Andrey sat on the sofa in Lumy’s apartment, still neat in his white shirt and black jacket, his glasses perfectly in place despite the weariness behind his eyes. Across from him, Lumy sat with her back straight, fingers tightly interlaced in her lap. Her expression usually cold and composed now showed cracks of worry she could barely hide.

"Thank you for coming, Andrey," Lumy said, her voice cold but carrying a faint tremor. "I know you’re busy with your team."

Andrey nodded slowly. "I received your message. So, what’s going on? What can I help with?"

Lumy took a long breath, then met Andrey’s gaze with sharp but burdened eyes. "It’s about Felix."

Andrey frowned. "Felix? Didn’t he recover from his injuries after we rescued him from the gate?"

"His physical wounds have healed," Lumy replied, her voice dropping. "But there’s something else. After he came out of that gate... Felix started showing strange symptoms. His body became unstable. Sometimes he’d have seizures, sometimes he’d lose consciousness for a few seconds. And when we had him checked at the hospital..." She paused, swallowing hard. "The doctors diagnosed him with mana contamination disease."

Andrey fell silent for a moment, then his eyes narrowed. "Mana contamination disease? That’s... isn’t that a disease that was supposedly eradicated? I remember reading old reports—it was supposed to have been wiped out after the first great gate war."

Lumy nodded with a bitter expression. "I know. But the diagnosis is clear. Felix was cursed by residual contaminated mana left in his body. I should have saved him sooner... If I hadn’t wasted time, Felix wouldn’t have been afflicted with this curse."

Her voice wavered at the end, and Andrey noticed how her hands gripped the hem of her skirt tightly. He wanted to reach out and place a comforting hand on her shoulder, a small gesture he often used to ease tension but the moment his hand extended, Lumy pulled back.

"Don’t touch me," she said quickly, her voice sharp but not angry. "I’m fine."

Andrey withdrew his hand, his expression remaining calm despite a flicker of disappointment in his eyes. "Sorry. I didn’t mean to make you uncomfortable."

Lumy shook her head, looking down. "No... I’m sorry. I just... this is all too much."

She took a breath, then lifted her head again. "But there’s one thing. According to the doctors, this disease may have a cure. They detected traces of energy similar to what’s inside Felix’s body, and they believe there’s some kind of antidote. But to obtain it..." She met Andrey’s eyes with a pleading gaze. "I need your help, Andrey. I can’t do this alone."

Andrey looked at Lumy with serious eyes. "Tell me what needs to be done. If there’s a way to save Felix, I’ll help you."

Lumy nodded, and for the first time since Andrey arrived, there was a glimmer of relief in her eyes.

"Thank you, Andrey."

Andrey leaned back slightly, his expression thoughtful. "That’s not a problem. But are you sure the information is accurate? From what I know, this disease has a very low chance of being cured."

Lumy met his gaze, her voice firm despite the uncertainty in her eyes. "Nothing is impossible. Even if the chance is small, I will try everything I can to cure him."

Andrey studied her for a moment, then nodded. "Alright. I’ll help as much as I can."

Lumy’s shoulders relaxed slightly. She reached into her pocket and pulled out a small, worn piece of paper with handwritten notes. "We need to find a rare herb called Moonpetal Bloom. It’s said to grow only in a B-rank gate currently under the jurisdiction of the Lumina Guild. Because I don’t have a proper hero license yet, I can’t enter without an officially registered hero accompanying me."

Andrey adjusted his glasses. "That’s actually convenient. We can enter through Lumina Guild with Hope’s help. Speaking of which—why didn’t you ask Hope directly?"

Lumy’s expression faltered for a brief moment. "Hope is... busy. She has her own responsibilities, and I didn’t want to burden her with this."

Andrey studied her for a moment, then gave a small nod. "I see. Don’t worry—we’ll get that herb and cure Felix." He stood up, smoothing his jacket. "Let’s go."

Lumy rose as well, a flicker of gratitude crossing her usually stoic face. "Thank you, Andrey. Truly."

Andrey simply nodded, already heading toward the door. "Save your thanks for after we’ve saved him."

The door clicked shut behind them as they stepped out of Lumy’s apartment building. The morning air was cool and crisp, carrying the faint sounds of the city stirring to life. Andrey walked briskly toward the black van parked at the curb, his keys already in hand. Lumy followed close behind, her posture rigid with determination, the worn paper with the herb’s details clutched in her fingers.

They climbed into the van, Andrey sliding into the driver’s seat while Lumy took the passenger side. The engine hummed to life, and Andrey pulled smoothly into the street.

"Which way?" he asked.

Lumy glanced at the paper, then pointed ahead. "Head toward the eastern industrial district. The gate is located near the old Lumina Guild outpost there. I’ll guide you once we’re closer."

Andrey nodded, keeping his eyes on the road. The drive was quiet, the only sounds the hum of the engine and the occasional direction from Lumy. After about thirty minutes, the buildings grew sparser, replaced by wide, open lots and the rusting skeletons of old factories.

"There," Lumy said, pointing ahead. "Just past that checkpoint."

Andrey slowed the van as they approached a cordoned-off area. Several Association officers stood near a barrier, their uniforms crisp, their expressions professional. One of them stepped forward as the van came to a stop, raising a hand.

Andrey lowered the window and reached for his ID, handing it to the officer. "Andrey Thompson. B-rank hero. I have authorization to enter the gate."

The officer scanned the ID, then glanced at Lumy. His eyes narrowed slightly. "And your companion?"

"She’s with me," Andrey said smoothly. "Part of my team. We have prior clearance."

The officer studied them for a moment, then nodded, handing the ID back. "Right. I remember the notice. You’re cleared to proceed. The gate is about two hundred meters ahead—just past the second barrier. Be careful in there."

"Thank you," Andrey said, rolling the window back up.

He drove slowly past the checkpoint, the van easing through the second barrier and coming to a stop near the edge of a wide, open lot. Ahead of them, the gate shimmered—a swirling vortex of deep violet and pale blue, its edges crackling with faint energy. It was larger than the typical C-rank gates, its presence more imposing.

Andrey killed the engine and stepped out, Lumy following close behind. The air around the gate felt heavier, charged with ambient mana. A few Association staff members were stationed nearby, monitoring equipment and recording data.

Andrey adjusted his glasses, studying the gate. "This is it. Ready?"

Lumy’s jaw tightened, but she nodded. "Ready."

Together, they walked toward the shimmering portal. The light swallowed them as they stepped through, the world twisting around them before solidifying into a new landscape.

The interior of the gate was a stark contrast to the industrial outskirts they had left behind. They stood in a dense, misty forest, the trees tall and ancient, their branches intertwined with pale, glowing moss. The air was cool and damp, carrying the scent of earth and something faintly floral.

Lumy looked around, her eyes scanning the mist-shrouded trees. "The Moonpetal Bloom should grow near sources of concentrated mana. We need to head deeper in."

Andrey drew his staff, his Ki senses extending outward. "Stay close. And stay alert. We don’t know what’s lurking in here."

They moved forward, their footsteps muffled by the soft, moss-covered ground, the mist swirling around them as they ventured deeper into the gate.
