Nick invited Kael primarily because he wanted him to be responsible for tracking and locking onto the specific locations of Loki and the others.
In fields such as artificial intelligence and information processing, this man was truly an expert among experts.
The Helicarrier was indeed equipped with facial tracking and recognition systems, but given the level of freedom in America, the public surveillance network couldn't be called perfect; it certainly had significant loopholes.
With Hawkeye's abilities and his knowledge and understanding of S.H.I.E.L.D., it was actually quite easy for him to lead Loki's group in evading surveillance and tracking.
That was why Nick had Natasha invite Kael over. He was well aware of how deep this man's layout in the fields of networking and information was—it had already reached outer space.
When Nick first heard this intel, it wasn't that he hadn't planned to step in and stop it; he had also tried to curb Kael's ever-expanding influence.
But in a situation where capital and politics were united, even he, a shadowy spymaster, could only back down and comply.
However, what Nick hadn't expected was that he would so quickly have to turn around and borrow Kael's information network channels.
Nick currently knew too little about Asgard and didn't know what kind of means a god might possess, so he intended to expand the scope of the search globally.
Besides global satellites, the smartphones that everyone now carries were also excellent information collection devices.
This, of course, would not be possible without Kael's support and permission.
S.H.I.E.L.D. had the ability to breach the network protections of other phone companies and computers, but they couldn't break through the firewall personally designed by Kael. Moreover, Stark Group's smart devices were currently all over the world.
"You're here,"
Nick said in a low voice, standing in the command center and watching Kael as he pushed the door open and entered.
"Didn't you invite me?"
Kael rolled his eyes at Nick. Even at a time like this, he was still putting on the airs of a Director. He had caused trouble and come to ask for help, yet he didn't even know how to maintain a proper attitude.
Just as Nick was about to say something more, he saw Kael squeezing past him.
"Move aside. How is anyone supposed to get work done with you standing here?"
Kael waved his hand with a hint of disdain, the gesture like shooing away a fly.
He was neither Steve nor Dr. Banner, so he naturally didn't need to care about Nick's mood. On the contrary, since the other party was asking him for help cleaning up their mess, they should be the ones caring about his mood.
Nick's mouth twitched, but in the end, he still took a step back.
"This is a nice spot."
Kael stood in Nick's original spot, a comfortable expression on his face.
Beside him, Steve and Dr. Banner looked at Nick's dark face, their smiles widening as their moods brightened considerably.
"My dear Natasha, could you help me get a chair? And bring a bottle of chilled Coke. I need to wake my brain up right now."
Kael spoke to Natasha, his tone as natural as if she were still his secretary.
"Sorry, we don't have Coke here. Would you like coffee?"
Natasha glanced at Nick, pursed her lips with a smile, pulled a chair over from the side, and pushed it behind Kael.
"Who's in charge of logistics? Do they still want their bonus this month?"
Kael's voice grew louder, drawing Hill's attention.
What happened? Why is my bonus about to leave me?
"Mr. Wayne! This is not your private company; this is a S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier!"
Nick couldn't help but remind him.
"Sorry, sorry. As soon as I sit down, I instinctively enter work mode. By the way, we're old acquaintances; calling me 'Mr.' is way too formal."
Kael gave a little push with his toe, and the chair spun half a turn. Without waiting for Nick to reply, he spun back and tapped the microphone.
"Everyone, who is in charge of network security management here?"
A staff member slowly raised their hand.
"Open the protection ports and prepare to integrate my AI."
To accurately drop deliveries onto customers' heads, Kael had written a precise facial recognition algorithm, which was far more advanced than S.H.I.E.L.D.'s own.
Nick said nothing but gave the staff member a look, and the person sat down to cooperate.
In addition to Kael's facial recognition method, Nick had prepared a backup plan to determine Loki's location.
That was Dr. Banner.
Once the tesseract was successfully activated, it would release gamma rays. By relying on this residual information, they could calibrate the search using a large number of spectrometers.
However, it would take some time.
Since he was at their mercy, Dr. Banner's work attitude was quite proactive. He didn't believe Nick's nonsense about letting him leave; an adult needs to know how to demonstrate their value.
