collapsed, its massive form crashing to the ground with a thunderous impact.

Silence fell over the clearing. The mist began to clear, and the forest around them seemed to exhale, the tension lifting.

Andrey stood over the Brute’s remains, breathing heavily, his staff still glowing faintly. He turned to look at Lumy, her elegant blue dress shimmering in the fading light.

"Thank you," he said, his voice steady despite the exhaustion in his chest. "You saved my life back there."

Lumy’s expression was still guarded, but her shoulders relaxed slightly. "It was necessary. I’m the one who asked for your help. If you died because of my request, I would never forgive myself."

Andrey’s lips twitched, a hint of amusement flickering in his eyes. "I appreciate the concern." He studied her for a moment, noting the faint glow still clinging to her form. "Are you all right? Using your Magical Girl powers... it doesn’t come without a cost."

Lumy looked down at her hands, then back at him. "I’m fine. I only used basic skills. It’s nothing compared to—" She paused, her cheeks flushing slightly. "If I hadn’t transformed, you would have died. There was no other choice."

Andrey’s gaze softened. "Thank you, Lumy."

Lumy looked away, her voice dropping to a quiet murmur. "Just... don’t expect me to make a habit of it."

Andrey let out a low chuckle. "I won’t."

Lumy hesitated, her fingers tightening on her staff. She took a breath, then met his eyes again. Her voice was softer now, almost reluctant.

"About the reward... please don’t be too rough later."

Andrey blinked, caught off guard by her words. He studied her for a moment, noting the faint tension in her shoulders. Then he nodded slowly.

"I’ll be gentle. I promise."

Lumy held his gaze for a moment, then looked away. She deactivated her transformation, her dress fading back into her usual clothes. Her voice was flat, but there was a hint of warmth beneath it.

"Good. Let’s find the herb and get out of here."

The forest swallowed them as they advanced. Mist and moss, gnarled roots and twisted trunks—every step took them deeper into the forest.

Andrey glanced at Lumy, who was walking slightly ahead of him, her posture still rigid, her hand resting near her holster. The silence between them was comfortable, but Andrey could sense the weight of unspoken thoughts pressing on her shoulders.

"Lumy," he said, his voice calm and even. "Can I ask you something?"

Lumy glanced back at him, her expression guarded but not hostile. "What is it?"
