At the last attempt for peace, Ophelia Valthorn is sacrificed by her ruthless stepfather, Joel Valthorn, to marry the feared Lord Dante Hastings. Ophelia is torn away from her sick brother, whom she loves dearly, and taken across enemy lands, where her every move is scrutinised, and every glance filled with hatred.
    Dante and Ophelia are guarded against each other until the rise of assassinations and whispers of betrayal within each family forces them to lean on each other.
    As Ophelia adapts to her new life, she discovers a curse which torments her husband. It is a curse which threatens not only the truce but Ophelia’s life.
    Will Ophelia flee before war breaks out again, or help Dante break free of the curse?