Seeing that Kael had taken full control of the network search, Nick took Dr. Banner to the workspace prepared for him.
Kael leaned back in his chair, drinking the Americano Natasha had brewed for him. On the screen, four seasons treasure's avatar was swimming through a sea of data, looking very diligent.
Ever since gaining intelligence, four seasons treasure's theatrical personality had gradually begun to show.
But this was actually due to the code Kael had originally written.
"By the way, what are we having for dinner? I feel like having authentic Old Beijing Roast Duck today."
Kael said to Natasha.
Natasha didn't want to talk. She stood with her hands on her hips, looking straight ahead as if she hadn't heard him.
"Master, I found it."
four seasons treasure emerged from the ocean of information, holding up a data image. Kael reached out to open it, and it indeed showed Loki's figure.
Natasha's eyes narrowed, and she immediately reported the situation to Nick.
"Can I eat roast duck now?"
Kael looked up and asked again.
"...Notify the kitchen to prepare an authentic Beijing Roast Duck."
Natasha hesitated for a moment before giving the order. On the other end of the radio, the head chef couldn't help but scratch his head upon receiving it.
Fortunately, there was a Chinese chef in the kitchen.
"Remember to add extra sweet bean sauce."
Kael added.
Sigh, being on someone else's turf is so restrictive.
If this were his own home, there's nothing he couldn't eat.
Loki's appearance was intentional; anyone could see that.
But regardless of the schemes involved, the man still had to be caught.
After receiving the specific address, Nick immediately dispatched Steve to lead the team, while also sending the message to Tony to ensure everything went smoothly.
Having been idle for so long, Steve suddenly felt energized; it was finally his turn to take the stage.
He hurried to change into the latest combat suit.
"Captain America's uniform seduction! I need to take some good photos for my collection."
Kael pulled out his phone and snapped a series of photos of Steve's rear. It was indeed the perfect America's Ass.
"Kael, isn't your camera angle a bit off?"
Steve felt a bit of a chill in his lower half, but his good-natured personality prevented him from stopping Kael's behavior.
"Is it off?"
Kael showed the photo to Coulson. The latter instinctively swallowed, opened his mouth, and squeezed out a smile.
"It's pretty impressive."
...Just as Loki was exposed to the public eye, Hawkeye also went into action on the other side.
He needed to obtain iridium to create antiprotons; this stuff was very rare and found in meteorites.
Everything went as they had originally planned: Loki exposed his location and obtained the required retinal scan information for Hawkeye. After taking a beating, he was escorted onto a quinjet by Tony and Steve.
But just as Hawkeye got the meteorite and was about to evacuate, a familiar figure blocked his path.
Several subordinates who had been acting with him had already collapsed silently on the ground.
"We meet again, archer."
Emil grinned and smiled.
"..."
The moment Hawkeye saw him, he realized that after being hit last time, something must have been done to him.
He had clearly gone through several rounds of S.H.I.E.L.D. inspections, so how had it not been discovered?
But now was not the time to think about that.
Hawkeye realized his mission had failed, but his training as an agent led him to make the most correct decision.
He had to notify the doctor and his group to evacuate their hiding spot, only to find that the signal in this area had been jammed.
"Are you going to surrender with your hands up, or do I have to do it?"
Emil said as he cracked his neck, making it clear he wasn't actually giving Hawkeye a choice.
The previous sneak attack didn't count; this time, he was going to give the other guy a proper thrashing.
Hawkeye didn't speak. He gripped his compound bow tightly and fired two arrows in quick succession.
However, all his movements were analyzed in advance by Emil's cybernetic eye scan and brain-computer interface. Coupled with the speed-boosting effect of the Sandevistan neural system, the two arrows he fired seemed to pass right through his body.
Seeing this, Hawkeye's pupils contracted slightly.
The speed Emil was showing now far exceeded the data S.H.I.E.L.D. had previously collected and analyzed.
Was the iteration speed of Kael's cybernetic implants really this fast?
There was no time to marvel at it. Emil was already closing in on Hawkeye. Even with the latter's dynamic vision, he could only barely catch Emil's movements.
