Chapter 669 : Spending Valentine’s Day with My Daughter
Bai Yiyue sat contentedly in her chair, murmuring, "As expected, Ling Ning’s cooking is the absolute best~"
"Hmph, so good that you ate two whole bowls of rice, huh?" Ling Ning remarked with a deadpan expression.
Hearing this, Bai Yiyue let out an awkward laugh. "I couldn’t help it! Your cooking is just too delicious, Ling Ning. Eating a bit more isn’t a big deal, right~"
"Hmph. Eating is fine, but you’re just sitting there afterward. Don’t you know you could help me wash the dishes?"
"Uh..."
Before Bai Yiyue could respond, Xia You interjected, "I’ll handle the dishes. Ling Ning, you should rest."
"As expected of Xia You, always so considerate. But no need. Don’t you have a new commentary video to prepare tonight? You should go focus on that. There aren’t too many dishes, so I can manage~" Ling Ning replied with a smile.
Hearing this, Bai Yiyue immediately stood up. "Alright, alright. I’ll take care of it today!"
"It’s fine. You probably wouldn’t wash them properly anyway. Besides, you just got off a plane, so take a seat and relax. It doesn’t feel right to have a guest do chores."
"Is Ling Ning concerned about me? Don’t worry. I rested plenty on the way here. At least let me do something to help."
In the end, Ling Ning gave in to Bai Yiyue’s persistence. Ling Ye, who had initially wanted to help, was promptly turned down. Two people were already enough; adding a third would just be cumbersome.
Ling Ning was surprised to find that Bai Yiyue wasn’t as spoiled as she had expected. She handled the dishwashing efficiently and neatly. Then again, it made sense—Bai Yiyue had spent years in an orphanage as a child, so small chores like this wouldn’t be unfamiliar to her.
While they worked, Ling Ning casually asked, "So, what was it you wanted to talk about before dinner?"
"Oh, that. It’s nothing major. Remember the time we were photographed kissing? Even though some time has passed, the company decided I should stay out of the public eye for a while. So, I’ll have a lot of free time on my hands."
"Huh? Really?"
"Yeah. Honestly, I’ve been wanting a break for a while but never found the chance. Now I have one. So, I’ll probably drop by often to hang out with you, Ling Ning. Being alone at home is just too boring!" Bai Yiyue said with a sly smile.
"Fine, considering I was partly at fault for that incident, I’ll allow it~"
As if something had just occurred to her, Bai Yiyue suddenly asked, "Ling Ning, can I ask you a question?"
"What is it? Go ahead."
"I noticed Xia You had your house key earlier..."
Though Bai Yiyue didn’t finish her sentence, Ling Ning knew exactly what she was getting at. Chuckling softly, she explained, "I was swamped with work recently and couldn’t take care of Ye Ye. So, I asked Xia You to help out. That’s all~"
"Really?" Bai Yiyue blinked, then said earnestly, "I could’ve helped with that too!"
"You just want a copy of my house key, don’t you?"
Caught red-handed, Bai Yiyue could only laugh nervously but maintained her serious gaze at Ling Ning.
"Don’t even think about it. Who knows what a pervert like you would do to my underwear if I gave you my key?" Ling Ning said as she placed the clean dishes into the sterilizer.
"I wouldn’t! Do I even look like that kind of person?"
"You don’t look like it; you are it."
Ling Ning’s retort left Bai Yiyue speechless. She regretted being so transparent about her quirks in front of Ling Ning, as it seemed to have permanently lowered her credibility.
After tidying up the kitchen, Ling Ning and Bai Yiyue returned to the living room. Ling Ning glanced at her guest curiously. "By the way, where’s your manager?"
"Sister Zi? Oh, she just got back and went straight to her girlfriend. Must be nice... Valentine’s Day is coming up, and I have no one to spend it with," Bai Yiyue said, casting Ling Ning a hopeful look.
"Why are you looking at my Mom? She’s spending Valentine’s Day with me!"
Hearing this, Bai Yiyue blinked and turned to Ling Ning for confirmation.
Ling Ning nodded. "That’s right. I have school that day, but Ye Ye already booked me to go shopping with her afterward. Honestly, Valentine’s Day doesn’t mean much to me."
Bai Yiyue’s face fell. Spending Valentine’s Day shopping with her daughter? That sounded... odd.
Ling Ning herself found it strange, but to prevent her daughter from being asked out by questionable classmates, she had preemptively claimed her. Still, something about her decision felt off.
Bai Yiyue, however, wasn’t ready to give up. She had overheard that Ling Ning would be at school during the day. Perhaps she could visit her there... even if it risked her Mom finding out.

"I already stopped by to check in with my mom before coming here. Besides, it’s late now. Surely, you wouldn’t let a poor, defenseless girl like me walk home alone at night?"
"This city is liveliest at this hour, you know."
"I don’t care! I’m staying here tonight!"
Bai Yiyue’s declaration made Ling Ye frown. She glared at Bai Yiyue, her instincts telling her that this woman was once again trying to make a move on her Mom.
"Fine. Suit yourself. I’ll just sleep with Ye Ye."
"Wait, don’t be like that! Shouldn’t we stay up late talking since I’m back? A little candlelit heart-to-heart?"
"Sorry, I have school tomorrow. You can have that talk with yourself."
"Ugh."
