Chapter 87: The World Fixes Itself [3]: An Unknown Creature
A cloud of dust was kicked up as the thing landed in front of the Prince and the Saintess.
But even that couldn’t hide the sheer amount of corrupted aura around it.
Slowly, the dust cloud dispersed, revealing exactly what they were about to go against, and both their eyes widened.
"What the hell is that?" Lucian muttered again as he glanced at the creature before them.
It stood upright, revealing a humanoid form, with skin dark as the void itself and seemingly armored.
On its face was only a mouth with multiple rows of sharp teeth, there were no eyes present.
Instead it had a massive set of horns on its head between which was a single glowing violet eye, looking directly at the two.
It had multiple other eyes on its chest, torso, wrists and even legs, constantly moving around.
Behind it were multiple black tendrils wiggling in the air.
It was a monster unlike anything they had seen
The creature continued looking at them for a while and then the next second,
BOOM!
Before Lucian could react, the creature was already in front of him, its claws extended to grab his face.
But just before it reached him, a blast of wind slammed into it, sending it in the opposite direction.
"A-are you okay?" Noelle nervously asked as she looked at the prince.
"I’m fine," Lucian assured, letting out a sigh of relief, "thanks for the save."
He then turned to the creature again, noting that it had already recovered and was curiously (?) looking at its own clawed hand.
"It’s fast," Lucian muttered recalling that he wasn’t even given time to react.
If it wasn’t for Noelle’s timely interference, he would’ve very clearly lost his head. Shaking the thought out of his head and gripped the sword tighter.
His golden aura rose higher and he immediately made a move whilst the creature remained distracted by its own hand.
Faster than any eye could track, Lucian launched himself forward, engulfed by a golden aura.
A massive crater was left in his wake.
Lucian’s sword started glowing as he was soon within striking range, the creature still seemed distracted, almost unaware of the incoming attack.
But just before the Prince’s sword could reach it, one of its countless eyes suddenly locked on to him.
Lucian’s instincts immediately screamed danger, forcing him to maneuver to the side, his sword only barely grazing the creature, completely missing the spot he was aiming for,
The glowing crystal at the center of its chest.
He immediately put up his sword, just in time to block an invisible force that slammed into it, launching him into one of the buildings, causing it to completely collapse on him.
"Lucian!" Noelle called out in worry, but she wasn’t allowed enough time to worry, as this time, the creature was upon her.
BOOM!
The creature’s claw slammed into her, sending her flying in the opposite direction. Fortunately, she had reacted fast enough and shielded herself in a wind bubble.
Also,
The creature curiously looked at the hand it used to strike her, noticing that it was completely encased in ice and a moment later, it completely shattered.
Just before its attack could reach her, Noelle had managed to use two spirits simultaneously, a wind spirit to protect herself, and an ice spirit to counter.
The creature didn’t seem the least bit affected by its missing arm, if anything, it seemed fascinated by the fact that its body part could come off.
That’s because it was.
As a new born, it was easily fascinated by any and everything, so its reaction was a normal one.
The violet glow on its body got brighter and it started actively pulling spirits towards it, and much to Noelle’s horror,
It absorbed them.
The moment it did, the arm that she had frozen off was completely replaced, good as new.
It then turned towards Noelle and... grinned?
Without wasting any time, the creature launched itself towards her again and in response, she retaliated with blasts of wind.
But the creature reacted to the attack the same way one would react to a gentle breeze.
It passed through the blasts of wind without being affected by them in the least bit, and it was soon upon her again.
Noelle put up a wind barrier between them again, but unlike previously, the creature’s arm completely passed through the barrier.
But just before its claws could reach her,
"Stay away from her!"
BOOM!
A beam of light suddenly slammed into it, blasting it away from Noelle and into one of the buildings by the side.
Its attacker was Lucian who had finally dug himself out the rubble from the building that fell on him.
His head was bleeding and his white blazer had been long discarded, but he was mostly fine.
Mostly...
"I’m your opponent," Lucian added as he fully got out of the rubble.
Noelle’s eyes widened when she noticed the state he was in, but she said nothing after all, she didn’t have time to worry right now.
Besides, Lucian’s light mana had healing properties, which meant that he would be fine in a few minutes.
BOOM!
Their attention was pulled towards the direction that the creature was launched and they noticed that the building it had crashed into was now completely destroyed.
Floating above them, the creature looked at Lucian with with seemed to be anger in its single eye.
It’s left side was split open, and from the cut dripped black blood, one that let out a sizzling sound as it touched the ground.
As it had done before, the creature absorbed the mana and spirits around it, using them as fuel to heal itself.
The wound on its left side stitched itself together and fully disappeared.
The creature continued looking at Lucian with anger, after all, it had just felt something from his attack that it had only ever felt once before, from its father.
Fear
The creature was a being of corruption and the attack just now made it realize what its natural counter was,
Light mana.
The attack corruded its being, forcing it to use most of its gathered mana to defend against it.
Slowly, it lifted its clawed hand and pointed a finer at Lucian, doing something none of the two expected,
"You must die."