Relying on years of combat experience and superb shooting skills, Hawkeye still managed to find opportunities to fire a few arrows.
However, the result of his all-out effort was merely leaving a shallow scratch on Emil's face.
What followed was close-quarters combat, and it was completely one-sided.
In just two rounds, Hawkeye's arm was broken by Emil, and he was pinned firmly to the ground.
"Don't move. The Boss told me to give you some physical therapy."
As soon as he finished speaking, Emil threw a punch that landed squarely on Hawkeye's forehead, making his eyes roll back.
But it wasn't over yet. Emil followed up with several more punches.
"Stop, stop, stop... I'm cured!"
Hawkeye drifted in and out of consciousness. His face was so swollen that even his own mother probably wouldn't recognize him. He shouted incoherently.
"Are you sure?"
"Very sure!"
Hawkeye's gaze was incredibly clear.
Emil ignored him, pinned him down, and waited for four seasons treasure's analysis results before letting go a few seconds later.
Hawkeye grabbed his elbow and applied a little force to snap the dislocated bone back into place. Ignoring the injuries on his face, he spoke seriously.
"I know the location of the tesseract. Let me report the intel to S.H.I.E.L.D.; this concerns an alien war!"
"The Boss didn't give me that order."
Emil curled his lip, pulled a handgun from behind his back, and pulled the trigger at Hawkeye's chest.
"Shit!"
Hawkeye looked down at the tranquilizer dart stuck in his chest. A familiar drowsiness washed over him. He only had time to curse before his body involuntarily slumped to the ground.
"Take him back to the company."
Emil said to those beside him.
Two cyber-soldiers stepped out and hoisted Hawkeye up.
Meanwhile, on the other side, another team of security personnel under Kael also found the location where Dr. Erik Selvig was hiding and secured the tesseract... inside S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Helicarrier.
Kael was eating the roast duck Hill had rolled for him, staring at the computer screen and focusing on testing a new game that was about to be launched.
Natasha was out working and flying a plane. In S.H.I.E.L.D., she was the only one who met Kael's standards for beauty.
At his level of wealth, money couldn't just be left in the bank to depreciate due to inflation; the best way was to invest.
The gaming industry was one of Kael's key investment projects.
For no other reason than to entertain himself.
Seeing this, Nick, standing behind him, could only turn his head and pretend he hadn't seen anything.
After all, the man's work was finished, and it was free labor. He didn't even ask for payment, so what was wrong with feeding him and letting him play games?
Moreover, Nick really liked the facial recognition algorithm Kael had written. Compared to him, it felt like S.H.I.E.L.D.'s information experts needed to go back to the womb and be remade.
"I'm out there fighting alien princes, and here you are eating roast duck. Beautiful lady, could you please give me one to try as well?"
Tony walked over slowly, opened his helmet's faceplate, and revealed an annoyed face.
"Look who's back, my dear nephew."
Kael enthusiastically stepped forward for a hug, wiping the grease from his hands onto the Mark armor.
"What nonsense are you talking?"
Tony frowned. How had he been forcibly demoted in seniority after not seeing him for a day?
"You met your Uncle Steve, right? How are you two getting along?"
Kael looked at Steve behind Tony and raised a hand to him; Steve responded in kind.
"You're his uncle?"
Thor, the God of Thunder, turned to look at Steve and then at Tony. Clearly, the latter looked older, which was inexplicably funny. Forgive him; his sense of humor was a bit low.
Steve didn't know how to answer. Was he supposed to say he had been frozen for preservation? He could only give a simple reply.
"I was indeed a friend of Howard's."
"I don't acknowledge that relationship."
Tony immediately added. He didn't want to acknowledge this uncle at all. Look at that pretty face; he didn't look like an uncle at all.
The last person who acted as his uncle wanted him dead.
"The kid's going through his rebellious phase. Please bear with him, everyone."
Kael spoke in the tone of an elder, making Tony so angry he raised his fist.
"Enough. Now is not the time for you to discuss family dynamics."
Nick returned and interrupted. He had just taken Loki into custody and hadn't even had time to breathe a sigh of relief before hearing Kael stirring up trouble in their already unstable team relations. His face turned even darker.
